Well, the most dire funerals i've been to have been held by other faiths. A neighbour died recently and the family produced a card that had details of her life. the minster introduced the hymns then said that the card described her better then he ever could and gave us 5 mins to read it before closing. cold, unfeeling and without a sense of occasion? you bet ya!

Just another meeting - the lack of "occasion" and "grief" at JW funeral
by truthseeker ini recently attended the witness funeral of a sister who lost her mother.
she lived to a good age.. most of the congregation were there.. if the truth be told, it was one of the most disrespectful funerals i have ever been too.
no one did anything wrong, but everyone was happy - a little too happy.. it was just another meeting to the dubs who attended.

most disturbing movie scene you've seen?
by knock knock ini haven't seen this topic on here so i thought i'd.... hmmm, maybe it's because it's just too disturbing?
to me, the scene in saving private ryan - the two soldiers in the small upstairs room fighting hand to hand to the death (by stabbing).
i think that is the most disturbing thing i've seen on screen and there were plenty just in that film alone.

Dennis sniffing gas in Blue Velvet is delightfully freaky. So simple.
Funny Games by Michael Haneke has a multitude of disturbing scenes where the horror takes place off camera but you see the impact it had on those that witness it. (and I mean the original, not the remake)

Well I finally resigned as an elder - Phew.
by The Scotsman inthats right, about 2 weeks ago i confronted the po and told him i just could not do it anymore.. i genuinely have been under alot of pressure recently with my work so i used this as the pitch.
he was not happy but i received little resistance, which suited me.
i handed him my letter last week before i went on holiday.. i have to say it is a great weight off my shoulders, no book study, meetings for ministry, talks, public talks etc etc.. i will no doubt be the subject of local congregation gossip!

homosexuals and JWs
by solidergirl ini have no problem being around gay people.
but bring it up a car group and omg its like the number 1 sin in the world.
it got to point where i wanted to stand up for them.

I don't find the current WT stance on homosexuality to be particularly hatefilled, in fact if i recall correctly it was sympathetic in a WT kind of way - pitying. In fact I recall the delighted response of one gayJW messageboard I read. Nonetheless I think that the view that homosexuality is a sin legitamises some of the members' hate for homosexuals.
While some of my family wont associate at all with me they have as their best friend a gay, but celibate, JW who spent a number of years out (Sept 11th brought him back, ugh!). Witnesses are often pretty far behind the times on social issues (understatement) and while I don't ever imagine they'll change their view on homosexuality I think that car groups will become less inclined to spout hate as more gay witnesses come out.

Not sure I like The Scotsman posting such fluff. people might think it's me and think i've become a lightweight. As long as you keep it gay that's fine.

The International Festival is scheduled to take place in August as usual. The film festival's rescheduled to June but it's small.
And I'll turn up if there's food and booze involved (and an opportunity to meet Crumpet) I had lunch in the Witchery on Saturday, good but not fabulous enough for me darling. edited to add: Glasgow is the centre of the universe like a black hole is. -

List Reasons Why YOU Would NEVER Go Back To The "Truth"
by minimus ini recently saw my jw brother and sil and listened to them talk about poor sister sick(o) who has been diagnosed with major mental problems.
she went to the doctor's and the doctor supposedly began to berate her out of the blue because she is a jehovah's witness.
now the family wants to have the doctor formally rebuked for his so called "discriminatory comments".
