NT Wright's 'Christian origins' series is pretty good, if a bit heavy.

Morning Witness - Sowing the Seeds
by Frazzled UBM inso i walked past a couple of young witnesses on the way to dropping my son off this morning and they were still there at the station when i came back to catch the train.
seeing them made me feel sad and think about all the stories of regret here on jwn so i figured what the hell i'll tell them.
so i approached them and asked how old they were.

I am amused at the idea of anyone trying to intimidate you Frazz.
Hope you reached them in some way!

Has growing up as a JW affected my ability to forgive ?
by troubled mind ini really don't understand the concept of forgiveness .
lately in my life several people have thrown that term around so easily ,and i am confused .
is it because we were taught to cut people off so easily as jws that i find it hard to forgive ?.

I think it's important not to seek retribution against people who have hurt you. I am upset at my former JW friends for shunning me for example but I wouldn't take any glee in them facing the same shunning were they to somehow rebel, and I would welcome them back in my life if they wanted me back. My forgiveness however doesn't extend to me going back to the JWs and pretending nothing is wrong.

Mrs Phizzy, as with many of the Female persuasion, approaches most things on an emotional level, how she feelsabout it.
Oh dear.

Did it bother you that they taught, "miss a meeting and you'll fall away?"
by Wasanelder Once inhow many times did we hear that if we dont attend meetings we will leave the truth because satan will get ahold of us?
that always bothered me.
i thought, "if my faith isn't able to stand alone what good is it?

How else are they going to get you to those meetings? They're so dull...

Leaving the JWs, experiencing Christianity and finding freedom! (But it took awhile)
by im_free inthis is my first post here.. i was raised in "the truth", and am an ex-bethelite who worked in brooklyn for several years back in the 90's.
a few years after i left bethel, i started to become disillusioned after doing research about the society and reading crisis of conscience (i know..i wasn't supposed to do that lol).
i eventually stopped attending meetings and going out in service.

Hi I'm_free, welcome to the forum! I am not an atheist and I agree with much of what you say but I think it's a bit unfair to imply people abandoned god because of the way JWs misrepresented god, it might be somewhat true in some cases, but certainly not all and it's impossible to make that judgement anyway. I am not sure if you meant this but it's just how it came across... Looking forward to getting to know you better!
