Daughter counselled on dating a wordly guy
by minimus inmy daughter recieved this email from one of her witness "friends".
she is counseling my daughter (indirectly) about her choice to date a "worldly" guy.. hey, so, we had a talk recently that was about love & respect in your marriage.
the brother brought out that this was more for us witnesses rather than worldly people, because it seems that even in the truth now marriage has lost it's correct place.

Jesus or Judas:Will the real terrorist please stand up?
by Valis ini was reading the religion section of the newspaper yesterday and they had this article that purported judas iscariot as a terrorist, citing his last name was somehow connected to a group of assassins...i'm not much of a bible scholar, but to me i would think that from the perspective of the roman and jewish authorities, jesus was seen as the real terrorist and threat to both societies.the article went on to mention that judas may have been trying to incite jesus to further action or at least have him martyred to spark a reaction among the discontented ones...any thoughts?.

Ok, I'm back to finish the theory/story/according to the way I learned it.
The "cleansing" of the temple was a major event in that this was the first time the Jesus had acted out aggressively. This was also suppose to be the beginning of the massive insurrection between the zealots(resistance) and the corrupt establishment and military occupation.
But what came out of this was Jesus choice or his change of heart to opt for martyrdom instead of rebellion. Judas resisted this idea but the choice had already been made. So each of the disciples were given a task to carry out and Judas task was to turn Jesus over to the proper authorities. So the theory here is that there was no betrayl but a conscience choice by all. This act was supposedly done lovelingly and with Jesus blessing so Judas went along and played his part. The role of the betrayer.
Jesus went on trial and was convicted of sedition and was crucified as an enemy of the state. He was punished as a poltical person/prisoner.
Peters task was to build and become the head of the church once Jesus was gone. The other disciples would spread around the region and bring the news. Enter Saul <aka> Paul he now drops the sword of the zealot and become a holyman the greatest advocate and the 1st christian on behalf of Jesus. He takes his message directly to Rome and the seeds of christianity are planted. Jesus now becomes the christ.
This is not gospel this is theory and very old theory.

Salute the flag
by manon induring my childhood growing up jw while in grammar school saluting the flag or reciting the pledge of allegiance was practice every morning in our classrooms.
before the begining of every school year my mother would have a talk with my new teachers about our religious beliefs and practices.
i detested this i wanted to recite the pledge just like my classmates and sing the star spangled banner outloud.

I didn't answer your question earlier before because I found no validity to it. I fail to see the link or trade-off you imply. There is no substitution for me from one ideal to another. Instead what I do see is the freedom of choice a choice that's backed by law. You can find these in your bill of rights. These laws grant us freedom of religion and speech. My parent excercised her right to choose for her children based on what she thought best and on her religious convictions. Today my rights are also protected to choose according to my own beliefs. Thanks for posting.

I was truly waiting for a parents perspective on this subject. I'm all the way with you on this one jw's do make way to much out of this at the expense of children. I can understand wholeheartedly your daughters uneasy and unsettled feelings I've been there the only difference it was 34 years ago for me. Thanks for your input.

I read some information a while back on said analogy. Now I'm not certain if this is true or false, this is what I learned.
Judas Iscariot was a zealot like Saul<aka> Paul he was part of the underground resistance that fought the occupying forces of Rome in their homeland.
Jesus was a carpenter with extremely antiestablishment antagonistic leanings. Jesus had provocative tendencies with peaceful actions but that caused paranoia, fear and unrest amongst the higer ups so they viewed his as dangerous.
The premise of betrayal between Judas and Jesus was the desire of Judas to have Jesus take up arms against corrupt jews and roman dominance. So in essence Judas was the sword of the people and Jesus was the heart and mind and together they could have made tangible changes during their life times.
So who was the real terrorist well according to this logic they both were just in different capacities. Jesus wanted change through peace and new thinking and Judas via violence and war. This is not gospel.

Xena that's so funny. The way to combat anti american sentiment is to send out an invitation. Again, I stand on my original post. If you feel you dislike america/americans you definitly need to have a vacation here a nice long one. Promise you'll have a change of heart.
