  Who here is shunned by family?

  remember the watchtower that asked "are jws a cult?

  " and then listed things that cleared it of the accusations of being such?

  cant remember the date.. anyway one of the things it said was that "cults" usually have a lot of ex members testifying against it and the damage it has caused to their family lives.

  I shunned my father his 8 yrs of being out...he could not even speak to me to tell me that my step brother committed suicide and I could not comfort him. Then he came back and I left. Now he shuns me. it has been 7 yrs now. I grew up virtually without a mother because she was 'weak in the faith'. Now she is 75 yrs old and THIS yr, she called me on the phone for the first time since 1985. I had nothing to do with my nephews until they were 10 yrs old. NO one else in my whole family will speak to me, even the ones who are not JWs--basically because they were against my not speaking to my father, and now they are with him in not speaking to me.

  JWs destroyed any hope of a normal family life before I was even born.

  And incidentally the JWs do not have a clue how to define a cult. it is easy as 1-2-3...

  1-ISOLATION(break any 'worldly' ties, or avoid any 'worldly' information)

  2-INSULATION(only social or informational link is to 'mothership')

  3-DEMONIZATION(us/them, and they are evil...)

  i've just been told that a po of a local congragation as well as being one of the anointed has been deleted of everything.

  this man gave talks at the coventions.

  was on stage at the assemblies to talk about how well he did with his family.

  My schizo father claims to be 'annointed' and has partaken since 1974, even thru 8 or so yrs of being disfellowshipped. You stay annointed until you are deemed apostate, at which time a replacement has been chosen. There is some question among rank and file tho as to WHEN you are deemed apostate, the more liberal ones allowing you to prove otherwise right up to your earthly death.

  My father is even now inactive and has been telling people he was in viet nam...ludicrous! he was in the Air force from 1953-1959 and got out to become a JW...but he is still going to Memorial and partaking.

  Elders want letter from my daughter!

  background: my unbaptized daughter married an unbaptized young man when they were both 18 years old.

  it didn't work out and 2 years later they divorced.. now it's 6 years later, (after the divorce), and my daughter never got baptized.

  her ex-husband did and is engaged to another dub.

  I know this has been said before, but I can't stress enough the fact that neither were baptised JWs when they were married and therefore what happened or has happened since is none of the elders' business. Even if the the X is now a baptized JW, that was taken care of when he got baptized and the slate is clean. If he decided to tell anyone anything it is his business. But I would under no circumstances give in to this crap. This is illegal and it is sexual harrassment and you would think the elders' would have been more careful in light of the sexual scandals being publicized right now. In fact if it were me, I would probably write a letter telling them just how much none of their business it is and then have it published in the local newspaper! Then I would see an attorney. This is so illegal and just flat out stupid! What do they do search out every x spouse and have them sign an affidavit of their current sexual activity? Why do they think they can bully your daughter around? Is she any different from anyone who is not and never has been a baptized JW? I think someone needs to let other people know this is how the JWs view others.

  Hey Gumby!

  I was removed as a regular pioneer after 15 yrs of never cheating on my time slip because of someone else gossiping about me! It was proven wrong but the elders felt that since it was common knowledge it made me an 'impure example' of pioneering. Also becoz I told them all what they could do with their ridiculous decisions, I was accused of being a 'Jezebel'. 4 months later a CO made them all apologize and told me I could re-apply. Too Late. I found the Internet.

  thank the Universe for jack ass men and their unjust decisions!

  my mom totally shuns my sister.

  she has for the last 10+ years.

  even though my mom treats my sister like she is dead she has always been given access to the grandkids.

  there is nothing wrong with drawing the line. every human has a right to establish boundaries and to insist they are respected. my mother has been inactive since 1985 and I have been totally out of the BORG since 1997. But only this year did she accept a xmas card from me. I consider it a tremendous victory. with my mother it was not that she was shunning anyone, but that she was afraid to admit that she left JWs herself back in 1985. she was afraid someone who she used to know might happen upon her one day and see her doing something unacceptable. it was difficult for her to stop fearing reprisals. she was just not the type to shun. my father now, he shuns me--which is fine with me becoz he is an insane SOB with or without JWs.

  how do you know it was demons? don't you think if it was some evil entity it would have done more than just scare you? perhaps you happen to be one of those people who have superkinetic powers. of course a J-dub would blame that as demonism too, but it is not demons. It is merely the power of our minds that is not yet tapped or understood. I am not saying you dont have a 'demon' after you, but in the Bible examples of demon attention it was generally much more dramatic and hurtful. if you believe in demons. I dont. But I do believe in spirit entities.

  Avishai--I don't recall Kate Bush's version, but it is possible I have heard it. I have a couple of Kate Bush albums that I have not looked at in about 10 years.....

  If I am not mistaken, brujeria means sorcery. However, the context of the lyrics is plain---the guy is so sexy he is 'magical' . I am surprised they are upset about the 'magical' words and not about the obvious references to sex! I guess my grandma will have to get rid of her old music-she loves 'Some ENCHANTED Evening' and 'That Old Black Magic' but of course she can keep her PlayGirl Magazines....
