Is it all about the money?
by Laika inoften on this forum there are posts about how the gb are obsessed with money and some people here often suggest this impacts every decision the gb makes i.e.
on my holiday thread it was suggested jws aren't allowed to celebrate holidays as it means spending money on presents that they want for themselves.. i however, do not think this is at all true.
the society rarely talks about money and as a percentage of income i think the vast majority of jws contribute a very small amount simply because the society rarely talk about it.. obviously money is important to the society in the sense that they couldn't run a major organisation without it, so they have to ask for it at times and factor it in to some of their decision making, but actually the gb live quite frugally and seem to worry much more about clinging to their authority and power than getting rich.. my controversial suggestion of the day is that saying the gb are obsessed with money must make us look silly to lurkers.. what does the jwn intellegentsia think then?.

Hi Searcher, could you explain without being so cryptic because I have no idea what you're talking about.

If the Society needs more money they should hire me as their financial adviser. I could easily quadruple the amount they receive in contributions without requiring either a tithe or passing a donation plate. No problem.

I think sir82 is right.
Phizzy, I think the GB are far more than figureheads. Although the lawyers no doubt have real influence the GB does have real control.

Why JWs don't celebrate Mother's day
by Laika inin the uk, this sunday is mother's day!
ask a jw why they don't celebrate holidays and they'll tell you it's because of some nefarious pagan connection.
but this is really just a cover.

Wtwizard, over here it's very common for families to have a 'present day' on the date of the parent's anniversary. Is this just a UK tradition or is it done in the tyrannical states as well?

the bible and its prophecies
by Crazyguy ini have been doing a lot of research on the bible and its roots so to speak and its becoming clearer that the jews like other races took gods and stories from others and made them their own.
its also become clear that many of the books were written later then stated, like daniel probably written about a hundred years before christ and some of it maybe even after.
but what i don't get is the prophecies.

Why is it that people acting the worst are always the ones saying they have God and are loving?
Confirmation bias?

A true JW seems unbothered by this glaringly double and dubious standard.
True that, but then, as I'm sure you know, this is because the real JW standard is 'whatever the GB says'. The stuff about pagan celebrations are actually irrelevant.

What is definition of a true friend, once outside the cult?
by suavojr inafter leaving the cult of jw's or waking up to ttatt, it is a struggle to trust people again.
i am personally starting from scratch although i am still in.
each moment i spend with my current jw friends, i know they are all smiles and loving towards me because of my good status with the wt.. outside a cult you still find fake people and it is also a struggle to find true friends and it is even worst when we've been hit hard from people we used to trust and care for.. .

I know what you mean Suavojr, I don't have any advice, just want to commiserate. The only time I ever really opened up to people who were supposed to love me, they rejected me. The idea of going beyond anything superficial again genuinely scares me. I hope you get some good advice.

Newcomers to TTATT: Beware of "New Study Mode"!
by Londo111 inweve all heard it.
a person starts studying with jehovahs witnesses and love what they are learning so much that they cant stop talking about it.
bubbling with enthusiasm, they spill everything they are learning with their friends and family...or anybody who will listen.

'not my loved ones' - so true, I really believed the people I cared about would be different. Nope, not in the slightest, they haven't listened to me at all.
