Counting Time Question
by robhic ini am a non-jw and have a jw girlfriend (strange as this situation can be).
since the end of 2002 she has essentially been confined to her house and mostly to her bed due to illness.
she has attended 2 memorials and maybe 2-3 meetings in the last 2 years but nothing further.

it will be nice to get away from the stress and overwhelming workload i face each day on my current job and away from the watchful eyes of 2 active jws.. we are going to 2 separate firework displays this weekend and spend some time with the in-laws working in the garden and playing some cards.. hope the weather cooperates here and in your area.. blondie

Former Bethelite comes out and shares story
by Dogpatch ini was always a shy kid that desperately wanted to make my parents proud.
at about this same time i started to hang out with some guys that my dad didn?t particularly approve of.
i wonder how my life would have turned out had i stopped at any point between ages 14 and 19 and asked myself who exactly i was doing all this for.

Hi Michael,
Welcome here. I hope that you will find some solace among friends that understand you.
It will be a tough for a while, but you have your youth.
Many of us here have squandered the better part of our lives being enslaved to this organization that can be cruel and ruthless.
You however are young and you have many years ahead of you without the watchtower yoke.
I wish you all the best

Did you ever actually make a JW convert from the door-to-door work?
by True North inin all the years i went door to door as a jw, i never once had a study who went all the way to baptism.
in the thirty years i've know my wife -- who has been a jw all this time -- she has never made a single convert from going door to door either.
is this true of others on this forum?

Yes, I had a couple of studies that came into the org from the door to door. But I think that very few converts have been made from the door to door. Mostly they get reeled in from relatives and friends and co workers.

Crazy JW Superstitions...

Selling homes and property - pre-1975
by Bonnie_Clyde ini just had a discussion with a relative who attended the district convention.
he gave me the booklet, "keep on the watch.
" according to him, the speaker who introduced the booklet talked about the people who were stumbled because of the change in understanding regarding "this generation.

Sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s the Society published a half-hearted apology for being too eager regarding the 1975 issue.
The little blurb was in one of the late 70 or early 80's yearbooks. It was a few lines at the bottom of the page. hardly an apology.

I would not wish to pry them away from the society - a life away from that dream could destroy them.
Well said jnat! I have often thought about this very thing. When I share different things about the society with my mom, I see a sadness in her eyes. She feels only the "truth" is of value to her and to take that away feels like the rug has been pulled from under her.
I often ask myself if I have a right to destroy something that is so valuable and has given meaning to her life. (her words)
I am angered by the treatment of the elderly ones in the congregation. I see a lot of elderly ones who can barely walk and yet they are made to feel guilty if they don't peddle magazines every week.
I have seen many sick elderly ones who are expected to sit through days of hot, sticky and uncomfortable conventions.
This is ELDER ABUSE.
But what can you expect from an organization where the leaders are so out of such with the general public. They don't care. Their needs are well taken care of. What the hell do these old goats understand about the needs of the elderly. They use them. They take their money and then they throw them away like yesterday's garbage.

July 15 Watchtower article on Blood
by XBEHERE inin the 7/15 wt i dont recall the exact page, i dont have the magazine here at work but there is a chart that lists blood, what components are up to you and which ones are not allowed at all.
anyway its very odd because they list which ones christians should avoid from left to right, i.e.
red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, etc.

The regular garden variety dub ( Of which I was a part of) does not really understand this whole change of blood.
I was talking to one sister who boasts of a rich 'spiritual heritage' (members of her family are at bethel, in the missionary work, DO, CO ect, ect). She thought that fractions were blood alternatives and not parts of blood.
I talked to an elder regarding the July 15 article and his response was that it didn't matter what the changes are. The light gets brighter and brighter and we are to accept the governing body's lead because THEY HAVE A CONNECTION WITH GOD.
Unless one realizes that the governing body is not god's mouthpiece Jw's will continue to do what they are told whether its right or wrong.
I discussed this article with my mom (very loyal dub) and finally revealed to her that I do not carry a blood card and that in case of emergency I will do what I see fit and not what the society says. After all today's new light will eventually become old light.
