Your Favorite Scary Movie?

I LOVE scary movies! Imagine that! My favorite? Session 9 with David Caruso. If you are into horror, supernatural, creepy, etc, this movie is a MUST. You may have to look for it, but most Blockbusters have it.
I will have to admit that not a lot of movies actually scare me, but among my favorites are Poltergeist, The Shining (I know the TV version follows the book a lot closer, but I have to agree that no one puts terror in my heart like Jack Nicholson with an ax), Exorcist I and Exorcist III (seriously creepy movie). The original Halloween scared the crap out of me when I was a teenager. I'll also admit that The Ring was the first movie to make me jump in a very long time. That girl coming out of the TV about made me come unglued!
Forever looking for that real supernatural experience......

What to expect at a JW funeral

My grandmother died about three years ago and it was a very traumatic for me, if not a turning point in my life. For many years, I had been happy living my "disfellowshipped life", not having to think much of my family shunning me as I lived so far from them, anyway. When hearing word of my grandmother's death (we had been very close before her dementia had set in), all the bad feelings and fear that the JW's instilled in me when I was a child came rushing back.
Parallel to Lovinglife's story, my grandmother had been "inactive" for many, many years and was a JW in name only. She stopped attending the KH several years, even before her mind started to go. However, she was a very kind and loving woman and had many friends over the years (JW and Non-JW). Her funeral was not held at the KH, but at the funeral home. My step-uncle (who is an elder) gave the sermon, which I was not too happy about. He has always been a very cold man and did not feel he was the person to put Grandma into the ground. But, I had no choice. He did talk several minutes about my Grandma's life and how many people loved her. Of this, I was grateful. He did, however, turn it into a JW recruiting sermon and my husband (never a JW) had many questions afterwards. He was especially confused that there was no mention of the after-life.
Ironically, my grandmother's funeral was in Indiana.

Sex,Sex, and more Sex????
by morty innow that i have your attention,i would like to know if some of you experienced teenage parents could give me some advice.you see i have a teenage boy.he is going to be 15 real soon.the topic sex has come up many times in the past and i usally just pass it off to his dad.
( i think that that is dads territory..lol)i have to say we have a pretty good open communication when it comes to most things.this weekend though,my husband says he is going to actually buy him some condoms and show him how they work.my problem is this.
(a) my son knows that we really think that sex should be saved for the one you love.

Let me speak from EXPERIENCE. Condoms are not as effective as everyone thinks they are and I agree with the post that you need to start talking to your kids about sex as young as 10 or 12. Let me LAY IT ON THE LINE.......I am a 39 year old grandmother of an almost one year old baby girl fathered by my (now) 17 year old son. We figured out he was probably 15 when she was conceived. We TALKED to him about sex and gave him condoms as well. If they want to do it, they're going to do it.
I love my grand-child with all my heart but I know from experience what is in store for my son.

workplace woe(s) - your opinion sought
by DFWnonJW ini work in a very small shop and the secretary has been the owner's mother-in-law.
sadly, she has been in the hospital for the past couple of weeks and in fact the family was summoned to the hospital late this afternoon and apparently she doesn't have long to live.
who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Working in a small shop, it is very hard to be "politically correct" as the same laws don't apply to small companies as they do to larger companies.
If it were me, I would discreetly tell the owner about the relationship and suggest that you should hire a temp from another agency in the hopes that she/he would work out better than the last temp. If you don't feel comfortable about telling the owner about the whole thing, then just strongly suggest a temp just in case the regular receptionist gets better and comes back to work. Bottom line, whatever the size of the office, you don't need that kind of sh*t as it will turn out to be a cancer in your office.
Trust me. I work in Human Resources!

Ouija Board - Does It Really Work?
by Black Man in.
so..........have you ever played with one?
and if you have, what happened?

A couple of months ago, I was in New Orleans with some friends. One of the friends brought along a Ouija board for fun, as we were "supposed" to be staying in a haunted bed and breakfast. Never having used one (believe it or not) I was curious. Late one night, when everyone else staying at the b&b was out in the French Quarter, we decided to hold a seance. The whole experience was weird and disturbing. There were three of us and the planchette moved all over the board, spelling out various things. I concentrated on the other two women's fingers to see if either one was directing the planchette. Like me, they could barely keep their fingers on it. We all felt as if we were keeping the planchette from flying off the board. Finally, when it spelled out "kill girl", we quit, all of us more than a little freaked out.
Since returning, all three of us have a quite a run of bad luck. We're wondering if we disturbed something. My husband keeps saying "I told you so" as he had a bad experience with a Ouija board when he was a teenager. He's never been a JW, quite a skeptic when it comes to the supernatural, so I have to believe him.
My 2 cents.

Do you still love your relatives/friends who shun you?
by HadEnuf inas i was participating in my daily duties of domestic slavery i got to ruminating about my mom, sister and brother who are shunning me (even though i am neither df'd of da'd).
i got to thinking to myself that i don't really miss them all that much.
in fact; i almost feel that i have lost the abundance of love that i once felt for them...well, except for my brother who i have never gotten along with anyway.

I have been shunned for the better part of 20 years. Not by my mother as much (my father was never a JW and died when I was a baby), but the rest of my relatives I was close to when I was growing up.
My grandmother died 3 years ago, although she had been inactive for several years (due to senility). After her death, I feel as if I have no family and try to make do with that.
Sad thing to pass on to my own children.
