i have the option of saying happy birthday or god bless you or even singing the happy birthday song.

example, my hubby (who was never a jw) is having a birthday today.

now, i have no problem celebrating with him.

I know what you mean.......After having to defend my ( Societies) stand on birthdays for so many years, it's almost like a matter of pride. You know in your heart it's NOT WRONG to celebrate, but to actually start singing the birthday song feels like you're comprimising your beliefs, even though you don't REALLY BELIEVE it's wrong. I can "passively" enjoy a birthday party and derive joy out of it without feeling guilty. But like you said, we've been "programmed" too much. And when you've made so many stands against it, the pride thing keeps me from getting into it "too much". I don't want to see that self righteous smirk on my sisters' face either.

Preaching Work Complete!!! or is it?

in 1989, we as jw's distributed and studdied many articles in the watchtower.

i remember one study article in particular that indicated that the preaching work would end by the end of the 20th century.

when the year 2000 came around, i searched bound volumes and the watchtower cd, but couldn't find the statement.

Watchtower 1/1/2006: "DO YOU TRY TO TO MAKE THE SLAVE LOOK SILLY?"

Never before has it been more clear to God's organization that we are in the "time of the end". What are some clear indicators this is true? God's Word the Bible in referring to this prophetic time states at Luke 21:21 "There will be earthquakes in one place after another." Never before in mankinds' history have we seen a greater multitude of earthquakes than we do today. Some faithful ones have asked " Is this referring to literal earthquakes?" Well, upon closer examination of the word "earthquake" we find that it is derived from the Greek word "seismos" which in it's definition means "a shaking, a shock, to move to and fro". With new understanding though, through God's spirit annonted "Channel", we see that the word eartquake is not be taken as a literal physical event, but rather, God's organization moving "to and fro" and in "one place after another." With the Kingdom work spreading world wide, never has this been more evident. The Faithful Slave is indeed "shaking" and "shocking" the world empire of false religion in this time of the end, exposing her false doctrines and counterfeit words. Admittedly, We have had to make certain "clarifications" in our understanding of certain Scriptures, and those of the great crowd spoke of at Revelations have had to be "readjusted" in their thinking, and been counseled to avoid the snare of "presumptuousness", and also exhorted to avoid looking with a "critical eye" at "God's Mouthpiece".... the Faithful and Discreet Slave Class". Matt:24:45. How do you feel about this "Slave" through whom Jehovah imparts instruction in these critical times? Do you have a tendency to laugh at reports of Governing Body members being "inflamed with passion" and dressing up as women while preparing for talks at our District Assemblies. Do you find it humorous that some of our dear annointed brothers have had to resort to having to sleep with "Gay jay dolls" they have had to reluctantly purchase from adult book stores in order to satisfy their "weaknesses of the flesh"? Let us not fall into this "snare" dear brothers, and understand that while none of us are perfect, the Faithful Slave" is still a lot better than You could ever dream of being.(Ps139:14). If the Slave looks "silly" at times, dear brothers, it is because of YOUR imperfections. Next Issue...:" Masturbation with household cleaning agents....is it wise?"

Any here really enjoy going out in service?

i hated it with a passion!

who enjoyed it??.

i can possibly imagine someone who's home life was miserable, and it was an excuse to get out of the house.

I almost got in a fight with a homeless man in service. He said "You guys are'nt welcome in this neighborhood" I said ... "Either are you... jackass " I must have been having a tough day at the doors. Nobody was accepting my invitation to join me in a paradisaic new world. What the hell was their problem?

Why isn't it written "Bible" on the JW bible?

a few years back, a person who didn't like jw's too much asked me why the word bible wasn't written on the front cover of our bible.

i told him that it was written holy scriptures and it meant the same thing.

on my french jw bible, it is written "les saintes ecritures" which means holy scriptures.

Some "brothers" have special binding on their NWT'S that say "HOLY BIBLE". Most are elders that i've noticed.

Public Talk 6/8/03....Mercy

the public talk today was on mercy.

at first glance you think "oh, just another rehash of old stuff we already have heard, just general, sanitized stuff".

but i believe there is a method to this madness.

The public talk today was on mercy. At first glance you think "oh, just another rehash of old stuff we already have heard, just general, sanitized stuff". But I believe there is a method to this madness. While we were treated to the usual tiresome biblical examples of mercy, as is the case in most public talks, the real "point" attempting to be made is usually expressed in the last 15 minutes or so of the talk. It was explained that we are to be merciful to everyone INCLUDING those taking the lead among us. The point? We should forgive the perceived mistakes of the FDS, and show MERCY to THEM (this was inferred, not stated directly) Are they preparing us for a possible apology from the FDS? Doubtful, I know, but there has been a growing number of articles, talks, etc. regarding showing more love and compassion to others. Which begs the question....'Is there possibly going to be some "new light" on the disfellowshipping doctrine?' Elders were admonished (witnessism) to be extra tender when dealing with the flock, and not to rush to negative conclusions in regards to people under their "care". With all the legal troubles with the society directly or indirectly associated with the Df'ing issue, it makes me wonder. Although on the flip side of that, they have gotten even tougher on associating with those who say that they don't want to be in the "truth" anymore. Any thoughts on where they are going with this stuff? I'm a little perplexed by it all.

Do demons flee from the name of God?

alright, i need a question answered, if possible with bible versicles.

do demons flee when someone pronounces god's name, jehovah?

i know this is a belief from the jws, but i don't know on what it is founded, or if it is.

I too believe in the existence of spirit realms. Some have stated that demons and such only exist in our minds, but I know this is'nt true. I've seen items in a room being thrown to the other side of the room for absolutely no apparent reason, when I was the only one in the room. So if you've had first hand experience with this kind of thing you DO BELIEVE. To try and dismiss these experiences as "hogwash" or whatever, is not fair. I am quite in control of my mental faculties, was not on drugs when these things occured, and don't make stuff up. I agree very much with your post, especially the part about there being different "realms" if you will in the spirit as well as physical world. People that just dismiss the possibility of these realms existing obviously have never had first hand experience with these realms, so I don't fault them for their scepticism, but they tend to try to make people who DO believe, look silly or feeble minded. I beleive that people can contact these realms during meditation, and confuse these "contacts" as being God. When in reality they are meeting inhabitants of "lower" astral realms, who may not have the aspirants best interests at heart. These I believe are the "demons" that people refer to....But as you alluded to, these "demons" if approached as you did, will disappear. I believe that these "entities" are fueled by an individuals fears. And without this fear, they have nothing.

I believe in the scripture that says "Perfect love casteth out all Fear" I believe Jesus said that, and I have a lot of respect for the things said attributed to Him.
