The last sentence is usually the one that hits home the hardest. perhaps you could tone yours down just a little from reading: "I won't allow shunning, and the pain it causes, to be apart of it. " To something like: "I will not allow un-Christ-like shunning and the pain and suffering is causes others into my blessed home...there is already enough evil and lack of love in the world." JamesT

Rosemarie, Sometimes when I point this out to people they don't like it. It's not what they want to hear. They may not really want their suffering to end. But here goes... It seems that life often throws us these "surprising" situations which would piss-off the pope. People seldom do what we want or expect of them; and we get angry. Two things have helped me be more at peace (for some reason peace feels nicer than suffering to me). First, is to see that people are what they are, they are not under my control. So now I can relax a little. I don't expect them to perform to my script.....I mean, they're not going to anyway, so I might as well get real about it, and just accept them as they are. Second, is to see that almost always my suffering is due to continually playing the tape of a past "wrong", when others didn't do what I would have wanted them to do. In other words, it's my own thoughts that are causing me pain. It's my own non-acceptance of reality that is causing me pain. If I let go of the past, I feel at peace. If I hold on to it, I suffer. If we live in this moment, rather than memories of past, or fears and hopes of future, things can be pretty darn peaceful. People may look at you weird because your smiling when no one else is, but so what. JamesT escapee of the bitch and moan class (but not always)

by bebu inas i've mentioned in an earlier post, i am not a jw.
my dear neighbor is.
we get along so great, i was surprised when i learned that dubs were not supposed to have "worldly" friends.. this relationship kind of started by accident.

Beryl, You ask
"how on earth does one even begin to do this?"
First it helps to respect the pain and suffering you feel within you, because it is calling you back Home, back to that which you seek. What I have to share is very simple, but can be extremely difficult because we are so programmed and inclined to go against it. It's not about learning some new scriptures or dogma or "spiritual" practices. It's about seeing what is already here that we are missing. Have trust that the Source of this magnificent universe has not abandon you, but is present and wanting your embrace. Waiting within your own sense of Being for rediscovery. The Kingdom of God, or the ALLNESS of that which we call God, is within you. We are not separate and apart from Wholeness, though indeed it feels as if we are fragmented and broken. The doorway to rediscovering Truth, is simply to shift our attention away from the mind and all of it's chatter, judgment, questions and commentary....and into this moment and the unspeakable sense of being and aliveness within you. This may seem like a little and insignificant thing. It is not. Watch your thoughts. Do not judge them. Look and see how it is thoughts about the past and future which triggers tension and tightness in the body which triggers emotions like fear and anger. Turn your attention more into yourself than out there. Get to know yourself. Be gentle. Take it slow. Do not judge yourself. Feel your breathing. Be present with the senses of the body. Notice how much time is spent lost in thoughts. Come back to being present in this moment, and the many silent senses of being alive. Live without thinking about it. Use the mind only when necessary. Keep coming back to the silent moment of being alive. JamesT

ti14 years. I just ran into my JW sister after
by Granny Linda inomg!!!
but, hey.
i knew it was in the cards.

Granny, Good for you. Rant and rave awhile. Good for the soul. Years of forcing ones heart into loving and worshipping a god who will kill you if you don't causes severe trauma to the heart and soul. Because to love what threatens to destroy you, goes against the very nature of love. To expect a dedicated Witness to act rationally after so much abuse is a little foolish on our part. It is your sister who is bleeding and chained to the wall within the prison of her mind, and needs our prayers. JamesT

Beryl, As long as you continue to believe in a god who is a person, a thing, and object outside of you, who kills, condemns and destroys, you are going to undergo much fear and confusion....guaranteed. I suggest looking silently into your own heart for answers, rather than beliefs and scriptures. The peace and wholeness that you seek is already yours. You are just looking in the wrong places. Luke 17:21, in my opinion, is the most important scripture of the Bible. It points us away from phenomena and into our own being. At the core of which, is the Infinity which the word God -- points to. This is the ultimate truth, that all true mystics throughout time -- no matter their religion or lack of one -- have discovered within themselves. JamesT
