I can't speak of their doctrines but can say that the temple and gardens of their HQ in Haifa, Israel are beautiful. I seem to recall there being some notion that when their landscaping went from the temple to the Med, that the End would come. It was halfway there in '94!

What do you think of Baha'i Faith?
by Eyebrow2 injust a little curious....i had gone to one of the websites i found by searching baha'i faith online.. i found a site that wrote on 9/12/01 saying:.
the destruction of the trade towers and the attack on the pentagon and its related events should be considered a terrible warning for the safety, security and salvation of humankind.. the second international baha'i council condemns the use of terrorism and violence as a means of change, but we have tried to warn the people of new york for years of these coming disasters, accurately predicting on national television the first act of terrorism against the trade towers in february of 1993. these acts of horrific destruction are only the beginning if the governments and peoples of the world do not submit to the authority of god and his messengers and their clear and evident proofs.. what is up with that???
i know nothing really about it so i figured i would pose the question on this board: is this religion a bit fanatical?

New experience for me..advice, anyone?
by zanex ini have been out of touch with pretty much all of the old jw's that i used to hang around with while in new mexico.
i have been informed that one of those jw's that oddly enough happens to be related to my roommate that i am currently living with is coming to town and i have also been told that he is trying to leave the org and doesnt want to be any part of it anymore but he still has a lot of family in the religion...another twist anyone?
oh yeah he also is "coming out" he is gay.

I might be wrong, but...
If this guy is telling people he's gay then he's ready to leave and is unlikely to be struck with pangs of conscience and if he's leaving the borg 10 years after you then he's probably more afraid of the 'world' too and needs a friendly face.
When I left, I was thankful that I had on old friend who could relate to the departure process. The difference was, she contacted me, not me her.

I was a Prince fan (way before he got sucked in by Larry Whatshisname) and when I saw him live I realised that this was better than the Second Coming. A few months later I had a "spiritual spell" (probably depression), wrapped up my prized CD collection, cycled halfway across Scotland's largest suspension bridge and dropped the parcel into the middle of the shipping lane. I bought his subsequent albums, listened to them once, then binned them in case they drew me back in to my dirty obsession.
Ironically, me and my pals used to discuss what the Kingdom Songs would be like penned by our Purple Saviour. Now I know and wish he'd stuck to singing about sex.

Did you cheat on your monthly report?
by JH ini was always honest with my field service reports, until the time when an elder came over to give me hell because i had only 1 hour that month in the field service.
i told him that i was working 50 hours a week, had a 4 day district convention that month and couldn't do miracles that month.
he never accepted my explanation.. .

My 2 years of pioneering exist only on paper. Those 2000 hours probably equate with 20 real hours, the rest was spent drinking coffee, touring the countryside, going to art exhibitions and the cinema. Pioneering epitomised the slacker lifestyle for me.

Has anyone ever been surprised you were a dub?
by obiwan init's kinda funny i've had quite a few people that were amazed that i used to be a jw, some have even thought i was b/s them.
i guess after so many years i cover it up well.
has anyone else run into the same thing?

Even when I was a elder people were surprised when they found out I was a witness. I dressed in an thrift shop style - velvet jacket and flares - when they expected mormon suits or jesus sandals. thankfully i no longer feel the need to dress to confound preconceptions.
edited to add
on reflection my JWism was always perceived as exotic. And continues to be seen as an exotic part of my past.

Just popped my voting cherry.
by scotsman init's the local council and parliamentary elections in scotland today and i've voted for the first time.
the rain and voter apathy look harder to overcome than witness indoctrination as up to now the turn out seems low.. strangely, my jw family, despite their neutrality, are all keenly interested in how i vote.
i wonder if they could be persuaded to break the taboo.

To my glee, all my candidates succeeded! But to be honest, my choice was with those that I find least offensive rather than really believe in.

It was good, but maybe a post voting cigarette would have made it better.

Not stupid really.
My polling station was a church so I risk being in trouble for false worship or political bias! You could always tell your friends that you were suggesting voters vote for the Kingdom!

Tax question for any uk posters
by toddy in.
my mates last wage slip was different this month,he seems to be paying more tax than usual,so he went and asked the boss and was told that the whole country is on emergency tax at the moment so we are all paying more and should recieve a rebate in the future,he's been with the company for over 10 years so it's not as if he's a new employee who always start off on emergency tax.. iv'e never heard anything like this before?
is something dodgy going on

I run payroll for my staff and this part of the country certainly isn't on Emergency codes. It's more likely to do with the hike in Nat Ins which the war in Iraq nicely obscured.
