The Revamped Organization
by Nosferatu inwith the release of the new bible, i can pretty much say that the wt religion is no longer the same religion that i left 17 years ago.
it's bizarre.
they have a different bible, a different song book, a different "youth" book, a different "great teacher" book, and the "live forever" book is gone.

With the release of the new bible, I can pretty much say that the WT religion is no longer the same religion that I left 17 years ago. It's bizarre. They have a different bible, a different song book, a different "youth" book, a different "Great Teacher" book, and the "Live Forever" book is gone. They release things now that seemed so wrong back then, such as making cartoon DVDs and colouring pages. The Watchtower changed the paper they print on, and the books have soft covers now. They no longer hold their convention in our city, the minimum hourly requirements for publishers has been reduced, they no longer charge for the literature, they got rid of the Book Study, shortened the Sunday meeting, opened the doors for the Anointed, and changed who knows how many doctrines.
The only thing that seems to be remotely identical is My Book of Bible Stories, but it's been revamped into color and no longer has that hard yellow cover which brought me so much dread as a child.
The NWT was the last thing that made me feel like the JWs were part of my history, as I still own my NWT to remind me of the horrible religion that I was once part of. That NWT is now "old light", obsolete, and will ultimately become "Apostate Literature".

Two years ago the yearbook related the history of the Estonia branch, first it was under the supervision of the Finland branch, then, in 1999, it became a branch, now under Finland again! http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/302011002?q=estonia&p=par#p298
This is just as confusing as that King of the North bullshit

Board of bitterness
by 1009 ini always was a critical jw, now df and agnost.
but still this religion fascinates me.
in my eyes most jw are very sincere, but dumb sheep.. this board is filled with ex-jw.

I'm not really bitter anymore. I was bitter about 10 years ago when I found this place. Now it's just more of a frustration with my two family members who are in.
I think everyone here is at a different stage in their recovery. Give them a break. Some of them have been very hurt by their families and the organization. Broken limbs don't heal overnight, and scarring takes years to fade even just a little bit.

Going to Kingdom Hall for first time
by InChristAlone insince my family is out of town, and i am alone this weekend, i have decided to attend this once to see these things for myself.
have no fear, i have absolutely no interest in joining.
my goal is simply to better understand how to reach those who are on the inside, and i feel i could better do that by observing it.

I appreciate the attire comment, although I have no interest in shaving my beard. They can live with it.
I had this filthy idea in my mind for quite some time. I would love to start attending the Kingdom Hall, dressed as a bad ass just to get the young women dripping with delight. Sincerely start a bible study, but refuse to dress differently or cut my hair. I'd express my desire to become an unbaptized publisher and see how they handle it.
Unfortunately, I have a life and better things to do.

40 Publishers
by Nosferatu inheh, publishers..... was talking with my mother the other day.
in the 17 years i've been out, my old congregation's publishers have drastically dropped.
when i was going , we were in the high 80s for publishers.

I'm wondering if there really is as many publishers in the world as they say, since so many halls are losing population. Maybe thier membership count is also a Lie.
Maybe every window they wash counts as a baptism

I've been away from the forums for a bit until recently. In the time that I was away, I really didn't do much to keep up with the latest from Jehovah's corporation. So within the time I was away, Sparlock came along and got thrown into the garbage.
I found that little clip to be bizarre. REALLY REALLY bizarre. So I went and found the "Become Jehovah's Friend" clips on Youtube and watchted them. Again, the whole thing is really bizarre to me.
When I was going to the Kingdom Hall in the 1980s and 1990s, we didn't have this kind of stuff from the Watchtower. We just had books such as "My Book of Bible Stories", "Your Youth- Getting The Best Out of It", "Listen to the Great Teacher" and the "Young People Ask" articles in the Awake! that eventually morphed into a full blown book to replace the "Youth" book.
A JW cartoon was unthinkable. The other religions do stuff like that. We were not other religions! We are no part of the world! We must read books! Books! Books! Books!
I remember sitting in the Kingdom Hall with a pen and paper. On my notepad, I drew a space man on the moon. The person sitting beside me took my pen and wrote "Jehovah" on my picture. She ruined my piece of artwork. I took it as being wrong to draw things while in the Kingdom Hall. And now they're using fictional characters drawn on computers to convey a message to children. The magazines and books never had fictional characters. They were real! (Or at least that's how they were portrayed.)
While the core of the JW religion hasn't changed, their skin has changed. One of the new releases at the convention is highly aimed at young children. You can download coloring pages from JW.org. Is this the same religion that I grew up in? The same one that sucked all the fun out of everything? Why are they trying to make it fun now? Are they losing all of their youngest members while the old ones die off?
...and since when is it called "Family Worship"? It was always "Family Study"!
