Oh my gosh, new light? the morning dawning, again? Perhaps a few commas needed changing? A new cover?. As WTS is the biggest printing company in the world, if each JW bought even one Bible, how much money is that for the first printing run? What if people could download their WT for 10c? WTS existence depends on their printing presses and their capital wealth from properties. So sad how we were duped into accepting this changing light.

Does being a "born in" blur parental vs JW issues?
by obfuscatetheobvious inthank you to the many people who have posted their experiences and advice on this site!
i have browsed a few topics but the threads that i seem to gravitate to the most deal with family.
there is certainly a lot that i can relate to in many of the anecdotes i have read.

Growing up in the JWs and now nearly 65 and looking back, I do feel that there is huge pressure on parents, to be seen to be a "good family" despite the pressures, but particularly the husband to "manage" his family properly or theocratically, whatever that is. Ie that is used as to whether he is fit to be a servant, elder. . hence my father who abused us children with beatings, kickings, punching, for "discipline" etc. always warned us "never to talk out of the house" or he would smash us. He had to keep face at all times. Of course there will always be mother/daughter, son/father, and sibling issues that need resolving as part of growing up and as the frontal lobe develops, but being a JW exacerbates these and complicates the dynamics because you have (1) underlying value system and (2) an outward control system. When I had my last beating from my father for being rude to my other at nearly 18, he was kicking me under the bed, and I though I was going to die, so I climbed out ,stood in his face and said if he touched me again I would go to the Elders and take him to Court. He never touched me again. With the passing of time, I actually felt sorry for my parents in their chains having to keep up apperances.

Why dont Jehovahs Witnesses target the Muslim religion as they do Catholics and the protestant religions
by smiddy ino.k.
fair enough they do not have the same freedom to go from door to door in muslim lands , and of course their are so few of them their to make any impact with their incidental witnessing .. however with modern day technology ,the internet , blogs ,tweets ,social media , etc, etc.
they could saturate /flood these countrys with their brand of " truth" if they were serious about it .. the fact that they dont, : means they are not serious about spreading the good news of the kingdom in all the earth , making jehovahs name known in all the earth , or witnessing to everybody on earth so they can have opportunity to gain salvation .. or are they afraid of what the muslims will do to them in retalliation .. smiddy.

WT August 15, 2013 QFR - Sitting next to a disfellowshipped child at meetings
by Designer Stubble inpage 8 of the latest wt (insider version) has a whole page dedicated to the question whether it is appropriate to sit next to a disfellowshipped child at meetings.. not sure how to paste this in, but check jw.org.
perhaps someone can do this for me.. horrible, no words really on how pharisee like their cult grip and control has become!.
first of all, without any shame they are talking about disfellowshipped minors.

Steve2, Couldn't agree more. My sister was baptised at 13 along with all her girl friends. I was too. She left her husband and had an affair with a married man and then started living with him, along with smoking and drinking. She and my mother pleaded with the elders that she was not in a fit state of mind when she was baptized (too young and the frontal lobe not well enough developed) and her baptism was declared invalid, (is that like the Pope declaring a marriage Annulment ?) - so she was able to associate with JWs as she pleased. This reminds me of Islamic law on theft. If you steal something and take it through a door, you get your hand cut off. If you break, enter and steal but throw it out through a window to a waiting friend, nothing will happen! I was very happy for her that she could still be with the family. We should all plead insanity to save DF. It is the Decree of the elders that stops people associating with you, not what you have done or not done.

Apologies to all for lack of personal introduction. Had difficulties with site and totally ignorant of process. Am also orignally from Holland, 3rd generation JW. Large family, all others are still JW. My transition (finally DF) started from reading the Watchtower Produced Byington's Bible - they printed this because it actually had Jehovah's name in the New Testament (and no doubt to make more money). When I was reading this, I came across the word "Grace" and didn't understand it, the parallel 'undeserved kindness' in NW translation did not seem adequate. One question led to another. We tried to resign, but because our former position in Bethel, husband being the current Presiding Overseer, on board of Watchtower printing etc. we were given "six months to think about it". Tempting in view of the stress we were under, but declined their offer. We were then DF without a meeting with anyone. Quite amazing. The road has been hard but wonderful at the same time. So thankful that as parents we have not put our children into the religious brainwashing straight jacket. Wish you well Newby, you will get plenty of support.

My Family's Bible Student History
by designs inrecently my cousin on my mother's mcconnell side of the family stopped by for a visit and brought several boxs of photos and memorabilia and family bibles.
two of the bibles are very worn and contain many hand written notes from my grandfather, grandmother and uncle who were bible students and then jws.. leafing through the pages of one bible this morning i came across something i had never seen- a jw calling card, a business card size.
it says 'one of jehovah"s witnesses' second line 'preaching the kingdom of jehovah our god' the capitals and lower case words were interesting in how they saw things after 1931.. there are photos of russell, knorr with van amberg (who stayed with my grandparents on visits to california), knorr with a fellow taller than knorr who looks like chairman mao (anyone have a guess who that might be).

Most interesting to see how "history" gets rewritten and sanitised. I believe the Egyptians did it as well. We have a 1874 volume of the Watchtower, the first Russell ever printed. Amazing how it reflected the times and the beliefs of those days. 1914 in those Watchtowers was calculated from various measurements from Egyptian pyramids! Another comment was made about how many waking paces from Grand Central Station. 1914 was to be Armageddon, The new Jerusalem to be established and all the jews would be restored to their homeland. What is truth?

The only favourite meal was fried corn fritters for breakfast made by Joy Madzay. Excellent apple pie by Madge Dunham. Dear Lady. I still make the fritters. The worst were donated Jerusalem artichokes for a soup (sludge). Must have been all off as were the donated peanuts, tasted of fungus.

What Should Be The Attitude Toward Opposers Who Encourage Jehovah's Witnesses To Read Apostate Material?

A loaded question - Who or what is an opposer? Someone who has done their homework from 1874 and seen all the travesties of injustice and double think and rethick by the Org. Knowledge is only that. What you do about it, is the Problem. Attitude?. What is one frightened of? Is someone's faith too weak to listen, hear, see other points of view? Where were "jehovah's people" from 100 AD until 1874 (actually 1844 - associated with the Seventh Day adventists).

Do any of the Aussies remember Dave Madzay?
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. inhe was one of the chiefs at the australian bethel during the late 70's early 80's.
i used to enjoy his talks at assemblies - he had something special about him.
he was dfd (supposedly for apostasy).

Apologies for late entry. Only recently found out Dave Madzay died. Was close to him and Joy. I was in Bethel while he was there and wondered what happened to Joy. Looking back, I wondered whether Dave had bipolar? I know he was very upset after a short stint in Brooklyn at what he saw going on there with drunkenness and homosexuality and the banning of small groups of Brooklyn Bethelites studying the the Bible on their own. Does anyone know when/where he was buried?.
