Yiz:
Good luck and hope it all works out as you planned and stated above.
To the casual reader: Please review this thread . . . http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/41910/1/Financial-Help
and note this quote: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/42371/1/Personal-Attacks
As a friend from this forum pointed out to me that I am a newbie and most people don't believe in any kind of posts requesting for help UNLESS that person is well known by everyone on this forum and I had to agree with that.
Go ahead and flame me but this just seemed to be a less obvious plea for financial support and help. He is no longer a newbie and seems to be learning the fine art of asking for money without actually making the ask. However before you hit the send button flaming me, go back and re-read the initial post. It is all, we need this, I hope I can afford it, we need this I don't know how I am going to handle it financially.
If my memory serves me well, people here have given him money in the past (Granny don't do it!!!) So I can't help but believe he is coming back to the same 'successful' pot.
I am not claiming his story isn't true but do believe it is more about financials than sympathy. I do actually hope I am wrong but wanted to ensure all had at least the same historic perspective before allowing their heart strings to be pulled and before they decide to send $$ to help.
It is great however to see the responses and the level of caring willing to be given out in words of support. We have some amazing and tender hearts on this board. In this particular case however I am not one of these.
Just my opinion

Pleasantville
by waiting inon h20, someone commented on this movie as an insight on how we, as jw's look at the world and the problems of trying to change that looking.. i had seen the movie last year - i thought it was going to be a comedy - it wasn't.
but i didn't tie anything to it.
naturally, i didn't apply it to myself.. but this guy is right - i'm going to watch it again.

HOLY CRAP. I almost wet myself seeing Waiting's name appear on the active posts lists. Then was disappointed it was just a thread from 8 years ago.
Waiting, Redhorsewoman, Frenchy ... cool flashback!!
As for the movie, I never saw the original but do remember making the JW comparison when I watched the movie. I am living in full Technecolor now!! and wouldn't want it any other way!

Reniaa: Careful girl you are on the verge of apostacy. Your Governing Body has declared that vision to be symbolic yet you are inferring it to be reality. Also of concern is your use of another Bible translation. The NWT not sufficient for you?
Speaking as a former elder, 'Know your place woman and place yourself in subjection to the Governing Body and Elder arrangement. Don't be running ahead of God's chariot like organization with useless speculations." Don't like the sounds of that? Me neither. Demeaning to women to the point of abuse? Most definitely.... Yet another reason why I left.

child abuse issue
by jeffory1 ina little background about myself will clarify things i think.. my wife and i raised 3 daughters in the org., 2 are still belivers.
the last meeting we attendes as members of a cong.
was dec 3 2001. the process of seeing things for what they really were took a few years motivated by some pretty hard times at the hands of the " most loving people on the earth".

Jamie:
That was pretty much my thought as well. Who gives a flying F*** about scriptural rights to remarry. A child has been abused and it was never reported???
There are more important issues here than whether or not your daughter can re-marry. I am relieved you spoke about counselling and sincerely hope that you can convince your daughter to get your grand daughter into therapy. If the elders and your daughter have not reported this to the police I do strongly urge you to do so yourself.
This is not just going to disappear due to the public reproof. Pedophiles are repeat offenders. Other children in the neighbourhood and congregation need to be protected against this sick bastard.

Life After JWs
by Uzzah ini wanted to share some very cool (in my opinion) news.
in two months i will have been gone from bethel for 14 years and attended my last meeting 11 years ago.
i spent 11 years at bethel sacrificing all of my 20's to the borg and finding myself at age 32 with no resume or real work experience.. it has been a tough haul with the majority of my energy going into building a career.

Thanks FF. You have known me since my early 20's so your comments take on a special significance.
We've both come a long way!!! And yeah, I do take great pleasure in being in a position to make a real difference to others.
Eat my shorts WTBS!!! With certain projects that I have initiated I will be doing more for people with direct positive impacts in a year than you have in over a century. ... and I don't even demand blind loyalty...

I agree StAnn. Even when I was an elder I remember stating from the platform that we are encouraged not to think more of ourselves than it is necessary to think, which means it is necessary to think something of ourselves. That everyone has something to be proud of. Of course I then distorted it to fit into Society think but the concept remains.
Self worth is integral and congratulating oneself or celebrating one's strengths, victories and accomplishments is normal and healthy.
That realization can take forever for some who have been beaten by the BORG for many years.

It has been a tough haul with the majority of my energy going into building a career. I am now in the humanitarian/charity sector with a decent title and job.
Today I found out I was nominated to run as Vice President for the Industry Association for my profession. It was a nomination by three of my peers and I was asked today if I accepted the nomination and if I wanted to run in the election. After due consideration (about 20 seconds) I accepted the nomination. The election is in May.
Whether I win or not to me isn't the issue. The fact that I started so late, have developed enough of a professional reputation and credentials to have people, with no prompting at all, nominate me for the second highest position within the Association is very cool and rewarding.
I guess I just wanted to share that just because someone was once a slave (birth - age 32) to something with no future doesn't mean one is destined to remain that way.
Plus a little shameless self-promotion isn't a bad thing after years of being told I am nothing more than a worthless speck of dust.

Still here but was Kismet back then. Amazing the transition of so many over the years and the growth and the realization of some who had to be fake in order to cope with reality.
Thanks Simon for this outlet and Happy Birthday

I agree. I only was in the big house for 11 years but it was tough as a 32 year old with no real "work experience" to try and get a decent job! I eventually created an alternate resume showing IBSA (International Bible Students Association) or W. Glen How & Associates as employers rather than stating Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. ...
Eventually built a resume of real work experience to be where I am now at 44 but it has been a helluva ride and a damn tough time of it to build from scratch being about 10 years behind others my age in career development.
Forget Scripture but morally and out of a sense of fair play the BORG really should offer some kind of severance program for people who have given 10+ years to them. But then again the WTBS doesn't have a moral/fair bone in their entire body....
