Let us just take a minute and look at this from a real-world perspective. Maybe you dont know dozers and cranes and trucks......

Has anyone seen all the misc small hand tools for sale? A 7 pc screwdriver set for $27. A used chalk line for $4. 1 locking C Clamp for $10. A mason's chisel, in "good" condition, for $7. Used caulking guns for $2. A used wire brush for $2 ????

Who in their right mind is going to pay almost full retail for USED UP construction tools? And then pay to have them SHIPPED!??

Oh, wait. Maybe its cause they have holy spirit still in them........I can frame that trowel on and hang it on my wall, with a small plaque that says: "Helped construct Warwick".

And just think, some young bobblehead is sooo thrilled and privileged to be listing used tools on the interwebs for Ghovah.

How embarrassing.

Child Broadcast Star is Going Home to Die.

the february broadcast has an item which in my view exploits a young very poorly girl.

it seems that the girl is quite a character and her faith seems to be strong.

she was baptised as a pre-pubescent innocent girl and is purported to be a regular pioneer at age 13. now read what her local paper says :-.

The family and I just watched this broadcast 2 nights ago. Yes, the little girl's story is a tough one to watch. BUT THIS???

OMG! Of course they didn't add anything at the end to update us on her condition. And WTH? They cant kick down a few bucks from their BILLIONS to help her get home....to DIE?

This is just embarrassing. Complete facepalm moment. Don't they think for a second that more good might come out of showing some compassion for the family and giving them a hand, since they shamelessly used them in their promo? Wouldn't people be more inclined to adore the GB if they showed some REAL kindness?

Shows you exactly how shortsighted they truly are. Sick bastards.

new here, been lurking for many months now.

I wanted to bump this thread up to the top, for the benefit of a few folks who seem to be popping up in just the last few days. Especially you elders who are trying to come to grips with what you are learning.

My original intent (see few early posts) was to relate my experiences to show that you are NOT alone, many are here that have experienced, and continue to go through what you are trying to wrap your minds around.

Nope, I am not a slobbering, foaming-at-the-mouth apostate. Just a dude, seeing things for what they are.

On a personal note, as a bit of an update...... wife and I still go to the occasional meeting, maybe overy other one. The new midweek meeting arrangement is so disgustingly boring that we dont make it a real priority. Service? Not really, we might go out once a month to make a few visits on some of the older folks that seem to get lost in the shuffle. I cant stomach hocking literature, and I refuse to man a cart, or to show videos to householders.

We are slowly "rebuilding" our mental "house", making a new life and keeping WT outside, at a distance. It truly is like trying to "relearn" how to live.

Anyways, enough about me. To all you "new" guys and gals... stick around. Lots to soak in, and even more to learn from.

Some thoughts on the new midweek meeting

the new midweek meeting has been running for a month now.

here are my thoughts on how it is going so far:.

1) elders are looking frazzled from being on virtually every meeting and having to prepare unfamiliar formats for items.

Gone are the days when a brother (or sister for that matter) could write up a talk and make it go anywhere they wanted. Brothers especially, with years of experience, could use 5 minutes to bring out some really unique and thought-provoking points that could benefit everyone.

Now, not ever. Not going to happen. The Ministry School is gone. Teaching people, and learning to speak publicly... gone. Nothing of substance exists anymore. It's all parroting and repetition:. Do it this way, demo the leaflet, I mean magazine (not 2 anymore), pretend to have an RV, watch a video, answer the paragraphs from the paragraph. Oh, and here's another video. YAY!!! So encouraging!!..... Now let's follow along with our "Bible Study" from the Faithful book, about things that might have, could have, probably did, and evidently took place. Now that we are thru that horror, lets sing this new song that sounds like a kids cartoon commercial from Sesame Street ---- facepalm---

The new meeting format is just embarrassing. And as was mentioned, all this hype was over at week 2.

GB Members: What's the Story?

over the past few decades i've met many individual jws, but i've always been curious about the gb members themselves and about service at bethel.

first, do gb members fraternize with regular rank and file members or do they only sell out each other?

when i was a methodist, it didn't take me long to figure out that our minister and his wife were frequently invited to dinner, but i never heard of him actually inviting members to his house for dinner.

Last year at the District Convention (Regional Convention), I sat in a position that was off to the side a bit, and near enough to the stage to see the back of the stage, where everyone "gets ready".

Our "guest speaker" was Splane. He did NOT come from out of the audience, where the other brothers who had parts were (they typically sit with their families, in various locations). He entered from a back room, within just a few minutes of his part. He stood nervously around, by himself, waiting for his cue. What struck me in that moment was that he looked lonely. No one accompanied him. Alone, with this as his only forum, his claim to fame. He got his cue, gave his part, left the stage, got a few handshakes and pats on the back, then left the building thru the back entrance. No fraternizing, no encouraging lunchtime chats with the pubs, nothing. In and out like a rockstar.

It struck me in that moment that these magic 7 are not normal, they are an elite group, put on a self-imposed pedestal, far removed from reality. They are worshipped and adored as if God's own. They give nothing back but rhetoric and rules. Their words are hollow, their actions perfunctory, unfeeling, and robotic.

I have to wonder if at times, they sit by themselves, looking out the window, knowing that with 1 slight mistake, their ENTIRE world could be gone in an instant, their "friends" turning on them overnight. I wonder if at times, they feel the lonely emptiness of their facade. What a sad and pitiful life to lead.

Exactly. Do you think we will ever see Mark Sanderson in a pair of dirty jeans and a hardhat and gloves shoveling concrete? No, not unless its a "photo op". Fatty needs to get out and do a little manual labor. Cant even muster up the cajones to be out there taking pictures, let the subservient sisters do it.... he might get his cheap suit dirty.

Dont Give Them More Power Than They Deserve

a new montra that was recently adopted by the wife and i is this:.

dont give them more power than they deserve.. here's why i say that, and i point this to those of you still in the congregation, still trying to decide what you want to do.. recently, our family had a little family reunion gathering of sorts, and we were in the company of some extended family that were either df or da, to varying degrees.

we made it very clear, to any and all in attendance, that we wanted to be respectful and kind, despite any previous perceptions about our "status".... and that our feelings on a lot of things had "softened", and "changed" over the last 2 years.. i am being purposefully slightly vague, but i think you get the point.

It is truly empowering to take back control. I strongly urge anyone in this type of situation to do the same. Dont play by their made-up "rules". They deserve ZERO "power" over anyone, so don't give it to them. Suddenly they become a deflated balloon, lacking anything resembling a spine. When you tell them NO, they bounce around like crazy chickens, crashing into walls, and doing alot of "clucking". And thats about all they can do.

I learned to apply a general rule of thumb that we use to run our business.... If you disrespect us, or cause us detriment in any way.... I wont waste my time with you, I dont care what your "title" is, how old you are, or what kind of "privileges" you have. I have better things to do, and a family to give our reciprocal love to, a family and REAL friends who appreciate kind consideration and have respect for one another...

....Less authority than a school crossing guard....EXACTLY.
