I am being pressured to go, 'out of respect to Jesus' I don't think it is respectful to Jesus as the memorial is really about reinforcing the JW hierarchy, but I'm not allowed to tell them this because it is 'apostate' and our relationship is based on me saying nothing critical about JWs, which makes it a difficult situation.

Anyone Else Feeling Forced to Go to the Memorial?
by PaintedToeNail ini refuse to go to any meetings, assemblies, conventions, special talks or the like...however, i get coerced into going to the memorial every year.
because it keeps the peace at home with hubby and also makes my parents, who live elsewhere, have hope that i will come to my senses and become an active witness again.
there is no chance in hell of that happening, but it prevents the ties to my family from being severed.

Why don't Born Again Christians include themselves as "Cults"?
by booker-t inwhen i see or hear born again christians calling mormons, jws, 7th day adventists, jews etc; cults i always have wondered is that not the pot calling the kettle black?
i just amazes me how so much in denial bacs(born again christians) are.
they love to condemn and throw stones at others but they will never, never, and i mean never label themselves as cults even though they have some of the weirdest beliefs.

Yes, that was inappropriate/cultish. I hope you called him on it.

Dissent is not tolerated in any evangelical church.
What used to happen to dissenters in your church?

Probably because in born again churches you are not generally ostracised for disagreeing with the teachings.

Working as an elder must almost be like a second job, it's a lot of work. I appreciate that. I'm pleased you are better. :)

The Real Deal - The Best life Ever
by emeth inmeet benny.
he had all the opportunities and talent to persue a 'higher' education and have a great career.
however he did meet someone and started a bible study... he changed his future... he changed his life and now, in his opinion, he has the best life ever.

Although I cannot speak for Benny and Cameron, when I was a JW I did have some really good times, and a lot of people in my life I loved and enjoyed spending time with. The problem is that internally I also felt a lot of pressure and guilt (the pressure to meet Jehovah's standards, and the guilt when I often didn't). The Watchtower promise is that doing more will eradicate those feelings, I think that's in part why these videos are so appealing to JWs, they not only look like they're having fun, but they're also convinced it will bring them that elusive sense of peace.
Do you hear what I'm saying emeth? Do you ever feel that weight? I don't mean to be patronising, I would like to know your objective thoughts here.

I sort of skipped through parts because I am impatient but it's a well made video.
Stunning country, I now want to visit. Thanks for posting emeth!

Legacy of being brought up a JW: Weird hang-ups
by Really?! indo you have any weird hang ups that you think are related to your history?
public speaking i hate hate hate any form of public speaking.
job interviews, presentations (for job interviews or in the work environment), telephone interviews etc.
-
Laika
I hate engaging with strangers but oddly quite enjoy public speaking. I am not sure that those hang ups are due to you being a JW, as Lisa said you are probably just an introvert.
I'll give you the demon one though, I hate horror movies.

Quality, I actually laughed out loud at that.
In hindsight masses of people in suits and dresses has to look just a little bizarre.
