MacHislopp,
I love your posts. I can't believe I swallowed this nonsense up.
i was at the hospital the other day in the waiting room for about 2 hours with a friend, and i noticed only one awake magazine from 2000 in the pile of reading material.. i always thought that the watchtower was trying to "preach the good news to all the inhabited earth before the end comes".
well , they don't like the internet, which is the # 1 way to inform people, you cannot get a subscription anymore unless someone at the hall does it for you or you are still attending, probaly why i didn't see any at the hospital, or lawyers office, or doctor's office etc etc etc.. it seems to me that they are trying to limit what info gets out to the outside world, is this not contradicting all they have preached the last 50 years.. no subscriptions for anyone who might want one ?????????.
no new books, for anyone who is not a jw.. what do you think ????????.
Run,
the new publications used to be in print in the monthly Km. No more! Once a month during the service meeting they announce the publications that are available and then post it at the back for a few days.
my sister just got a visit from the elders.
this was the first visit in 10 years.
an inactive friend told me they are supposed to visit every year.
I thought every one in the congregation was supposed to get a sheperding call once a year.
in the bible in discussing the debacle about circumcision in the early christian community, the wts states about what they consider the gb:
w98 11/1 p. 5 how to solve problems peacefully.
after a scriptural discussion, the apostles and jerusalem elders came "to a unanimous accord" not to burden uncircumcised believers unnecessarily but to admonish them "to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication.
question: was there a governing body in the first century?
I've never come across that term in the scriptures.
the mention of the word "cult" may bring to mind jim jones of the people's temple and the mass suicide of over 900 innocent lives or david koresh of the "branch dividian and the massacre of innocent lives in waco.. the watchtower may not be a cult of that extreme calibre, but it is without a doubt a cult.. to those of you that may think that the watchtower is not a cult please consider this quote from the book "seductive poison" ( this is the biography of deborah layton who managed to escape jonestown).
the quote reads as follows:.
"when our own thoughts are forbidden, when our questions are not allowed and our doubts are punished, when contacts and friendships outside of the organization are censored, we are being abused for an end that never justifies its means.
ISP,
I can only recall 2 suicides. But I know for a fact that there are an awful lot of mentally troubled indivduals among the ranks of Jw.
LIBRA-SPIRIT
I hope that you find solace among friends on this board. The watchtower has scarred many of us. I hope that God will hold them accountable.

When our heart aches knowing we have made friendships and secret attachments that will be forever forbidden if we leave, we are in danger. When we consider staying in a group because we cannot bear the loss, disappointment, and sorrow our leaving will cause for ourselves and those we have come to love, WE ARE IN A CULT."
hi everyone, i heard this first hand, although it remains unofficial at this point.. pioneers who are currently serving, will get the new replacement to the old pioneer book (1977).
i was told they most likely would go back to pioneer school to get one.
there is new information in there, though i wasn't told what it was.. bad news is (if you can call it that), that pioneers who are no longer on the list will not get the new book.
I wonder if they will update the part-time job list in that book. Some of those suggestions were ridiculous. Here is a sample:
1.running movie projector
2.digging graves
3.shoe shining
4.cleaning rest rooms in gas stations
5delivering eggs, fruit, butter, vegetables to homes
6. waxing mobile homes
7. caretaker of homes while people are away.
9. making plant terrariums
10.milk deliveries
I wonder if anyone could have survived with jobs like these.
do you believe that there is life right now on other planets?
how can we be alone since the universe is endless?
if god does exist, why did he create all of that, if man will never go there?
I've wondered about that myself. I find it hard to believe that if the universe is so immense that we are the only ones here.
okay, okay some said i would come back and they were right.
this is now my second apology.
after i left i was angry and frustrated because i don't like the ol` arguement thing.
HELLO heather,
