  Anyone watching Canadian IDOL?

  since i'm canadian, i'm afraid to say how good the singers have been as compared to american idol...it's almost boring because of it...do you know what i mean?

  i couldn't stand the canadian judges at first but now they've settled in to their grove and are much kinder...at first it was like 4 wannabee simons.

  there is only one simon.

  ok, i won't give his name, but he is a major with an engineer unit in iraq.

  Thank you for sharing that letter. I have friends over there as well and am hearing about the same from them (variations on the theme). These guys have my respect because they are in the thick of it. It is very easy for some to sit back and play armchair general getting their information second or third-hand. What is sent back in letters carries more weight with me than a reporter trying to sell news. These guys deserve our respect and support.
  
  In my honest opinion if a person is going to accuse these citizen soldiers of spreading propaganda they should either go there and see first hand what is happening or swear the oath and serve. Otherwise it is just an informed guess like everyone elses sitting here out of harms way.

  for the last 20 years of my association with the jws, i was, more or less, a hypocrite.

  they taught things i didn't believe, but i went to the meetings and, by my presence there and by my "non-answers" i in essence supported something that i didn't believe.. it's a hard thing to say "i was a hypocrite.".

  We could all have been called hypocrites at some point or another in da truff. The willingness to shun or mark a person based on what others said and yet claim to be called true christians is the easiest to point out as the habits of a hypocrite.
  
  I was a hypocrite when I was a member, for that and other things.

  i've only learned the truth about this society over the last 5 months or so, so i'm not sure what the difference is to say - 2 years ago.

  do you think the society will now get even more cultish in it's methods of teaching and more heavy handed if they feel things are slipping?

  i don't feel i'm being over the top here because i've experienced very heavy handed talks at the assemblies and kingdom hall in the past that are just plain scare tactics but this just makes people ask more questions ??

  since then, i've thought many times of a friend who had da'd herself about 4 years ago.

  a few weeks after she'd da'd herself we passed in a bathroom at a local store.

  Do you get yearly visits from the elders?

  my sister just got a visit from the elders.

  this was the first visit in 10 years.

  an inactive friend told me they are supposed to visit every year.

  As a rough estimate of my worth to them might be directly proportionate to the number of yearly visits by the elders.
  
  Having said that I haven't had a visit in just shy of 12 years. Therefore my worth to them must be a big fat ZERO. Somehow that brings a smile to my face.
