  does nayone happen to have reference to the article that the wts basically told it's adherents not to view fellow jws who obtained a "scriptural divorce" back in the years that the elders policed the marriage bed of jws?

  what i mean is that jws back in the days of the say.... 60s and 70s... approx.

  , who wanted to do what was right in the eyes of the society god sought divorces over certain sexual relations with their marriage partners if their partners wished to be stimulated in certain ways the society god did not apporove of back then between a married couple's private realationship.. .

  The other issue was that anyone who had gotten a divorce on the grounds of the WTs definition of pornea in the early 70's and had subsequently remarried new partrners were not to feel guilty over the new light. They had been faithful to the old light and that was good enough for God.

  when a child is molested, they suffer in many ways through their years as we all know.

  my question is......what tells them it is not right?

  how do they know that they have been abused?

  As I read thru this whole thread I was overcome with grief and outrage. This is not just a JW problem (altho they add a rotten dimension) it is a societal problem.

  The fact that in 2004 a T.V. program can generate a question like Gumby's is appalling. Gumby has somewhere to ask the question and get an outpouring of answers. How many thousands watched the same show and now have the same or similar question? They do not have the resource such as this forum to get answers.

  The misconception then continues that the harm to the children is not that bad.

  The issue is not yet marketable to make a feature length movie. The play based on the book A Father's Touch is a giant leap forward.

  The only way society in general will become outraged by sexual abuse is for it to be in their face. Until then it will be discussed in polite private circles such as this.

  Such a shame.

  Friends were as zealous for the public character of their meetings for worship as they were for the select character of their meetings for business. As Richard Vann states, Quaker meetings for worship were in every sense public meetings, open to all who cared or dared to come. [29] Dared was very much to the point in that Friends would put up with a great deal of abuse rather than limit access to these meetings; though they might be attended by informers who would supply persecutors with lists of Quakers; or by violent persons with or without judicial authority, who entered them to assault Quakers and drag them away. There was always the hope that the power of God in the meeting would reach the heart of the hostile attender.[30]

  They restrict the disowned one from their meetings for business but every other meeting for worship or family ties remain unchanged.

  They do not treat anyone with contempt even if they exhibit anti-Quaker views.

  From what I read on the site they do not use the disowning practice much. Only if the meeting for business is in danger of being disrupted.

  They do not fear the contrary views of former members. And look how long they have prospered with such a tolerant view even though they are a bit off the beaten track of mainstream churches.

  in the 70s the wt published that certain practices between marriage partners such as oral sex were wrong and could result in disfellowshipping.

  we all remember the havoc it wreaked on marriages especially where a non jw mate was involved.

  they later backed away from this position.

  i just thought that i would share my life as a jw.

  i was born into this cult in 1973. i was born as a hermaphodite (both sexes) this was of great shock to my parents, apparently the confided in one of the elders asking him what thay should do?

  his respones was that i should be made male (the doctors at the time said i should be female) my parent took the avice of the elder and i was the made to be a male.. as i was growing up i beged my parents to allow me to be the person that god had wanted me to be but the elders kept reasuring me and my parent that god wanted me to be a male so that i could one day be a elder or s/overser.. in my teen years it became very apparent that my parents had made a mistake as i would act in a very female way.

  Did The Witnesses Ever Say Weird Things In The 70's Door To Door?

  i recall my parents saying that they would go around and say that "nuclear bombs" were, at one point, imminent, and what you would do if you died today?

  i'm not sure if that's the exact wording, but just wondering if they really said weird things like that; like there were fighter jets in the sky with nuclear capabilities that nearly caused "armageddon".

  hello, just introducing myself.

  i'm an inactive witness, been so for a few months now.

  got put off mostly by 1914 being hammered more and more lately, the child molestation issue, the un-ngo thing and just feeling like i don't want to shoot my mouth off and get labelled apostate so best to fade out.
