Went to the assembly..some.personal thoughts on it.
by integ ini've been as honest as i can on this forum throughout my time bouncing in and out..and been jumped on for saying anything positive about the "truth" or my experiences at the hall, but it's been a few years now since i have been attending meetings.
i go to the memorial for family reasons and went to the assembly today for the same reason...but one observation i have to make is most of us have all dealt with years of hearing how gawd awful "the world" is and how the only happiness is going to meetings and out in service.
now that is total bs.

Thanks. I guess the part i'm over with is the taking notes and refuting everything being said. I've accepted the errors and outright BS are what they are: lies and BS.. and today did not get mad about it. It isn't worth it. Now, this would be different if I was now going back to 3 meetings a week and service. I'm sure of that. It's easy to pop in like this to an assembly..and pop right out. The hard part is fending off elders who think I might be coming back full time. That's a risk I took right there.
With the world the way it is right now...I DO wish they really were right...but my logical mind won't allow that. Sad part is too...they themselves created the doubt with the lies and cover ups...the flip flops....the BS. THEY did this. They make it impossible to buy in to it all. Man, I wish it were all real. It'd be great. But alas...like so many things...too good to be true; and for them to punish you for not buying in 100%? That is just plain wrong.

I've been as honest as I can on this forum throughout my time bouncing in and out..and been jumped on for saying anything positive about the "truth" or my experiences at the hall, but it's been a few years now since I have been attending meetings. I go to the memorial for family reasons and went to the assembly today for the same reason...but one observation I have to make is most of us have all dealt with years of hearing how gawd awful "the world" is and how the only happiness is going to meetings and out in service. Now THAT is total BS. The world is what we make of it. If you see it as a bad place...it'll be that way. In all honesty "the world" may not be as great as a repressed witness on the way out may think it is. There's a ton of bad...and negativity. Financial problems...people problems...crime etc etc etc. a heck of a lot of despair. THAT is all true. In my lengthy time away...I have come to fully realize this. Leaving the "truth" is not an escape to Disneyland where we soar on the winds of freedom and happiness. It doesn't make the witnesses "right" with everything...it's just the way it is.
I have to say there IS something to the mind numbing quiet of sitting for a few hours and zoning out at the assembly. Seeing alot of old friends even if I didn't talk to them was nice. I found the whole thing oddly cathartic just sitting there. It brought back alot of old memories. I won't get into what was actually being said on the podium cuz i've fought against that so much that i'm exhausted from it. It's mostly BS...I think that has been solidly established. I'm talking about just the experience (beyond that) of just being there in an atmosphere I grew up in...and have so many memories of. It was not a negative experience.
I remember the being pent up and controlled at the meetings would make the going out in the world that much more fun and exciting. Couldn't wait to get out and do fun stuff. I think those brought up witnesses almost have a better appreciation of things in the "world" due to being so restricted from it.
Anyway, not to diminish those that have been so negatively affected by the "truth" in serious ways..and make light of the experience of the assembly...but it was a bit of an escape from the "world" in which I have immersed myself these past years...if just for a few hours.
Thanks for listening.

Mass JW exodus
by stockholm_Syndrome inmaybe there will be a mass exodus from jws when thinking people read feb 2017 watchtower telling them the governing body stuff up, shouldnt expect correct/ perfect information and basically make up guff as they see fit.....ya reckon?.

Think about how the watchtower study is ran. Guy reads a paragraph from an org written and approved article...and then they ask questions and people MUST give org approved answers....that come straight from the paragraph they just read. They think as they are told to think.
I was watching this Scientology special with Leah Remini and the similarities are frightening. Scientologists have something called being "declared"...which means you are an enemy of the religion. Similarity? "Apostate". They also practice shunning and separate and destroy families.
The df'ing is... imo... the most damaging and evil thing the witnesses do. Along with the shunning. It's all about control. I had hoped by now they would have "adjusted" their thinking on this..but on they go with this archaic bulls##t.

The Secret is out....but nobody cares
by MrTheocratic ini've been looking on this site for some time but never posted.
i'll give a little about myself, but not too much.
i'm a ex-bethelite ( brooklyn )and currently serving as an elder (10 years) (thinking about stepping down) on the service committee.

Not that I don't believe you to be who or what you say you are, but I have to say that it's kind of weird to hear a long time witness...elder..use the word "movement" in describing the religion. Strikes me as an outsider type of term.
Anyway, all the best.

Stop WT society information control by giving access to REAL information
by flipper inof course we all know that many ex-jw's are doing this online constantly and that's a good thing.
whether by you tubes, websites, blogs, etc.
the worldwide community of ex-jw's has been and will continue to be proactive in putting out real information to counteract and offset the lies and fantasy propaganda put out by the wt society.

I know the pedophile "issue" is real but the problem in my area with convincing jw's that there IS a problem is that there have never been any local cases where anything like this has happened...or at least come out as happening. You tell a witness at any of my town's kingdom halls that they may be sitting next to a pedophile they'll just shrug it off as impossible, or laugh (not funny) or just be dismissive of it. It's not REAL to them. -

Is Watchtower's position on smoking consistent with its position on masturbation?
by Island Man inwatchtower considers masturbation to be a form of uncleanness but not a disfellowshipping offence because the bible says nothing about masturbation.
a jw who masturbates is likely to face no more than losing privileges in the congregation.. like masturbation, smoking is considered by jws to be a form of uncleannes and like masturbation, the bible says nothing about it.
but a jw who smokes faces disfellowshipping.. yes, smoking is known to be deleterious to a person's health whereas the jury is still out on the adverse health effects of masturbation.

I'll never forget the poor sap at the district convention who had to get up in front of 6,000 people and tell how he had a problem with watching pornography. Went into as much detail as he could w/out getting graphic. Kid was about 18 yrs old.
Imagine trying to find a sister after that.
It was uncomfortable for everyone and i'm sure humiliating for him.
I'm guessing he was busted and to avoid being df'd he was pushed to do this part.

Even hard core witnesses will have a problem with this as long as the evidence is irrefutable. If there's any room for doubt they will side with the society 100% of the time.

A great article right up until the end. He should've stayed away from saying "at least they won't be knocking on my door". Staunch witnesses will simply see that as a cheap shot and dismiss most of the article because of it.
Just my humble opinion.
Not that there aren't many things that might make witnesses think for a minute, but we need to be careful not to take too many cheap shots as it can be viewed by current members as simply cheap attacks by disgruntled ex-witnesses who are mad they got kicked out.
