  if jesus said to keep celebrating the memorial 'until he returned' and he returned in 1914 then why do we still celebrate the memorial?

  Blondie,

  I was never a very good student and my Bible knowledge is pretty poor. But I really look forward to your comments on the WT Study. I am starting to find it easier to see these articles for what they really are. I can now pick out the loaded language and sickening terms they use. My husband told me that I must read today's article because it was written especially to help people like me - the lost and spiritually weak. I read it this afternoon, with the help of your comments, and it made me want to puke!

  "the organization is imperfect" or "they make mistakes sometimes".

  in this fashion, they can retain their extreme allegiance.

  What you said about the Catholic church is so true. You can stop going to mass and everyone in your local church still speaks to you. You can live your life the way you see fit and they are not told by the priest whether you are good company or not. The Catholic church does not stop children from associating with their parents and vice versa. The Catholic church does not stop you from reading literature from other religions, it does not stop you associating with people from other religions, it does not try to control your every thought and every move. You can tell your local priest that you don't believe the Pope is infallible, and he will tell you to pray about it and he will pray for you too - he won't have you kicked out of the church and make sure you are shunned by the congregation.

  The WTS does all the above. They are forever running down the Catholics, yet they have a poorer and sicker track record. I am not supporting the RC church, but it makes me sick to hear JWs constantly tearing Catholics apart and ridiculing their beliefs when the WTS has the most ridiculous beliefs of all.

  Sorry! I may get the chance to reply properly before I get timed out.

  I was going to say this is sickening. The WTS seems to be trying to make people shun us even if we are not DFd or DAd. Their wording is very clever and they are implying that we are fighting against God.

  I wish the people I knew would just step outside the organisation for a minute and think for themselves. I wish they would just stop and realise what is happening to them. It is such a hard thing to do when you are immersed in all this garbage. I can see things so much more clearly now than I ever could when I was struggling on the inside of this hateful cult.

  are JW's classist?

  is it just coincidence or do jw's seem to prefer members to be of at least middle class standing.

  i cant think of one brother who had to struggle to make ends meet who became an elder or ms. in fact it seems like those ones were often viewed as weak.

  any thoughts?

  They most definitely are classist where I come from. The only elders we have are extremely affluent. The working-class don't seem to get a look in. That's another reason why elders find it so hard to identify with the average JW - they live in a different world (at least in my old congregation)

  Also, the wealthy only seem to mix with the wealthy and those of us who are further down the financial ladder stick together. Like attracts like. All this talk about being one brotherhood is just a fairy tale.

  Good question bb,

  I have often wondered about this. If the foetus is not a life, why does it say somewhere in the OT that if two men are fighting and one knocks into a pregnant woman and causes her to lose her baby, that man must be put to death - a life for a life? Either the foetus is a life or it isn't. According to this passage, it is a life. Also, why would abortion be wrong if you were not actually taking a life.

  A sister I knew had a stillbirth and the elders said she would not see him in the resurrection. I always thought that was a load of rubbish - how did they know this? There is nothing about that in the Bible. I think some elders just make things up as they go along.

  How Long Does Grief Last?

  last week i was very taken aback to see a recently bereaved (4 months) friend of ours walking along the high street with his arms around a ladyfriend.

  i knew how devastated he had been at his wife's death, so it gave me quite a start to see him with someone else.

  i then told myself it was none of my business, quit judging sunshine, get on with your own life.. i couldn't shake the image out my mind however, so i discussed it at length with her ladyship to get her thoughts on the matter.

  I know what I want to say but words fail me.

  Mouthy - you really seem to have such an adult attitude to everything - I wish I could be like you, but I am very vindictive.

  I am so angry at everything - I am angry that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Claire was killed. If I had been in the right place, she would be here with me today.

  I hate grief. I hate feeling like this. I want to be a normal mum with her kids all around her. Why must I be deprived like this?

  The WTBS really does cause some divisions, but whether you get to see them or not, you still have a lot of family out there.

  You have sure made your mark. Your grandaughter is beautiful. Congratulations!
