Yes, that's true but regular women don't have elders to go to. They don't run to men in authority and risk the other person being kicked out of their community for oral sex/watching porn/listening to questionable music/getting drunk/ looking up forums like this on the net etc.
I'm not saying the scenarios are unique, just that some will use anything they can to control and the dubs use the scripture, often inconsistantly, for that control.

But I have been remembering how I knew sisters who used the bible as a vice around their husband's neck.
I think the bible has been used by both men and women equally in power, yet in different ways, to control and manipulate people.

i attended a notorious congregation as a child, the infamous winter gardens congregation!
my cousin and his best friend, both named joe, were elders, my cousin was the po and the other joe was a total loser suck up who wanted to be just like my cousin, joe.
what was even funnier, as i get off point a bit, is that "suck up" joe's wife, cathy, did everything she could do to get her pudgy lil self to dress, look, walk, and talk like my cousin joe's wife, clementine.

i went to my parents' place for supper yesterday.
as usual, i got on the subject of the society.
my mother told me that she talked to a friend of hers about the un thing, and her friend knew about it.

but then they'll come across something unusual.. right now i'm listening to "kenny rogers - ten years of gold".
my parents had this album, and i loved it.
Various.....................being Italian growing up in Australia I was lucky enough to have a culturally diverse environment to grow up in.
So I went from listening to Bobby Darren/Dean Martin/Mario Lanza/Doris Day/The Deltones/Italian pop and country music compiles as a kid to.......................
etc, etc, etc.......................my collection has become healthier since leaving the borg.
