ok, i just got the latest wt that has big flaming numbers 666 on the front.
i skimmed through it but naturally it's pretty vague on who they think makes up this beast that has this number.
personally, i've always felt that there will be an individual antichrist (like hiter) who tries taking over the world.
The scripture says that 666 is a man's number. Whatever that means.
As far as taking over the world; whenever I hear that the weird part of me thinks back to Pinky and the Brain the two Warner Brothers cartoon lab rats. Each time Pinky asks, "What are we going to do tonight, Brain?" and Brain would say "What we do every night, Pinky, try to take over the world."
Trying to figure out Revelation makes my head hurt, so I don't.

The other issue was that anyone who had gotten a divorce on the grounds of the WTs definition of pornea in the early 70's and had subsequently remarried new partrners were not to feel guilty over the new light. They had been faithful to the old light and that was good enough for God.

As I read thru this whole thread I was overcome with grief and outrage. This is not just a JW problem (altho they add a rotten dimension) it is a societal problem.
The fact that in 2004 a T.V. program can generate a question like Gumby's is appalling. Gumby has somewhere to ask the question and get an outpouring of answers. How many thousands watched the same show and now have the same or similar question? They do not have the resource such as this forum to get answers.
The misconception then continues that the harm to the children is not that bad.
The issue is not yet marketable to make a feature length movie. The play based on the book A Father's Touch is a giant leap forward.
The only way society in general will become outraged by sexual abuse is for it to be in their face. Until then it will be discussed in polite private circles such as this.

From what I read on the site they do not use the disowning practice much. Only if the meeting for business is in danger of being disrupted.
They do not fear the contrary views of former members. And look how long they have prospered with such a tolerant view even though they are a bit off the beaten track of mainstream churches.

in the 70s the wt published that certain practices between marriage partners such as oral sex were wrong and could result in disfellowshipping.
we all remember the havoc it wreaked on marriages especially where a non jw mate was involved.
they later backed away from this position.

i just thought that i would share my life as a jw.
i was born into this cult in 1973. i was born as a hermaphodite (both sexes) this was of great shock to my parents, apparently the confided in one of the elders asking him what thay should do?
his respones was that i should be made male (the doctors at the time said i should be female) my parent took the avice of the elder and i was the made to be a male.. as i was growing up i beged my parents to allow me to be the person that god had wanted me to be but the elders kept reasuring me and my parent that god wanted me to be a male so that i could one day be a elder or s/overser.. in my teen years it became very apparent that my parents had made a mistake as i would act in a very female way.
This is a great place to heal from spiritual abuse.
