Whatever happened to the "Fall of Babylon the Great" and the "drying up of the churches?

i am from the era of the babylon book, and all the wt predictions that the churches of christendom would "dry up".

the book babylone the great has fallen god's kingdom rules, said people would leave the churches of christendom, in droves and the ministers would have no more people in their churches while "god's organization" would see a tremendous increase, a huge overflowing great crowd, all streaming into the watchtower and coming to the "faithful and discreet slave" for instructions.

thirty years ago there were six million jw's , today after the "great increase", and " great crowd" is now ?

The internet has severely slowed the "potential" growth of the org. What's the first thing someone that is interested does after an inspiring introduction at the door from a witness? They either get online and see what's really up, or if they're too old to get online (and/or don't know how to do that), they call their sons or daughters and scare them that their mom is interested in this strange religion and THEY get online and then report back to their mom to stay away.

The mom then starts hiding from future visits and/or politely tells them she's not really interested.

You can substitute "mom" for "dad" in this example.

Most of the new ones are coming from underdeveloped countries right?

The only new ones are family of ones that are already "in" in our circuit.

Meeting attendance

I visited the Evansville Wisconsin kingdom hall recently becuz of a relative of mine. Funny how the biggest jerks in my family are the witnesses. Since I haven' t gone to meetings much lately...last few yrs. i look at things from a different perspective.

IMO...no offense...witnesses are just weird...period.

There was one big fat guy at that hall named Shane...he is an azzwipe.

I saw in last weeks study article how the Society is really hammering the flock in regard to NOT having ANY contact whatsoever with family members who have been df'd.

I thought they had been softening a bit on this stance but it seems they are more hard core than ever.

Why? Is it simply becuz there's a better chance that the df'd person will convince the loyal witness to leave by criticizing the org?

I had thought that the entire stance on df'ing was trending toward abolishing it..or at least lessening the severity, but now THIS?

In the article they lay down the gauntlet; either you adhere to NOT having ANY involvement with df'd family members or you are going directly against God.

In the article they don't even allow for association in regard to "non spiritual" activities, which previously was allowed.

My opinion is the harder they go with this the worse off they will be. We are talking about ruining families just becuz someone made a mistake and isn't sorry enough in their eyes. THEY DECIDE.

These JC's have so much power to ruin families it's ridiculous.

I'd think alot of people would just say "enough is enough". But they don't. They just keep on accepting ANYTHING the Society says..however ridiculous or damaging it might be.

Loyalty to the org. is loyalty to God...

When are people gonna friggin wake up.

i can't believe what i am reading.. lie: "the lawsuit alleged that watchtower had a policy that instructed elders in its jehovah's witnesses congregations to keep reports of child sex abusers within the religious group secret to avoid lawsuits.".

..just to add, my mom said "The society has said they are against child abuse..i remember reading or hearing that". I responded "Mom, what are they gonna say? Are they gonna get up at an assembly and say "We have decided we are FOR child abuse"?"

When a previous article came out in local paper...like 3 yrs. ago or something...it was the "Dateline" NBC case...anyway, she cried and din't want to go out in service but got "set straight" by the elders. She was really bothered by a story talking about JW's being linked to child abuse and coverups.

Well, here is her reasoning now..after this latest case and after being "set straight" again by the elders:

"It's all Satan's doing. We knew we would be persecuted, especially in time of the end, and what better way for Satan to attack us than using the most horrible thing possible (child abuse) to accuse us of."

"Really, it makes total sense that Satan would do this and we've been told over and over that persecution was going to get worse and worse and this is all just part of it. We should really expect this kind of thing. Satan is no dummy and he's gonna use everything he's got to try and tear us down and what better way than using child abuse to after us with".

Watch out for increased disfellowshippings in light of sex abuse ruling.

this latest ruling could end up being double edged sword.. if the "society" does indeed make an "adjustment" in how they handle a brother or sister's complaints of abuse by abandoning the "two witness rule" then it could be an easy transition into df'ing more people due to their not being a requirement of having "two witnesses" to any event of badness on the part of congregation members.. with that "adjustment" anyone could just make up stuff from now on and have jc meeting to lower the boom.

no more would 2 witnesses be needed.. i'm sure they would use this "clarification in understanding" to their benefit as they do with everything else they implement.. they have been trying to thin the herd with getting rid of those harboring doubts for some time.

this could just make it easier.. just a thought..

JWs preparing for some "Special Top Secret Meeting" does anyone knows about this?

i was talking to one of my jw ex-friends today (we keep in contact every once in a while) and she was all excited telling me about the new arregment, a special meeting only for elders, their wives, pioneers and other sheep of "exemplary" conduct... (of course she was invited)..... something about one meeting from bethel that is going to be broadcasted to everyone at assembly halls and translated via radio for those who cannot speak english... is by invitation only (and they are "being discreet w the invitations to avoid offend the ones not invited") and they even gave them tickets they have to present at the door..... anyone has the scoop??

My mom was invited to the one in Janesville, Wi. on the 29th of Oct. She just told me that she thinks the end is near cuz US troops leaving Afghanistan.

I feel sorry for her cuz I know she's getting duped, and been getting duped for all these years. She's a really good lady; nice.

She's worried I'm not gonna be there to meet all our deceased relatives when they come back.

JWs pretended to be someone else at my door.

this is probably in the wrong section, but i couldn't decide where to put it.

i was raised a jw and i still suffer effects from that kind of upbringing.. anyway, they said they were local community volunteers and they wanted to give me something related to the community.

i didn't open the door but they put a jw tract through it.. i don't think it's right to be so devious about recruitment.

If you challenge them about saying they are NOT community volunteers they will say that by going door to door and "volunteering" to do so, and that they are in fact a part of the "community", therefore they qualify as "community volunteers".
