i am wondering what the general concensus of this board would be?.
This has the potential to be an interesting and informative topic but we can already see attempts to drag it down.

I find Prisca condescending and hostile at best. If she can post her vitriol, then why is any attempt to refute her considered "dragging" things down?

It is very noteable that Americans take any type of criticism of their country so personally. I think that is one thing that makes these sorts of subjects difficult to discuss - the inability of Americans to look at themselves objectively
Gee, that's so true. ALL Americans lack the abiilty to look at themselves objectively. And we ALL take criticism of our country "so" personally. Yup. A very intelligent, sound, objective and rational thought. Thanks ever so much for enlightening me. I've only just been living here for 47 years; I can't possibly have the "handle" on the reality of the situation in the US the way you do, living in another part of the world. . I'm so glad you, an outsider blessed with extraordinary skills of obervation and perception, has been so kind as to share (with unobjective little American me) the insight on my fellow countrywomen and men that I so obviously lack....
With such incendiary statements such as the one quote aboved, are you at all surprised that these "sorts of subjects" are difficult to discuss?

i just know brummie will be here with me on this one, but wasn't the eighties pop music just the best (maybe i'm getting old here at 32) but hey, bring back wham!

I think we all tend to favor the music that was popular during our teens especially.
I worked as a research associate for a radio/music research firm in the 80s. This is absolutely true. For the rest of their lives, people tend to favor the music they "grew up" with.

this small group is located in tuscon, arizona.
some of the members, fearing reprisals (disfellowshipping), choose anonymity.
most have reached this stage in their lives thanks to the internet and forums like ours.
Is it inappropriate to ask the girls how they were dressed? If a particular person were known to dress provocatively, is that not a factor to consider?
This had to be asked?
Will women ever stop being blamed for a man's inability to censor his actions.? And I can't think of any six year old girls who dress provocatively. Maybe I'm just naieve.

I was going to respond to these posts, but as I was typing I realized that not a thing I would write would change any one's opinions on Americans. People believe what they want to believe. It simply no longer matters to me if someone dislikes Americans or even me. Flame away, bomb away....whatever. I'm me, I'm American, and I'm so glad for those two things.

during my childhood growing up jw while in grammar school saluting the flag or reciting the pledge of allegiance was practice every morning in our classrooms.
before the begining of every school year my mother would have a talk with my new teachers about our religious beliefs and practices.
i detested this i wanted to recite the pledge just like my classmates and sing the star spangled banner outloud.
Actually, many years before I'd even heard of a JW, I stopped saluting the flag. I could not, in good conscience, make such a pledge. And that has not changed.
