Nope. Not searching. I'm done with organized religion. If God, or Jehovah God, doesn't like the person that I am, then I guess I will face the consequences.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra
by TheSilence insince being allowed to celebrate christmas my family and i have been making traditions for ourselves.
one of the things we do every year is see the trans-siberian orchestra when their christmas show comes through.
for those of you not familiar with it... a lot of it is classical music played on electric guitars and electric violins... some of it is original... and most, if not all, is very good.

They were in my town last night, as a matter of fact. By the time I heard they were coming, they were sold out. A good friend of mine got to go and I'm anxious to talk to her today to get her review of the show!
Our "tradition" over the last couple of years is that we play the "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" CD really LOUD while we decorate the tree!

I still remember the BIG DEAL they made from the platform at the KH about this movie. Rumors were running rampant about dubs going to see this movie and the DEMONS were following them home! One story in particular I remember was that two brothers from Bethel went to see it and decided to leave in the middle of the movie. The DEMONS held them down in their seats and wouldn't let them leave until the movie was over.
Even though I've been out for almost 20 years, it took me a LONG TIME to get up the courage to watch this movie all the way through. Now I have it on DVD! The creepiest part by FAR is the "crab walk" scene that they added to the re-mastered DVD. If you haven't seen it yet, and you liked to be creeped out at movies, I highly recommend it!

How do you feel about Christmas?
by AJN indo you enjoy it after so many years of not celebrating?
does it have any relevance to you now?.
i live in nz and it doesn't feel like xmas to me cause it's the middle of summer - it just doesn't compute so that helps really all in all.

I'm celebrating my 20th Christmas this year. I'll be 40 next year. I think I like the decorations and the music more than I do the gifts. I kind of resent having to go into debt each year for gifts, but I do it because of my kids. A secret to divulge: I always sang Christmas carols when I was a kid even though I knew I wasn't supposed to. I was SUPPOSED to leave the room while they were being sung, but my teachers let me stay because I loved them so much, they just didn't tell my mom. I always thought some of the Kingdumb Melodies sounded like Christmas carols.
Anybody else felt the same way?

Anyone Else?
by Viper76Man ini have been out of the religion for several years now (was rasied in it so have 18 years under my belt).... although i was never shunned.
it seems to me that lots of people have been ignored by members of the jw's after leaving.
i expected this to be the case and expected my family members to begin to keep there distance.

Hi Viper. I'm live in Michigan too! Western side of the state.
I have to agree that the line is drawn when you are baptized. I, too, was raised in the truth, but was never pressured to get baptized until I started studying with a pioneer when I was 18. I don't even think I was a "real" JW for a year before I was DF'd. My family has shunned me for almost 20 years now. My mom asked me several years ago why I got baptized in the first place. She said that if I had not made that decision, she would not have to shun me. That we could have a normal mother/daughter relationship. I always thought those comments interesting.

What Was Your Biggest Gripe About The Elders???
by minimus inafter reading some of the pain that you've gone through, in many cases, the elders weren't there at all for you.
i'm wondering what your biggest complaint about the elders is.

The elders (small letters intentionally) that DF'd me were evil. I can't think of a point in my life where I was more humiliated and shit upon than that day. I hate to say this, because I'm generally a kind and loving person, but the day I saw the obituary in the paper for one of those elders that sat upon that judiciary committee, I was happy. He was not that old when he died and I was glad. Is that bad?
My step-uncle is also an elder and when he "officiated" at my grandmother's funeral I was furious as he did not know her at all.

You Know You're Canadian When...
by dottie ini just recently recently received this email (yet again) but seeing as i am a "transplanted canucker" now living in the u.s., this struck me as alot more funny now because of interactions with my new american friends .
1. you are not offended by the term "homo milk".
(yes, i was quite intrigued by the us term 'whole milk') 2. you understand the phrase "could you pass me a serviette, i just dropped my poutine, on the chesterfield.

I've driven through Canada, does that count? Actually, living in Michigan, I know what a "pop" is. I refuse to use the term, however. To us Hoosiers, everything is a "coke".

I used to go to a lot of assemblies in Cincinnati! At the Reds stadium. Then they moved them to Louisville, KY for a while.
I'm originally from Indianapolis.

AOL - what's your opinion?
by TresHappy ini've had aol for several years now.
i am dumping it very soon.
anyone else have aol and what is your opinion?
-
Ghosthunter
AOL sux.
Be careful when you dump them, especially if they bill your credit card for your monthly service. We used them BRIEFLY before we got our cable modem access and almost a YEAR later, they started billing our credit card again! We had to call the bank and cancel the card! THEN, they sent us a bill for over $100 and said they were sending us to COLLECTION! It took a couple of months to get it straightened out. They would not believe that we had not been using their service, even though they could SEE on our account that it had been inactive for the entire year.
ALSO beware when you call them to cancel, they will transfer you to one of their high pressure salesmen that will offer you all these free minutes to stay. This person will NOT take no for an answer! The guy my husband talked to was so persistent, that my husband had to SCREAM at him and then hung up!
AOL is bad. Very bad.
