Athiests and Christmas?

i was just thinking.

since christmas is about the birth of christ, i know dec 25 was not his birthday, probly born around late sept or early oct. i guess he wanted to be born right before the baseball playoffs and world series, just kidding.

it was the early christian church that appointed dec 25th.

Okay Clash, here we go...

Very little to none of what most people celebrate on "Christmas" day are derivitaves of Christianity. From the wreaths to the trees to mistletoe to exchanging gifts: it's all pagan. Just cause someone slapped the name of Christ on it doesn't make it Christian. I call it X-mas cause it has no real spiritual meaning to me other than I get the day off with pay. Woo hoo! I tend to be cynical about it because I worked in a mall for 9 years. You celebrate what you want and I will celebrate what I want okay?

I'm actually an agnostic btw.

I actually celebrate X-mas the consumerist holiday. I'm a good little consumer and I buy my son all the presents I can afford cause he's just so damn cute.

I'm not a pagan I just play one on tv.

Bad things in JWs eyes

joy2bfree's post on cults got me thinking.. was anyone else told that certain harmless things (harmless in my eyes) were satanic.. i know you have all mentioned smurfs, but i was also told that the 'my little pony' toys were demonic because they were designed by a wizard?????

did i really believe this rubbish - my daughter always wanted one but i wouldn't buy one for her cos i thought i would be inviting demons into my house - i feel really rotten now!.

also wind chimes (which i always wanted cos i love the sound), anything written by sir arthur conan doyle (and i love sherlock holmes and felt so deprived), the beatles, john denver - can't think of any more at the moment but there were quite a few.
