  i was intrigued by another posters post about how the crusades were in response to the muslims invading the western world... so i had to do my own research to see if this was actually true.. as it turns out, the muslims have a habit of trying to take over the world.

  We are in a time where we have a choice, we can try to rationalize this historical aggression (by their own leaders admission) away and start appeasements, and face a thousand years of darkness, or we can make the choice to stand up to this ongoing threat that will send us back to the 9 th century, if we loose.

  Ah, the eschatalogical majority speaks! How do you propose to stop this incredible threat to the Christian West?

  Mary, while I don't agree with Abaddon calling you names, your quotes from Khomeni aren't enough of a reason to negate all aspects of Islam. Have you spoken to many Muslim women about the issues you raise?

  Yesterday I just finished reading Malise Ruthven's book titled Fundamentalism, published last month and he doesn't comment on any particular Americanisation of the term. The origins of the term are found in West Coast Christian American tracts of the 1920s, by Christian who believed in the fundamentals of the inerrant word of God as found in the Old and New Testaments.

  What are the Australian definitions of "fundamental" and "evangelical"?

  Surley it is possible for a religion to be both fundamentalist and evangelical, they're not mutually exclusive. The JWs are fundamentalist in their acceptance of the Bible as the inerrant (not literal) word of God, and they're also evangelical. They're not the only Christian religion to share these qualities.

  7th day psychos!!

  today, saturday i figured i'd take a little run to the adventist church to see how similiar they are to the witnesses.

  after talking with them i just had to run to the computer, asap.. after the service, people started walking out.

  i felt like walking out too b/c there was a lot of old people and they were kind of cliqueish.

  Boy@

  You should try the Church of Christ, they're like the witnesses too. I paid them a visit and it was so wierd to recieve the same treatment that i had given to visitors to the KH. They sat beside me, shared their bible, and afterward engaged me in a instructive conversation. They had bibles of palmpilots and I was kindof impressed by that. But it was eerie how Witness-like they were.

  I'm surprised that you haven't expressed sympathy for all Hindu women because of the minority that perform sati. I think the point that Abaddon is trying to make to you is that you cannot lump all Muslims together as holding identical beliefs/values. Neither can you entirely blame what we perceive as the negative values of Middle Eastern culture solely upon Islam as some practices predate Muhammed.

  Nobody is disputing that currently, under some Islamic regimes, women have a terrible ordeal along with homosexuals, non muslim residents etc.

  While the hijab can most often be read as a sign of a patriarchal culture, it can also become an emblem of resistance against modernity. Veiled Algerian women fight for independence from France, and when Egyptian girls who wear the hijab are relesed from parental authority as they are acknowledging Allah as their father, therefore allowing them greater freedom of movement in society.

  I have a problem with the labelling of Islam as inherrently evil as four of my neighbours are adherents of Islam and while they all follow it to varying degrees, they are all friendly and part of our community. Tarring all Muslims as Islamist is like tarring all Christian as pro-life killers of abortionists.

  so there i was, slaving away in a customers front garden, cutting fascias and guttering to size prior to affixing them to his home.

  like all window and gutter fixers, my clothes are covered with a hundred finger marks where i have used my forefinger to point in the mastic and then just wiped it on the nearest thing to hand, ie, me.

  i look like i have been the victim of a 1000 seagull bomber raid.

  Your mistake was revealing that they were your parents. She'll have assumed you were raised a dub and subsequently rejected it making you either an apostate or close to it and this legitimises her snappy and unpleasant response. If you'd pretended to never had much contact with dubs, she'd have been drawn in to conversation a little further before pivoting on her well heeled shoe. Be the Trojan Horse next time.
