I left the religion in my late 30’s, and even I feel totally ripped off. So I totally understand, even more so, how you feel.
My grandfather was baptised in the late 1940’s and was promised paradise. He is now dead and so are some of his kids, I look back on the 73 years he spent on the hamster wheel, and am grateful I didn’t make the same mistake.
In the time he’s been dead I hardly recognise the religion s anymore. I remember his fleshly brother, who is my great uncle, and a self righteous elder. Telling me to take some posters down I had hanging in my room of bands I liked as a young kid. He too is now dead. I recently went around to visit his widowed wife. Low and behold she had a poster hanging on her fridge of pictures of the governing body. All I gotta say it’s just a total load of shit.

I can’t give direct quotes. But I remember when it was a hot topic for me, giving the explanation of multiple nails been used. This lead me to the “my book of bible stories,” which clearly shows only one nail in his hands. Also the wt explanation for the sign above his head, and not above his hands. In sense of the general area been above his head when in fact the sign was above his hands.
Considering the beating he had previously received there is just no way that Jesus could have carried a pole like that on his back. The stake theory is the imagination of a floundering, narcissistic, alcoholic Joe Rud.

I was reading a comparative study on mental health, vs accessibility to guns. The U.S was compared to other westernised countries. That although had similar rates rates of mental health had tighter gun laws. I’ll let you guess what the studies out come was.
I live in a country that has very tight gun laws. I personally don’t own, or know of any one that owns, a gun. I really could not see a reason why a person would want to carry a gun on their person, in this country, unless they were up to no good. Currently the police don’t carry guns in their person, although they have them in their cars. I’m just glad I don’t live in the USA.

I thought I’d shear this with you good people. The cognitive dissonance is just breath taking. I over heard this comment at a relatives family dinner the other night. Here it was declared to me that “there is no bible president that forbids the growing of beards,,” and that “Jehovah’s organisation has never stopped anyone from growing a beard.”
There you go folks. I really wanted to say something, but knew that doing so would just confirm to them I was an angry bitter apostate, who had an axe to grind. I just sat there, kept my mouth shut, and smiled.

Disillusioned JW
Wt maintains that the plural form that was used for “hands, nails,”implies that multiple nails were needed in order to support his body weight. The one thing that made me dismiss this reasoning was when I looked in the the “ my book of bible stories” ( yellow covered one). There you will see only one nail in his hands, on the stake. I concluded that if this stake theory was to be believed then the artist who designed this picture certainly missed the point.
Tbh I found it hard to explain all these miss translation theories Wt has e,g parousia , starous etc. Why would an almighty God use such loose language for such an important event, as his death and advent. That for just under 2000 years was missed by everyone. Just to have a guy, which I didn’t know at the time was a narcissistic ,womanising, alcoholic, finally reveal that it was a wrong.
Looking back I can’t believe just how gullible I was.

Disillusioned Jw. The point I was trying to make. If the bible got into all the nighty gritty of how, rather than the purpose, of the earths formation, then the whole idea of mankind’s restoration would have been lost. This Starous / Stake thing I never brought into as a PIMI JW. I went for about 15 years believing Jesus meet his end on a cross, before I finally left the religion. I explained it by reasoning it was the reason he dies what mattered. Not the instrument he died on. There is just no way a guy who received that type of beating would have had the strength to carry a pole of that weight on his back. The plural form for nails / hands. The sign bern placed above his head. All point to a cross. I found the reasoning Wt used to explain this away to be very weak.
Looking back I just wished it had been the thing that made me move sooner.

Disillusioned JW: yes I agree that the bible should be tested against science. Firstly, there must be a few acknowledgements made. The Bible in itself is not primarily a science manual. Its primary purpose is the restoration of humanity through a mediator, Jesus Christ. It’s in the course of this story unfolding that it touches on areas of science. Many of which were unknown at the time e.g sanitation, quarantine, horticultural practices.
To illustrate, according to bible chronology humans have existed for about 6000 years. The first 11 chapters of Genesis, from Adam and Eve to Abraham. Contain the first 2000 years of existence. Therefore it could perhaps be expected that the bible, could be vague on scientific matters because
(a) it’s not a science manual. It’s a restoration manual.
(B) the sheer space required to document it.
(c) The information was unnecessary for the time and the audience it was written to. They were told all faecal matter was to be covered. People with contagious diseases to be isolated , and that sufficed for the time. Going into depth of atoms an ions, was I necessary for the time.
