JWs, why God's organisation and not His church?

the jws call themselves an organisation and not a church except perhaps very rarely.

but is there something untoward hiding behind this choice?

to me it is objectionable because it ties in with the fds concept as god's sole channel on earth serving his supposed people.

never thought of that....Jesus gave emphasis on His church. The word, "organisation." never came through His mouth.

i've been "cruising" the boards for two months now, and there appears to be a lot of very knowledgeable and "cool" individuals here.. i recently embarked on a introductory bible-study with the jws in my area.

i know that probably isn't music to most of your ears, but rest assured that i'm not remotely sold on their theology.

nor am i blind to the past scandals and current issues of the wtbts--i've read about four different scholarly works about the society.. i was raised as a lutheran, and i've had a decent amount of bible-schooling in the lutheran denomination.. my questions to you, those who would know, are these:.

You asked a good question. I'm not sure, but they,-watchtower-(jehovah witnesses) use to have a small blue book to give for beginners. It's called, "The Truth That Leads To Eternal Life. Witnesses call it the, "Truth Book."

What's so interesting about this book is in the second chapter called, "Why is it wise to examine your religion." In this chapter the questions come up about your or anyone elses religion. It goes into detail about it. And what's so sad about it, it would be so funny if it wasn't a serious study is......I turned it around and asked them about their religion. If you ask them about it..you're talking about scaring them half to death. :-)

They have no idea of the history of their own religion...that is if one can call it that.

My in-laws were Witnesses back in 1973 and that's when I asked them about it. My Father-in-law was an elder. And he told me that if I kept asking those types of questions they would leave. My wife, at the time, begged me not to ask those types of questions. When spring of 1974 came around I asked about the difference between their john 1:1 New Worlds Translation of the Holy Scriptures, and the King James Verision of john 1:1. Because of that question and for the next 30 years I became a scholar of Greek(koien) ancient hebrew, and ancient abraic writtings and one of many theological research specialists since that time.

And before I close...why not ask them about 1975?

Did Jesus Already Come in 1918?????

i had to ponder on this for a while .

according to the watchtower jesus came invisiblly back in 1918..i think.

i mean is shouldn't we be taken up to heaven in 1918?

I mean is shouldn't we be taken up to heaven in 1918? Well in 1 THESSALONIANS 4: 15-17, it states that christians should be taken up as the apperance of the Lord comes. That means millions should have vanished in 1918......

think on it.....

Crazy Californian Witnesses...

but there is a general consensus among my friends and some witnesses that i talk to that there is something almost inherently wrong with californian witnesses.

(i'm on the east coast) .

I heard they were doing that at Bethel. Even thogh I'm in Nebraska now, I spent the last 35+ years in southern California

What if Tyrannosaurus Rex still existed?

zach (my 7 year old) and i were playing with his dinosaurs last night.

he has a 2 foot long rubber t-rex with huge teeth and claws.

i turned it to him, opened the mouth wide, and said "roar!".

Dinosaurs are quite a delight to study these famious animals. From my youth my favorite was the Triceratops.

Years back they believed the Brontosaurus was the heviest one of all..coming to a staggering 30 Tons. It was said that it was so heavy it had a brain in it's tail just to move it's hind legs. But of course the Brachiosaurus came along.

Of course the T-Rex was suppose to be the greatest one of them all until they realized that it's front paws, or arms, it might have been just a scavanger.

But all in all the dinosaurs were interesting....

Jesus' Human Body

have you noticed that when jesus christ, the son of god, the lord of lords, said something in the bible that the watchtower society disagrees with, the society will either (1) ignore it almost completely or (2) talk about that scripture, but then, they will twist it around to mean the exact opposite of what he plainly said?.

a good example of this is the insight book (volume 2), page 1,083 ("temple"):on one occasion, when the jews demanded a sign from jesus, he replied: "break down this temple, and in three days i will raise it up.

" the jews thought he was speaking of the temple building, but the apostle john explains: "he was talking about the temple of his body.

For those who really read the bible..in Luke 24:39 Jesus said Himself, after the resurrection, it ws His body.....yet the watchtower teaches the Jesus came back in a different body....No where in scripture does it say that Jesus came back in another body...

Before death....Jesus' earlthly body..with blood in Him....After the resurrection His glorfied body....meaning Jesus was alive without the aid of blood. The same body.....only difference was....the subject of blood.

I hate AOL...

When I started surring the net back in the late 80s, AOL always disconnceted me. Then I found a program that wouldn't all AOL to be cut off.

Then AOL started to pre-bill me. Then they started billing me, through my Visa card, for things I never ordered. I cut AOL off and went with another ISP. Then AOL wrote me and gave me a few months free for my problems and I went back on. Then, again, AOL was billing me way too soon or they kept up billing me things I never asked for. Again I discontinued AOL.

So the war began until this last try...AOL told me I'd get 3 months free. I already have a DSL. Then some how I discovered that my DSL and AOL had a conflect and told them I couldn't use AOL. They said fine.....Then later I found out not only did they bill me for AOL, but they billed me for many things.

Back in 1998 I decided to give AOL a check, instead of using my Visa. They said, later, that it would be an extra $5 or more for the check. Now that's stupid.

Do I like AOL? No way man..........My DSL is about almost $10 less then AOL and I'm doing fine.

Persecution for Praying In Jesus' Name

a chaplin in the u.s. navy has been denied his right to pray in jesus' name.

Ever since the military was established and the U.S. Constitution was placed, when one joins the military, as chaplin one must verify their religion. This was a christian Navel Chaplin. So when the military has a shortage of chaplins, those who are that chaplin at that post may not, choose, not must substitute as the counselor of that religion not take the place for that religion.

And the uniform that stands for the branch of military may be supported by that chaplin. What the USN is saying is as long as that chaplin prays as in, "Jesus' name," in public, that chaplin will not wear the uniform.

According to the information I receive, and it's basically reliable, it's before the President and has been for a week or so, who has not done anything about this, as of this writings.

And in my opinion this, "Political Correction, " issue has gone too far.
