.
when speaking to a jw the other day, i didn't really have a good explanation of ecclesiastes 9:5, where it says that the dead are conscious of nothing at all.. what is everybody's take on it?
Ok, 'splain this one. If the dead are conscious of nothing at all, what is the current view of Rev. 6:9 & 10? If the souls are dead how are they able to cry out?

i hate this feeling .. i try and reason with myself thats its the life long programming that i have been through .. but the world events atm are really getting me nervous ... please people help me get past this :/edited by - m0nk3y on 12 february 2003 1:34:50.
Hi Monk3y; Just remember that in addition to all the signs mentioned in Matthew 24, wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, pestilences, etc and the scripture in Revelation 11:18 about those ruining the earth; that there will be both natural and man-made disasters and destruction. Depending upon where they happen and where you live it can seem like the end of the world.
Be strong. Trust in God and keep your spirits up. He loves you as he loves all his people.

to the tune of "if you're happy and you know it".
if you cannot find osama, bomb iraq.. if the markets are a drama, bomb iraq.. if the terrorists are frisky,.
pakistan is looking shifty,.
Where ever it came from...its good and so appropriate today!
my jw husband told me the other day he went to a car dealership and was talking to an employee there he knew, they were watching this woman walking back and forth between cars praying.my husband asked his friend what is she doing?
his friend replyed , she's been here before she is a jehovah witness, with that my husband replyed , i am a witness and we don't act like her ,praying to cars.
his friend took him inside and showed a watch tower that had been changed.
Was the title of the magazine "The Watchtower"?
logic speaks for itself, consider the vastness of the universe.
each galaxy has between 50 to 100 billion stars.
stars like our sun have planets orbiting them.
When my husband and I used to go camping out in the mountains we'd sit around a campfire and speculate what aliens would think if they landed in a campground. Would they be amazed at how primitive life was on this planet?
Maybe they visited a campground and left thinking there is no intelligent life on earth...

i've always been curious about this.
i'm an ex-jw with serious god issues but enough about me.
in all the years i was a witness, i was always taught the proper way to pray.
Hi Maude and welcome to the forum!
In my experience, God does answer prayers though he doesn't speak in ways we always understand. Many times he doesn't speak at all. He just shows us something that calls to mind the prayer we offered to Him. Sometimes, He shows us many facets of the answer and leaves it up to us to figure it out.
No neon signs, no whispering voices in the night. I prayed dilligently to God to show me the true religion and His organization on the earth. He showed me the book "Crisis of Conscience" and then when the Dateline pedophilia story came in May I felt compelled to put a blank tape in the VCR and tape the program without even knowing what that particular Dateline program would be about.
I feel that he did answer my prayers regarding His organization and it isn't the Watchtower Society.

back before the internet, jw's who left, either df'd or da'd had nothing to rely on.
they didn't have the communication with others, nor did they have access that they now have with the internet.
now, anyone can log on, even jw's, and see sites like this one, that talk about the real truth.
Thanks Freedom96. The good thing about having a computer at home is that you can investigate the information on this and other forums in total privacy. No elders looking over your shoulder at the KH. That way they have no clue that the investigator will soon be an ex-JW.
i am hereby, for the next 24 hours at least, swearing off all serious topics.
yesterday was a brain-fry day, what with the harassment stuff, a call from our medicaid lawyer regarding my mother's application (not good news), doing bills, and fleeing to the gym at lunch only to find out i've gained two pounds since last week.. today at lunch i am going shopping by myself.
i am going to my favorite resale/antique clothing shop down the street and see if i can find something eye-popping for the apostafest.
I like long walks with the dog, working with my plants...transplanting, grafting and rooting, and going for motorcycle rides. YeeeHaaaa

i'm new to this sight and wondered if anyone can enlighten me on the smurf legends.
how did they get started?
does anyone have any good smurf stories?
Welcome Lacey! I'd like to hear the origin of the Smurf stories too. Glad you asked.
