If I only lived closer I'd gladly take another cockatiel.
I'm sure someone, somewhere will take a valuable addition to their day-to-day life.
Cockatiels are great!
Just as you mentioned about the 'aggressiveness' of your parent cockatiels, I knew right away, the chick, would be OK.
Their (cockatiels) instincts kicked-in.
The baby bird will be OK.
He/She (baby bird) will still need to be socialized. That's not a huge problem.
Good Luck, but I think 'nature' in this case has taken over. Baby bird will be fine.
The other eggs/potential birds, similarly.

APOSTAPETS!!!
by ohiocowboy ini thought it would be neat if we could see what each others canine, feline, avian, etc.companions look like.... .
here's my love, her name is chelsea, she is 9-1/2 years, and i have had her since she was 8 weeks old.
she is a golden lab mix, thus i affectionately call her "mutt butt" .

This is my little darling: Nimh.
She's a 6 year old cockatiel hen. She's a rescued bird. She has NO feet. But she gets by just fine. Animals, birds included adapt well. I love this little 'love-magnet'.
She's beside me now as I type, squeaking her displeasure that I am not paying more attention to her. Oops, she just pecked at my left handed type. There, she's got a little neck scratch.
This is Nimh. I'll get a better one of the little yellow tyrant: Baby (budgie) later on.

Poison oak cures?
by Sirius Dogma inhey all,.
yesterday while mountain biking i came down a trail way too fast, slid, slipt and slided of a cliff and flew like a winged monkey from the wizard of oz into a patch of poison oak.
both my forearms are covered from wrist to elbow with the stuff.

During a backyard wedding in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, I encountered Poison Oak for the first time.
I took off my sandals, walked around my friend's parent's huge yard. I walked through this stuff 'poison oak'. Poison ivy, I know what that looks like, but poison oak, I was unfamiliar with.
Lordy! Lordy! My two feet and ankles were completely blistered like you wouldn't believe. ITCHY! I could have scratched clear to the bone.
Yes, Calomine lotion did help, but I had some Webbers Vitamin E cream, that helped almost immediately.
It's not pleasant, and well...it takes ages for it to disappear. Just be glad you weren't sitting on the stuff or sunbathing nude near the stuff.
Hope whatever you use, irradicates the itching and blistering.
Looks like everyone has given you some great suggestions. Some of those ointment/medications I haven't ever heard of, so this is good to know for my next visit to the wilds of southern Ontario.

Speed Limits
by Abaddon ini had to drive about 600km (370 miles) to hamburg and back again yesterday on business.. for those of you that don't know, large parts of the german network of autobahns (freeways) have no speed limit.. of course, those who say german's don't have a sense of humour won't have though in detail about having a network of two-lane dual carriageways with no speed limit.
a very funny idea.. it was still a pretty good average speed (about 135km/h, 83mph) for the part of the journey in germany, and we , but as i got up to 220km/h (135mph) at various points and cruised over 160km/h (100mph) a lot, if they'd been a third lane it would have been a lot higher.
one side effect is once you are back down to normal highway speeds (120km/h) it feels like you're doing 50k/mh.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. in under 5 hours.
Imagine that?
We pulled it off, no problem.
My friend drove a Chevy Cavalier. That little sucker could fly. She kept that baby hot. We left my place at 1:15 p.m. and arrived in the Cleveland city limits just before 6:00 p.m., not bad at all.
Speed limits posted were ridiculous on both sides of the border (Canada/USA) because no one was even remotely following the posted limit, but we....we passed everybody .
I read several articles on-line and in print media regarding speed limits. For the most part, especially here in North America, our multi-lane expressways are designed to handle speeds of well over the posted speed limits. It's not the speed that kills, it's unskilled/poor drivers. Poor driving conditions contribute as well, but a skilled driver would drive (I hope) appropriately under these conditions.
The funniest thing I saw, a Mercedez-Benz (of some class) driven by some lunatic, zipping and in and out of traffic in the most dangerous fashion. But hey, you know how it is over here in North America with these BMW/Mercedez owners. Instant-asshole syndrome.
Anyways, this silver Mercedez went off ahead of us. We were doing around 70-75 mph. 5-10 minutes later, traffic comes to an instant crawl. What the f*@k? So there we are in an instant traffic jam on the QEW west of Toronto. Down the road, I see smoke, and lots of it. As we draw closer to the 'accident', we all start to shout "it was that f*ckin' Mercedez from earlier". This car was frontend bent up in an almost 90% angle, in a ball of flames. The only thing we could see was the back end, tilted to one side. Obviously, the asshole was lucky: people came to his rescue. I couldn't tell if there was another passenger, if there was: QEW BBQ. Some folks I could tell were not impressed with this idiots previous driving habits.
Just because you can afford, or get a lease to drive one of those cars, doesn't give a person a license to be an asshole, but I'm afraid more often than not, it does.
Here's a site I love looking at:
You want to see Mercs/Bimmers in mangled messes.....you'll have fun at that site. There's one in the collection that shows you a BMW like you've never seen it. I thought it was a piece of rusted/burnt out metal, but alas, it was a BMW. Cooked and mangled: just the way I like them. Over-easy/sunny side up.

