  Couple of things eating my mind

  first of all, my active mother told me that a couple of months ago, there was an announcement made from the stage about an update on how to deal with child abuse situations.

  apparently now, jws are suppose to go to the police now.

  anyone else hear about this?

  First of all, my active mother told me that a couple of months ago, there was an announcement made from the stage about an update on how to deal with Child Abuse situations. Apparently now, JWs are suppose to go to the police now. Anyone else hear about this? I'm guessing they made this change due to the preparation for the 5th Estate program.

  Also, my mother keeps on telling me that she's looking for a scriptural reason to leave my father. My father is a compulsive gambler, and my mother is having a difficult time dealing with it. She's waiting for my dad to put the family in a position that would endanger her living conditions. I seriously don't know what to think of this. Honestly, I think that my parents would be better off apart. It seems that they stress each other out.

  Your Favorite Assembly Dramas

  i was thinking back about some of the more memorable dramas at the district assemblies.

  i think my favorite was the one about lot and his wife ... the one where she looked back at the city and turned to a pillar of salt.

  i also liked the one some time back about the wicked witch of the east and wicked witch of the west ... especially the part where the building fell on the wicked witch of the east because she was unfaithful ... and i liked the way it ended when the entire family including her uncle and next door neighbor were able to pioneer together.

  As a kid how did you survive the meetings?

  recently my brother, sister, and i talked for the first time about how we survived the meetings when we were kids.

  i loved hearing their stories.. i had a whole imaginary world i went into.

  once the songs were over and the talk started, i would focus on the speaker to look like i was listening and then zone out.

  As a child, I would zone out. I had a pretty good imagination by the time I was 12.

  As a teenager, I would mentally undress the good looking women.

  I used to chew gum a LOT at the KH. I would make a huge collection of gum foil wrappers in my suit coat pocket. I had tons of them! I was always the one choosing the seats, so I would always choose the same ones. During the prayer, I'd lift up the plastic plug on the end of the chair (one on each side) and my goal was to fill them with the foil balls I had in my suit coat. I succeeded many times :)

  Hello confuzcious! I completely understand how it feels when your mate leaves you, when it seems so damn unfair. I had the fun experience of having my common-law wife leave me almost 2 years ago. I've recovered quite well from it, however I got some help along the way. One thing that I've learned is that you DON'T need a mate to make your life happy.

  I got a lot of support from the following website, and I post advice there sometimes: http://www.sosuave.com They have a discussion board, and you'll get some great advice on women and on yourself from very experienced people. Take care, and try to look upon this as a new beginning.

  just finished fifth estate

  well, that was awesome.

  it had powerful emotional impact, and male witnesses won't be well received at the door.

  i think the molester in the sault will not be very welcome at doors in his community after this.

  Watched the program (last night) with my GF. Of course, I taped it. I believe that this program was incredibly powerful, and anyone who had the slightest doubt about the JWs has had their foundation shaken. My GF got quite emotional during the program. She had every right to.

  Before this program, I was talking to my JW mother about it. She said she was going to watch it and get a kick out of all the lies that would be told on the show. This morning, I asked her what she thought of the show, and she told me "I didn't know what to think of it." The thing is, my mother was abused by her father years before she joined the Troof. Now she's joined this religion that she protests is a "better way of life", however, it's nothing more than a group of life-controlling people. All the shit still exists.

  I believe that the seeds I have been planting in my mother have been slowly growing, and this show has contributed muchly. The show was very well done, covering the facts quite well. I hope there is a follow-up sometime in the near future.

  This thread reminds me of a demonstration that was given at an assembly. One brother was talking to another brother about how he and some other brothers would get together to play musical instruments. He mentioned that they had put a Rock beat to a Kingdom Melody and it sounded really good. The brother he was talking to started giving him shit about doing that, since Rock music is the devil's tool and it would be disrespectful to Jehovah to play songs that were meant for praise to be played in such a fashion.

  Personally, I always thought the piano in that "Kiss The Son" song sounded really heavy and evil. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up removing that song.

  "A Whole New World". Oh wait, wasn't that from the Aladdin movie?

  If anything It would have to be "Hey there all you thirsty ones, come and drink some water something something", hell I can't remember the words.

  Others: Keep your eyes on the prize, that one that goes "Kiss the son lest god be angry and your perish in the way".

  "From House to house" used to piss me off as well. There were a couple others that I hated, but I can't remember them at this moment.

  i remember baking in the hot sun, with the outdoor district conventions.

  the only thing i liked about them was lunch time.

  back in the day, then i could grab the little coupons, ten to a page, each worth 10 cents.

  I actually have an interesting experience from the last convention I attended.

  This was the first summer after a year in the new school I was attending. I was living a double life. I had met some people in my classes who were JWs. The thing is, they didn't know I was one, and I never let on. To them, I was probably the most worldy thing they've ever seen.

  Anyway, the convention was fast approaching, and I was trying to figure out how to deal with running into these people. I was thinking to try and avoid them, but I knew someone would surely see me. So I decided to face it and shock the hell out of them.

  You should have seen the look on each one of their faces - it was priceless! "What are you doing here?" they would each ask. Most of them had double-takes. It was just priceless! I told them that I really didn't want to be there, and it would be much appreciated if they didn't say anything at school about it. They agreed, and never let out a word.

  Also, at another convention the previous year, I remember anxiously waiting for the last talk to end so I could go home, change, then go & visit my worldly girlfriend.

  To all those who brought people into the Troof- If you wouldn't have done it, someone else would have. If you had been assigned to a different car group on the day that you knocked on their door, someone else would have had that bible study. The JW message is usually the same when they all go door to door together. The people that you studied with would have been equally interested if someone else had knocked on their door.
