Yes, I know of two Witnesses who left to join the LDS and have subsequently moved on from that too. They weren't complete mugs...

I don't like getting utterly monged-out.
Do we believe him?

I quit too despite them trying to persuade me to take a break. They did ask for it in writing but I said I felt the words were enough.

Assuming you were watching BBC, the Irish voice over is none other than Terry Wogan, a national institution.
Quite a year for Greece, the World Cup, the Olympics and now this. We thought Switzerland's rock chicks should have won, although Israel's entry was the best looking and, surprisingly, a real woman.

When do you tell them------------
by vitty inive been fading for a year, we moved, so i am starting to make new friends (still feels a bit strange) anyway, when or if do you tell them you belonged to a religious cult, in my case over 20 years.
should i bother, is it more important to me than them.
will they think im wierd if i do tell them, or if ive been friends for a long time, will they think it strange i never mentioned it.

You tell them whenever you want. It's really not a big deal. Everyone has some sh*t in their lives.

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?
by lucky ini'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

While I agree with Hesse, Dostoyevsky, Garcia Marquez & Harper Lee as though provoking novelists, the most for me was The World in the Evening by Christopher Isherwood. I read it while travelling in California and identified with the main character so strongly at the time that it hurt. I remember being in Yosemite feeling completely overwhelmed and unable to tell the Witness friends I was with because it meant telling them the deep dark secret about my sexuality. Took me 10 more years to tell them.
Have to add Sunset Song by Lewis Grassic Gibbon but unless you're Scottish it's unlikely you'll have heard of it.

JWs and breastfeeding past infancy
by rebel8 inmy jw mother breastfed my sibs so long they remember it.
one she stopped feeding when she went to kingergarten; i kid you not.
my mother justified it by saying moses' mother breastfed him until whatever age and the bible encourages it.

when we see something that goes beyond what we are used to, we tend to react to it.
It's just a shame that the reaction has to be one of disgust.

Children of the 80's!
by MelbaToast inalright, i admit, i was a child of the 80s (or what i can remember) but the real reason for this thread is i have noticed that there is quite a few of people on this site that are close to me in age or just a little bit younger or older.
i will be 28 in june.
i think that this period in my life is a deep questioning period, because at younger ages i didnt give a flip about anything jw or ex-jw for that matter.

For a long time I thought that TV wouldn't get better than Dangermouse but then along came Willo the Wisp! I have it on DVD and it's fabulous.
The Witness kids here didn't go rollerblading, we went ice skating on Friday nights. It meant we could hold hands. Then some youg punk of a brother got involved in a fight and was discovered to be carrying a knife - ice skating became BAAAD.

What's the best way to FADE away from the JW's?
by JH inwhat do you think is the best way to fade away from the jw org, without being df'd and without being bothered by them?.
just stop going and not answer their calls?.
change congregation, and never show up?.

Stopping seems to immerse you in trauma but ultimately moves your life on. Fading seems to result in prolonged angst and doesn't guarantee you'll avoid that trauma.
I've watched my sister-in-law fade for 6 years and it's like watching someone with a degenerative terminal illness as they withdraw into themselves. I opted for the cardiac arrest.