Hey there.
I found a site, one I have visited before. It has some info on baby birds etc., so click the link below, I believe you'll find it most useful.

Howdy there!
Well, I am a proud owner of a lovable cockatiel. Her name is Nimh. She's a rescued bird: no feet. But she's a lovely little thing, affectionate and playful. Loves to sit beside Rayzorblade on the computer and hit the [Esc] and [Caps Lock] keys, occasionally rendering my typed words, useless or all IN CAPS. Little monster.
Well, I have been around baby cockatiels, and male/female cockatiels. You're lucky that the parent birds did not become aggressive; even if you are familiar to them.
This little bird, believe it or not, will be OK for a couple of days, in fact, I have a feeling the parent birds (normally) will feed the baby. They'll make do, and watch the male: he'll real take care of the little bird.
The soft food you are asking about, I know can be purchased from a reputable pet store/avian store.
Keep in mind, as tame as your cockatiels may be, their instincts will kick in and probably feed baby chick anyways, but of course, the additional soft food will help.
I also own one budgie (female) named: Baby.
Both are very active and keep me running.
I'll do some on-line searches at the various avian websites out there.
Best of luck, but I believe baby bird will be OK.

AUDIOSLAVE (2002), a self-titled album with some amazing songs on it. This is what I've been listening to endlessly since last night.
During Monday, June 14th's 'tornado warning' that went out over the radio, this song "I Am The Highway" went out over the stormy airwaves after 5:30 p.m., and for what it was worth, it sort of worked. It was haunting and unrelenting.
Anyone wish to share in their love of Audioslave?
OK, anyone wish to express their displeasure/dislike of Audioslave?
This entire album, which I purchased last night, is awesome.
I love it.
Some of you may remember the song "Like A Stone" which was played heavily in-rotation here in Canada.
Thanks! Listening to "I Am The Highway" for the 20th time.

Tornado/Tornado Warnings
by RAYZORBLADE init's 5:43 p.m. (est) and we here in toronto are under a tornado warning.
apparently, one of several storms churning overhead, has rotation.. brampton/chincuagousy area has been hit; folks say it sounded like a frieght train, cars/trucks thrown about with trees down, homes damaged.
the sky out where i am is green and churning with weird cloud formations (east end).. folks in southern ontario: keep your eyes/ear peeled.. who says a tornado cannot hit a large city: well, i hope not, but there you have it.

If you remember Chris Cornell from Soundgarden; this is the music that was blasting when the warning went out.
The song: "I Am A Highway" it was surreal.
This CD/album was released in 2002: last night, I went out and picked it up.
Tornado music. Yes, indeed.
Take cover, with some haunting music in the basement boombox.

No worries folks!
We got through it.
There were some touchdowns, but not where I live. The tornadoes that touched down were in the F0 to F2 range.
It's all back to calm, cool and collected in East Toronto.
