  It Seems That My Children Are Not Trained

  i just returned home from the kingdom hall.

  i am an elder.. after the meeting all the elders were called to the back room.

  i thought this was an impromptu elders' meeting.

  I just returned home from the Kingdom Hall. I am an elder.

  After the meeting all the elders were called to the Back Room. I thought this was an impromptu elders' meeting. The Presiding Overseer indicated that I was to sit in a chair off to one side, and so I did. They all faced me. I could not for the life of me figure out what was going on.

  The PO said, there are some publishers wondering why your children are not trained.

  I could not believe what he was saying. We have three children, ages 3, 4 and 6. It is true that they do not sit during still meetings holding their Bibles like little robots, but they are not loud or anything like that. They are just fidgety like some small children are. My wife and are have tried to get them to sit still, but they just won't do it. I never thought that it was a problem.

  Now, here I was being counseled for having fidgety children. They told me that because I was an elders I should set the example and that if people noticed it, that it was a problem and that my wife and I should work on it. They seemed to be saying that if my children continued to be fussy during the meetings I could no longer be an elder.

  I could feel anger rising at that point, but I suppressed it and thanked them like a good little witness and walked out.

  My wife cried for a while but she is okay now. The kids are napping.

  I have to go and lay down. I am so mentally exhausted that I don't know what to do.

  "I Would've Never Known God's Name Is Jehovah Unless I Became A JW"

  so says my mom who is seeing that much of the "truth" isn't really all that true but she is stuck on "jehovah" being god's name and how only the witnesses make known his name.

  what would you say in response?

  "Jehovah" is not even the correct pronounciation of the word.

  Besides which, if I were God I wouldn't want my name bandied around all over the place. Also, I would want some respect, like Mr. Jehovah or Your Highness Jehovah.

  And I would insist that the pronounciation be correct. Not just throw some vowels into some consonants and pretend that God will be happy that we at least made the effort. No, if you are going to say it, it should be said correctly or not at all.

  How Do JWs Show They're Hypocrites?

  one thing that always pissed me off was when "faithful wives" used to blame their "unbelieving husbands" for making them celebrate birthdays, exchange xmas gifts, go to "worldly" get togethers, play the lottery, etc.

  The Watchtower organization itself tells its followers that the time is urgent and that the end is near, while they themselves are building, purchasing and making plans for future expansion of its organization both here and in countries around the world.

  They define hypocracy by their actions.

  the received wisdom is that the internet has dramatically damaged the ability of the watchtower society to gain and retain followers.

  there was a very eloquent article to that effect written some time ago by a commentator who attempted to buttress his argument with reference to the postmodern condition and the breakdown of metanarratives in todays secular society, nay, even the come-back for enlightenment notions of truth.

  in the 1970/80s there were major challenges to the watchtowers theology (great crowd in heaven) and chronology (1914) in norway, alberta canada, dublin ireland and in the newyork bethel itself: but the damage caused by those involved in the dissent was limited because knowledge was dispersed merely through personal contact and minimal use of obscure publications that seldom met the eyes of witnesses innocent of the watchtowers doctrinal and chronological vacillations in any case.

  My brother is a District Overseer in one of our fine northern states. He recently came from a meeting of District Overseers and the first thing he said to me upon his return was "It's official. The Society is afraid of the Internet!"

  If you think about it, if what you say is true the Watchtower would be promoting Internet use instead of telling witnesses to stay away from it.

  Many of us choose to "fade" because of the consequences of just abruptly leaving. We love our families and want to keep them in our lives. It is just a choice.

  I was just thinking the other day that after God made all of his creations, he looked and saw that everything was fine. Except one thing. He did not like the fact that Adam was alone and so he created Eve. I wonder if that means anything?

  When Charles Taze Russell was alive he taught that he was the Faithful and Discreet Slave. His wife thought otherwise. In fact, she wrote a book about that and many other things in connection with the religion that Russell believed in.

  Why do people feel they need religion in their life ???

  after growing up a jw all my life, i have no clue why people would want to be part of any religion.. i don't get the mormon stuff.

  i don't understand the catholic faith.

  i really don't understand the muslim beliefs and all their levels and the suicide bombers.

  I believe that some governments actively encourage a belief in religion because it assists them in keeping the peace. Some people will turn away from crime because they feel that God will punish them if they do something wrong. Or, if they do commit a crime some will become remorseful and feel that they have sinned against God. So religion does play a role in maintaining the peace among men in many nations, not just Christian ones.
