Edited to add: He showed us how he did most of the tricks, to dispel any idea that it was magic! I bet you thought it was real magic before he showed you huh? lol My kids couldn't watch the Smurfs when they were little, but this guy can do Magic Tricks at Pagan gatherings. I don't get it.

Entertained at Christening party by JW
by Fe2O3Girl inon sunday, one my closest friend's daughter was christened.
after the church service, we went to a small party for about 40 family and friends.
at the venue i noticed an elderly gent wearing a tux, and realised i recognised him from somewhere, but couldn't place him immediately.

Fate or Coincidence
by deeskis ini was wondering if others have experienced the strange pull of jw'ism in their life.
i know that it is a minority religion and yet i seem to come across it so much.
consider some examples of this:.

I have a two rentals, I was interviewing the woman and told her we didn't allow smoking. She dilligently informed me that they were Jehovah Witnesses and they didn't smoke. I told her that I didn't want someone that was only going to stay for a few months and then move because it was a pain to interview renters and start all over again. She assured me that she would stay probably at least a year because her and her husband wanted to devote there lives to doing the ministry and our rent was reasonable and they didn't want any material things holding them down. She said she would be willing to sign a 6 month lease to prove her sincerity. 4 months later she calls to say they are moving because they want a bigger place, I remind her that she has signed a 6 month lease. She says I don't remember signing it, I tell her that I have it sitting right in front of me and she did indeed sign it. She says well I didn't know what I was signing. The fact that it says lease agreement on the top wasn't clear enough and the fact that she's the one thats suggested a lease when normally we did month to month rentals didn't matter. She then tells us she is moving out early and we tell her she will owe the rent regardless of whether she is living there or not. She agrees, moves out and writes me a hot check. We call her on it and she said the bank had an electronic glich, I call the bank and they said the only glich was that there wasn't any money in the acct. Now she refuses to pay us because she has new rent to pay and has lied to us on several occassions. We also rented to her young 19 year old daughter and her 19 year old husband, typical Witness age for getting married. We have another rental and before we knew what a nightmare her mother was we thought they would be good tennants. They lived liked complete pigs, it was so filthy I was shocked. I now have mice in the rental due to their filthyness. I've turned the mother's check into the District Attorney's. When we told her that we were doing that, her sister called us and quoted us scriptures about being meek and mild at heart. I'm sure she was meek and mild while she was writing me the bad check. Coincidence or lesson learned. Witnesses are no different and possibly less honest than the average worldly person. Don't read too much into these coincidences, I would call it more bad luck than anything.

i have not had any one from the hall take a run at me for at least a couple of years.

Who do they think they are to come at 10:00p??. Witnesses have the social graces of cavemen. How utterly presumptious (sp?) that they think they can take your Darwin symbol and flags as evidence. Since when isn't it enough that two "brothers" seeing the same thing wasn't evidences enough. Idiots I tell ya.

Now I'm getting suspicious. I've recently gotten a call from my very devout JW sister. She heard I was having some health issues and called to see how I was. I'm disfellowshipped and hadn't talked to her in 8 years. She lives across the country from me and was coming out this way to vist my other JW siblings. While she was here they all came over to see me. I started thinking maybe I was dying and they knew it and I didn't, lol. Has there been new light perhaps?

Crumpet, after reading your profile, I can't help but be concerned that you mention "killing someone" in your opening post to this thread. Whether it was a figure of speach or not. Am I reading your profile correctly as to the reason you were disfellowshipped the first time or were you being ficitious? Hope the later is true.

Brooke, you are incredible and I want to hurt those elders. Jehovah's Witnesses are the most unloving "loving" people there is. My family was treated similarly to yours because my father was an unbeliever and my mother was trying to raise 5 children as Witnesses. We we considered bad association as teenagers. Ironically most of the families that wouldn't let their children hang out with us, their adult children are not Witnesses anymore. 4 of 5 of my siblings are Witnesses. I'm the only one that isn't. You should get the book called "Swimming Upstream" written by an ex JW woman. There are alot of similarities to your life. It's inspirational and validates alot of the feelings of those of us that were raised JW. Do a search on Amazon and you can probably find one. Mumsy, I'm so happy Brooke found your son and you and your husband. I'm so glad you went to bat for them, I would have done the same thing. I hate bullies and that's what most elders are.

I always look at them and wonder which ones are leading double lifes, which ones wish they were somewhere else, which ones are doing the math on how many hours they have put in for the month, which ones are thinking they are superior to all the ignorant wordly people. And which one is the rare one that actually goes out to help save people because they love them.

Did you meet any con artist types there?
by LongHairGal init seemed to me that there were a number of con artist types of personalities i came across during my years there.
i am not referring to people who were actually doing anything illegal.
what i am referring to are people who were very adept at getting things out of other people.

About 15 years ago I was watching the news and they were talking about a contractor that had taken an elderly partially blind lady to the cleaners by rebuilding her deck and telling her it cost X amount of money. When they showed his picture I about fell off the couch, he was an Elder in my congregation when I was a Witty. He gave her a huge bid and lied to her about the extent that her deck needed to be rebuilt. Her adult children got suspicious and investigated and found out she had given her carte blanche on her checking account since she was blind and he was a trustworthy religious man. He was arrested but I never found out what came of it.
