Well, now, how COURTEOUS was your reply to my post in the Political section? You know, the one where you stated, "Good grief, more drama"?
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
lately, it seems to be that people are on edge and are forgetting common courtesy in their posts.
people have told me that they were thinking of un-subscribing or at least taking a long break from the board due to people who take their negative opinion of the subject or opinion being discussed, and turn it into a personal attack.. what is happening here?
any idea why this sudden spike in overbearing rude people posting here?

I think the whole gun thing is part of the general American paranoia - you seem to live in total and constant fear. How sad.
Many Americans do live in fear - how do you think Bush got re-elected? Fear of gays, fear of terrorists, fear of someone taking away their precious guns, fear that others may stop believing in God and, therefore, have a hell of a better, saner, happier life than themselves. You should hear the squealing whenever the terror alert gets raised...it's friggin' pathetic. How anyone could buy into such a blatant manipulation of people's fears and emotions, I will never know. Forgive me for going off topic, but it's kind of related.
After living in fear of Armegeddon for so many years, this American refuses to live in any more fear. WHEN the terrorists strike again (WHEN, not IF), there's precious little I can do about it. The railings around Independence Hall make me sick. Take them down and if the terrorists strike, let us go down with dignity, for chrissakes.

OMG, she treads on the bill of rights .... yeah well IMO the reasons our founding fathers wanted to include the right to bear arms are not valid in today's society, 200+ years hence.
Very, very true.
What the founding fathers meant is far from the interpretation the NRA would like us to believe.
do you ever have those days, weeks, months, or even years where you just feel like your entire existence is completely pointless, when time has shot by and you feel like you have done none of the things that you set out to do so many years prior.
when you feel like you have been standing still forever.. you work your routine and live your life, maybe have some friends, but when you go to sleep at night you still feel like there is nothing, no point or reason or meaning for any of it, like life is a void, and all your actions, feelings and everything about you is simply designed to distract you from the fact that there is nothing, and if you're lucky you're so distracted that you never notice it at all.
it's like some insane cylce and you can never break it, no matter what you do or how you try.
I live in the moment as best I can. I don't pay much attention to things of little consequence. And I no longer waste my time wondering if I am going to die at Armegeddon. Whether there will be an Armegeddon or not, I don't know. I only know I refuse to live the way I did as a JW, living only for the day I will inevitably die because I wasn't good enough to live forever.
Fact is, I'm more than good enough. I wish I hadn't bought into all the bull which cost me over 10 years of my life. But I can't change it, and don't waste my time living with regret.
Life is to be lived and enjoyed. I could have a heart attack tomorrow, or be hit by a bus. I really don't want to spend the last moments of my life regretting the manner in which I lived it. My house is never really clean; I do what amuses me instead of what will impress others. I don't have much money, but what I do have, I spend to make both my life and the lives of friends, family, and even strangers, a little brighter. If there's a God waiting to kill me for any or all of this, as far as I'm concerned, he can knock himself out doing so. I am through living my life in fear. I am beginning to have a blast.
Life is good. An existence is never pointless if one is happy.
And I am.
do you think it's acceptable for the us to imprison children as young as 11 years old ?!?!.
does the behaviour of drunken us soldiers assaulting a 17 year old girl make them undisciplined yobs?.
this comment is particularly disturbing imo and should result in prosecution.. in her interview, she said maj gen walter wodjakowski, then the second most senior army general in iraq, told her in the summer of 2003 not to release more prisoners, even if they were innocent.
I found this particularly disturbing:
"I don't care if we're holding 15,000 innocent civilians," she said Maj Gen Wodjakowski told her. "We're winning the war."
Uh, first of all, no, we're not.
And secondly....this is the mindset that's going to bite millions of conservative Americans in the collective ass. They simply cannot, or will not, understand that any who would violate the rights of Iraqis would also violate THEIR rights in a New York minute.
The ACLU has sued US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on behalf of four Iraqis and four Afghans who say they were tortured in US facilities.
I finally joined the ACLU. Best $35 I've ever spent.

Don't worry, Simon, someone here probably will.
the worst one i ever had was working in a frozen chicken factory.
there were about 30 of us in a freezing cold room and my shit job was to feel the half-frozen chicken breasts up, to see if there were any little bones in them.
well after the first 5 minutes my frigging fingers were frozen stiff, so i couldn't tell if there were any bones in there or not........after 20 minutes it felt like my hands were having an out of body experience and if they weren't in front of my frozen face, i would've thought they had dropped off.
Correcting spelling and grammar errors on an ex-JW site.
my wife is getting baptized on the 19th.
there is nothing i can do or say to stop it.
we have 3 children, and i am from a broken home, so i can't imagine divorcing.
Check, I would love to help by my experience has been that one can rarely gets straight answers to honest concerns from elders, and definitely nothing on which their ostensible stamp of approval (via their signatures) can be found.
you don't automatically wake up with a headache on sunday morning.... you no longer go around (while in field service) mentally deciding what home you'll "have" after armaggedon.... every item of clothing you buy as a woman is not first assessed for its modesty value.... you no longer worry about the 144,000 watching you have sex...:).
when on holiday you don't have to find the nearest kingdom hall asap (remember brother and sisters you are not on holiday from jehovah!!!).
being able to laugh about having a numb ass at the assemblies from sitting and the hilarity in having to tell people that you found the meeting "uplifting" when really you were fighting sleep the whole time.... you no longer have to avoid entire sections of music stores in order to make sure you don't pick up and "demonistic" vibes from backmasked cd's.
Your life is so great now that you no longer give a rat's ass if there's a Jehovah waiting to kill you with a giant hailstone for such egregious transgressions as having the audacity to put up a tree with some shiny ornaments on it once a year, or eating a cake on which a few blown out candles have resided
i've taken a leaf from holly's book to thank your for having me on the forum - thirteen interesting days but came to realise one cannot achieve much speaking from behind a screen.
people do not know who you really are, nor do you they.
i read many of holly's posts but few others.
I read many of Holly's posts but few others. There was so much pain and anger out there. Jealousy, malice distortions, outright lies, innuendos, but like all generalisations this one of mine is unfair on any who are genuine with no axe to grind.
Well, now, you must be some sort of telepathic genius if, after reading only a "few" other posts, you have sussed that all the other posts here contain nothing but pain, anger, jealousy, distortion and outright lies.
I suggest you get your savvy, analytical ass post- haste to Brooklyn, as the writing department is in dire need of someone such as yourself.
