When will people realise that the accepted western identities that polarise male and female are constructs? Nail varnish and dollies do not make sensitive people.

The Feminization of Boys..is it acceptable?
by Brummie innothing to do with jws but i thought it interesting anyway: .
the feminization of boysafter viewing 20/20's piece entitled, "a gender straitjacket", i have come to the conclusion that the mass leftist media needs a "sensitivity muzzle" when it comes to the feminization of the male gender.
a 15 minutes segment, filled with a quack named william pollack, telling me that 2 year old boys who paint their nails and play with barbie dolls is a normal thing, was more than my paunch could handle.

Any old friends aboard from the MTS?
by pascaljon ini've been lurking on the fringes of this site for a week or two and was just wondering whether there is anybody else here that i knew from the ministerial training school.
i was second to apostasise from my class (that being the fifth in britain, 1992) and thought it would be good to know if anybody else was here.
also, while i'm at it, if there's anybody with a connection to norwich thorpe congregation or with information on sarah brett it would be good to hear from you too.

No Shanks isn't gay (yeah right!) but he was the CO that appointed me as an elder.

Yes I was at John's wedding. And upon reflection can just about remember you through that alcoholic fug! John's whole family has an unorthodox take on their beliefs. Guess the money helped. My brother's married to his sister Alice (no, I'm not a Jackson, thank god!).
All the defected MTS guys are famous. Gay or Mormon. Was Ian Shanks in your class?

Aha, so you're the infamous MTS graduate that became a Mormon! I was a friend of your partner John G. He's in Bournemouth and comfortably married but still an elder, albeit in his owm inimitable style.

Did you know anyone who commited suicide in the org?
by JH inback in 1991, a young brother maybe 18 years old living next to my place committed suicide.
his father expected him to be very zealous just like he was, but the son never wanted to be like that.
he was always controlled by his father.

I know of many suicides amongst Witnesses, 2 of whom were close friends. Of these I cannot say that being a Witness exacerbated their depression, that they were treated callously or that they weren't encouraged to accept proffesional help. They were profoundly ill and extremely intent.
In the 3 years I've been at University there have been more than a dozen suicides amongst the student population which seems a higher rate than amongst the Witnesses.
Perhaps we should keep in mind the fact that when the press report the details of suicides there can be a rise in the number of copycat incidents. The number of suicides amongst Witnesses may be of some interest but the means is irrelevant to this thread.

A couple of years ago the ICOC had some rather bad press in our student paper as a cult preying on vulnerable students. This of course intrigued me and I went along to their Sunday service. Whoa! It was just like being back in the KH, although more intense. Their study programme is 10 consecutive days after which you are free to decide. They were clean cut, over friendly (but no more so than JWs) and a good cross section of age, race and economic.
They have this arrangement that, were the JWs to practise it would destroy them. They meet in small groups and discuss areas in which each other are failing to live up to their faith. Can you imagine the pressure?!
What did impress me was that the guy who engaged me in conversation had the bible on palm pilot and at least 2 translations! I declined to give them my tel. no., address or email, but they were damned persistant.

What do you think of Baha'i Faith?
by Eyebrow2 injust a little curious....i had gone to one of the websites i found by searching baha'i faith online.. i found a site that wrote on 9/12/01 saying:.
the destruction of the trade towers and the attack on the pentagon and its related events should be considered a terrible warning for the safety, security and salvation of humankind.. the second international baha'i council condemns the use of terrorism and violence as a means of change, but we have tried to warn the people of new york for years of these coming disasters, accurately predicting on national television the first act of terrorism against the trade towers in february of 1993. these acts of horrific destruction are only the beginning if the governments and peoples of the world do not submit to the authority of god and his messengers and their clear and evident proofs.. what is up with that???
i know nothing really about it so i figured i would pose the question on this board: is this religion a bit fanatical?

I can't speak of their doctrines but can say that the temple and gardens of their HQ in Haifa, Israel are beautiful. I seem to recall there being some notion that when their landscaping went from the temple to the Med, that the End would come. It was halfway there in '94!

New experience for me..advice, anyone?
by zanex ini have been out of touch with pretty much all of the old jw's that i used to hang around with while in new mexico.
i have been informed that one of those jw's that oddly enough happens to be related to my roommate that i am currently living with is coming to town and i have also been told that he is trying to leave the org and doesnt want to be any part of it anymore but he still has a lot of family in the religion...another twist anyone?
oh yeah he also is "coming out" he is gay.

I might be wrong, but...
If this guy is telling people he's gay then he's ready to leave and is unlikely to be struck with pangs of conscience and if he's leaving the borg 10 years after you then he's probably more afraid of the 'world' too and needs a friendly face.
When I left, I was thankful that I had on old friend who could relate to the departure process. The difference was, she contacted me, not me her.

I was a Prince fan (way before he got sucked in by Larry Whatshisname) and when I saw him live I realised that this was better than the Second Coming. A few months later I had a "spiritual spell" (probably depression), wrapped up my prized CD collection, cycled halfway across Scotland's largest suspension bridge and dropped the parcel into the middle of the shipping lane. I bought his subsequent albums, listened to them once, then binned them in case they drew me back in to my dirty obsession.
Ironically, me and my pals used to discuss what the Kingdom Songs would be like penned by our Purple Saviour. Now I know and wish he'd stuck to singing about sex.

Did you cheat on your monthly report?
by JH ini was always honest with my field service reports, until the time when an elder came over to give me hell because i had only 1 hour that month in the field service.
i told him that i was working 50 hours a week, had a 4 day district convention that month and couldn't do miracles that month.
he never accepted my explanation.. .

My 2 years of pioneering exist only on paper. Those 2000 hours probably equate with 20 real hours, the rest was spent drinking coffee, touring the countryside, going to art exhibitions and the cinema. Pioneering epitomised the slacker lifestyle for me.
