Mystery...excellent points. You make the whole JW experience sound as ludicrous as....well, it actually is.

......those few men in their ivory tower in ny have taken it away.
we're not even allowed to think for ourselves.
what are your thoughts on this?

.
do you think that at least one active person on this board is working for the watchtower and trying desperately to get information on people here?
do you know who you can really trust on this site, or is everyone a potential watchtower spy?
I guess some here have to care, in that they may have family members still in.
I have the "luxury" of not having to give a damn.

after perusing the various "freedom of speech" threads, i noted that anti-semitism is prohibited here, as (i imagine, by logical extension) would be anti-black, anti-latino, etc.
statements.
as well these things should be.
This post was a big mistake. I was honestly just trying to figure out why some groups are considered fair targets for prejudicial statements, while others are not....
Sorry, everyone.

Teeny, I appreciate your comments but oh, gosh, this was not how I expected this to evolve. I'm honestly trying to figure out why it's okay to call one type of ethnic group "ignorant" but not another.
I guess I should have used a different example. So let me try this again.
Were I to post something like, "All Brits are idiots", the comment would not have been deleted (but I'd have been blasted, and would have deserved it), but if I were to post, "All blacks are idiots", I think that might have been deleted.
I have my suspicions about why there is a taboo against certain kinds of statements about certain ethnic groups, but I wanted to learn why others think this is.

When people say negative things about our country they are not saying all of what this country do is bad.
Thanks. I do realize this. But sometimes persons absolutely DO make just plain out prejudicial statements about Americans. Not the US government. About Americans as individuals.
Don't get me wrong, I generally don't mind. I just can't understand why it is not considered racist to state that all Americans are, say, hypocrites, but it would be considered racist if someone said all Jewish persons were hypocrites.
Does anyone get my point? I guess, once again, my lack of eloquence and logic is shining through.
It's not all that important, anyway. I just wanted to understand why.

You are comparing definite prejudices relating to race (jew, black, hispanic) to criticism of a countries foreign policy.
Yes, this is true. Thanks for pointing that out. But there have been statements made that ALL Americans are such and such. This apart from any attached political sentiments. This would appear to me, at least superficially, to be a prejudicial statement based on someone's nationality. An accident of birth.
I'm not trying to start any arguments, I just need to read all the comments and then think about it.
Thanks, every one.

So how is it fair to allow inflammatory anti-American sentiments be expressed? I'm really trying to reason this out. The only thing I can come up with (other than the fact is is so "in vogue" to trash Americans) is that some have the perception that "we" (Americans) created the situations we find ourselves in, while Jews and others are innocent victims.
I would really love to hear your thoughts.

i'm in the middle of a heartbreaking moment and don't know who to ask or turn to.. i've been in a relationship for 7 years.
most of it was long distance, but we still communicated through emails and phone calls and planned to visit each other until we could come together again.
he left for new york last year and said he would try to start his own business and i would then plan on moving to be with him when we both finished school.
Nicky, my heart goes out to you.
I know this feels terrible right now, but I am sure you will meet someone who will truly love you for what and who you are.
I never thought I would after my husband left, but I have found someone a million times better. I am certain you will too.

why do the witnesses go 2 by 2 when they knock at doors?
is that what's really in the bible?
and why do elders come and see inactive ones 2 by 2 also.
understand why there may be some valid reasons for the 2x2 method, and also that Jesus sent his followers out that way, but it does create a certain atmosphere that is not conducive to real openness in some situations.
This is absolutely true. There were many times I would have handled a situation differently if I had been alone and free to say what I wanted.
