So...what do you think about The United States of America?
by minimus ini know the usa is not perfect.
there have always been social issues and differences.
politics has been for many people divisive.

This kind of sums it up really.
(Q) How many Americans does it take to change a light bulb.
(A) None because they think the world revolves around them.
(Q) Why do Americans have big cars.
(A) Because you need a big car to carry all that weight and attitude.
Americans as a culture, I find to be self absorbed, demanding, over weight, loud and just down right rude. I think, this me first and to hell with anyone else ( first amendment) attitude has led to the problems they are now having with this Corona virus. Will they learn? I would very much doubt it.
As a place to live. The only positive is that they have cheap fuel and eating out ( which is also a problem). For what you earn as opposed to lack of welfare and health care cost, I think I’d rather stay in my own country.
Oh and I forgot to add, also the most medicated nation in the world.

Bleecker Street — I saw a shadow touch a shadow’s hand (New York)
by slimboyfat inwill i ever make it to new york?
i feel if i ever did make it to new york i would never want to leave again.
what do i know about new york?

To be fair I have never been to NYC. But I have been to Paris, Rome, and Barcelona. I found Paris reasonably clean, but Rome and Barcelona to be absolutely filthy. Everything had a black tinge to it. I certainly wasn’t impressed with Barcelona when I saw an open drain of semi treated sewage running to the ocean. I can’t understand why everyone raves about the place. I imagine NY would be the same.

Baptism during Covid - pool must tough the ground?
by jwfacts inthe july 2020 announcements mentions that baptism can be held in an “inflatable pool” as long as it touches the ground.
the pool must not be “on a terrace, flat roof, balcony, etc.”.
has anyone ever noticed that as a requirement?.

Hey I agree that anything with Wt is possible. Wouldn’t it be funny if they were flooded with letters from people wanting an annulment of their baptism because of health and safety concerns. Just think of the legal implications of being unfairly shunned from something that didn’t comply with H&S. New light I guess.

“The Asiatic Mind” — Watchtower 1956
by slimboyfat insearching instances of the word “simplify” in watchtower literature, i stumbled across this.. the asiatic mind finds it difficult to accept new ways, to simplify and to make advantageous changes.
they fear conversion and dislike others’ offering them help.
many continually live in a realm of unreality and refuse to face modern facts of life.

Magnum - Just be thankful they weren’t Joseph Smith or Brigham Young because then you really would have something to complain about.

The thing that really peeves me, is for years Wt had been beating up the internet e.g Jehovah’s holy spirit was to be found amongst his people serving at the hall. I remember even been counciled ,when I gave a bible reading from a print out, that Gods word was to be found in the bible. I can’t believe what it has become.

The mormon church(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)
by asp59 inanyone here thats a former mormon?

that community could not be more impressive in its cohesion, sincerity, benevolence, decency, patriotism, and faith.. i seen mormons go from house to house before the convid virus.they always seem cheerful.

The thing I can’t understand with this guys wife is why she would leave one cooky religion to get into another one, that may appear a bit more main stream, but is just off the charts with crazy. Ok you have got the pyramids of Russel, and Booze Rutherford, but OMG they are nothing compared to the antics of J Smith. That guy was just just out of control. Well that’s just my thoughts on it.

Lacelink- when I left the JWs I didn’t think it was possible to get any more bat shit crazy. It wasn’t until I started to investigate the mormons that I discovered how wrong I was. What on earth made your wife get out of the frying pan and into the fire.

To be honest, I think the JWs have equaled if not out performed the Mormon church in almost every way. The idea that the Mormon membership is bigger, happier and more engaged in their religion is simply not true.
