Looking back today, What is your biggest "disappointment" about being a JW?
by run dont walk infor me it has to be my family, there not stupid, i was a little kid (the youngest) during the 1970's, all my brothers and sisters were in their teens/20's, what didn't they see ??
and why don't they see it today ??.
truly baffles me,.

The "loving" elders
by acsot ini havent been responding to many posts lately, ive sort of had my hands full.. i haven't been to the meetings in about 4-1/2 months - my mother has had two strokes and been in the hospital and doing rehab.
(before that i was occasionally going in order to bring her to the hall, my mother is in her 80s and the dubs are her only social outlet.
no one has a clue that ive had my eyes opened about the borg.

Sorry to hear about your mum. Its hard to see our aged parents deteriorate. You are a very good person to want to take care of her like you do. I commend you. Acsot you are a fine example.
It's funny how fake elders are. They are not interested in the flock, they just want to look good for the C.O. This is so typical of most of them. There are no "loving elders" only "plastic elders"

How many want out?
by ignored_one inhow many jws are there currently in the wt who want out but are held back by things they feel they can't control?
i hear posters say that if they're still jws then they must believe it.
what about the people whose whole family are jws and don't have any outside friends to turn to or for whatever reason are relying on their jw family for financial help and know that if they expressed doubts they would be cut off no questions asked.

I still go to the meetings for the sake of family but I don't beleive any of it anymore.
I went through periods of time when I would think: Oh my God what if they are god's channel. As of now I have know doubts whatsoever that they are NOT God's channel.
Yes I want out, but its easier said than done. I know that my family, being the loyal dubs that they are would shun me in an instant.
I am happy though to be mentally liberated from the borg. They don't have the hold on me they used to. At the meetings I usually tune everything out and do my Bible reading. I fake service. And when I am in company of other jws I don't have to appear "spiritual". None of them really are and seldom bring up any spiritual topic.
Some on this board may feel that this is cowardice. Maybe it is. But one day I know I will be out completely and I will close a very long chapter in my life and move on.

Jw's will be using this to their advantage and use it on the young to show what happens when you leave Jehovah.
Thanks for posting the article.

Class Distinction Within The JW Community?
by Latin assassin from Manhattan inhas anyone noticed that jws who appear to be higher up on the 'socio-economic' ladder get special treatment at the kh?
no matter how many khs i've visited, i've noticed that jws who are not well off socially/financially/physically are treated with less respect/dignity than those with a business of their own, or just a higher quality of life.
i've been to many 'gatherings' where jws filter themselves out according to race or socio-economic standing.

It always bugs me when I hear a dub say that their position is a "stepping stone to something better". I've known so many pioneers that their only reason for pioneering was so they can move on to the next level.
Class distinction is very evident at assemblies. When a speaker is announced it has to be accompanied by his title and list of accomplishments.

brown paper on the mirrors at assembly
by freein89 inthis happened in the mid 80's at a circuit assembly in wisconsin.
the "brothers" decided they had the solution to the long lines for the ladies room.
they went in there and covered the mirrors with brown paper.

They did this in Ontario Canada as well. Some of the sisters would tear the paper off. This thread has brought on other memories as well.
I was at one convention in Europe where there were assigned sisters that would knock on the stall door and ask you to hurry up.

When Jw say :"It was your personal choice"
by JT inthe avg jw when confronted with pass issues such as not going to college, setting up retirement plans while you are 23 for when you get 65, seeking a better paying job will often try to hide behind
"it was a personal decision".
while in one context that is true, there is one problem.

I've heard this point on this board that the society does not want anyone to go to collage, but if you have a collage education they want you.

Memorial Attendance
by Ariell inquote from the "how old were you when you got baptized?
" thread.from reading most of the ages listed here, it sounds like the overwhelming majority were "raised" in the troof.
that is probably still the majority of the ones getting baptized these days.

The memorial attracts many that usually would not come to the regular meetings. Inactive ones, disfellowshipped ones, family members, neighbors. Generally these come at the insistence of the jwdub or because they feel this is a sacred night. You wont see these individuals at any other meetings during the year.
