Does anyone remember the first episode that the borg were introduced on Star Trek the Next Generation?

by hoodwinked ingidday to all you "apostates"....or should i say "truth-seekers" on j-w.com .
i have been "lurking" on this board for about 3 months and i finally feel ready to say something about the situation that i am in right now.
it's rather tenuous because i was recently baptised <1yr ago.

What Double Standards Do JW's Practice?
by minimus inone double standard that always got to me was how a body of elders would talk about how a brother needed to "qualify" for some privilege by being a good example for weekend service and yet a number of elders would hardly ever go out in field service at all!
or how they would use 2 hours to literally gossip about everyone in the congregation, and then give a local needs talk on the need of not talking about the brothers and minding our own business.........what double standards got to you?

There are many, but one that I could not understand was the WTBS telling us not to go to college or University while they were paying for som JW's to goto a University law school to defend their policies?
Try figure that one out!!!!!

What Was The 1st Thing That Made You Question?

but anytime you ask a question that is unanswerable, you are told to just wait on jehovah.
as time passes, i believe that we store up a number of unanswerable questions that forces one to eventually think about everything.

The 1914 date. I would ask elders and CO's about the date and never got straight answers. I once made a "respected" elder admit that if armagedon did not occur before the year 2000, that the prophecy would be incorrect. Obviously it was.

by minimus ini have read many opinions about jw's being a cult.a dictionary describes cult as a system of religious beliefs and ritual .. some have viewed even major religions as a cult, such as the roman catholic church.based upon webster almost anybody or anything that is viewed as ritualistic could be said to be cultic.when someone tries to negate jehovah's witnesses by using.
the "cult" word, i believe they are not seeing that many others could legitimately be regarded as a cult or at least "cultic".therefore the word loses alot of meaning.
some have said that the watchtower is a cult because of the control factor.

I had an argument with my father on this very topic. He is innactive and disapproves of many aspects of the JW's thinking and doctirnes. He thinks he's out, but mentally he is not.
I tried to explain to him that the JW's are not just another religion, like he thinks, but a cult. He then replies: " all religions are cults".
I then explained to him that he is partly correct. Almost all religions that I know have some "cult like tendancies". But some like the JW's have gone beyond some "cult like tendancies" and have allowed the religious aspect of their teachings to be ungulfed in cult attributes.
There are also different levels of cults of mind control groups. From low level, like Catholics, Protestants, etc. to medium and high level like the Branch Davidians.
I used the Catholics as an example with him to compare to JW's, because he grew up a Catholic and can't stand them.
I asked him: "When you became a JW, did your Catholic family shun or abandon you? NO.
"Did they listen to all of your preaching and not judge you?" YES.
Thats the difference between a cult and a religion.
There are many other examples.
He did'nt have much to say after that.

when i was growing up in a jw family, we never had the opportunity to get "second opinions" on any doubts we had from any source.. luckly, with resources such as this website, and others like it, i have been able to make one of the most important discisions in my life, and that is how to bring up my kids spiritually and mentally?
i had to be 100% sure, in my mind, that i was doing the right thing.. i hope others who we all know that are searching for thier "answers" will be as fortunate as many of us here.

I was talking about the same subject on another thread.
Its called: Would you throw a pebble at a boulder? Talking about how to break through to a "mind trapped" JW.
I said:
I think the best pebble's you can throw is by succeding in your personal and/or family life without the borg. They expect you to completly fall apart without their guidance, and when you show that you are stable without them it starts to put doubts in their minds.

The 2/3 vote thing really got me angry. Here I was told that all these descisions were inspired from God, and in reality it was just a bunch of "upper level mangers" having a board meeting and voting on peoples lives! It just made me sick.

when i was growing up in a jw family, we never had the opportunity to get "second opinions" on any doubts we had from any source.. luckly, with resources such as this website, and others like it, i have been able to make one of the most important discisions in my life, and that is how to bring up my kids spiritually and mentally?
i had to be 100% sure, in my mind, that i was doing the right thing.. i hope others who we all know that are searching for thier "answers" will be as fortunate as many of us here.

I was raised a JW as you can see from my previous post. At some point I may post my story, but I am happy to talk about certain parts for now.
I am very sorry to here about you and your father, and the sad thing is its so common and typical as a JW story.
We were very lucky to be one of the few families in our hall not affected by child abuse. I think people were scared my father would "castrate" them if they got caught fooling with any of us kids, so we were left alone.
Im glad you have "moved on" from this abuse.

You have found the "real" truth, great, I hope your right, and it works for you.
I am still searching, and do not expect to find it soon. I think the "real" truth is a very difficult thing to positively identify. "Give me a sign, God dam* it". (sorry for the curse, but it is frustrating).
