  TexSham, you went to Garland? I did too for awhile! Mostly I was in White Rock, Dallas where my family still goes. I also went to Jackman, Toledo OHIO; Elmore, Elmore OH; Palatine Cong in Palatine Illinois; Burbank Cong in Burbank Illinois....yeeesh, this is wearing me out. LOL

  Dazed, welcome to the forum. I'm proud of you for having questions and wanting answers! And I understand your mixed feelings about coming to this "A" site. I was confused for awhile too, but this forum has done wonders for me! I hope you'll stick around, you'll learn lots!

  I highly recommend reading Ray Franz book, Crisis of Conscience. It will help answer many questions for you, some you don't even realize you have yet. :-)

  Which did you prefer? Watchtower or Awake?

  when i was a jw, i really couldn't stomach the watchtowers.

  the only articles i would read would be for the family study/watchtower study.

  it seemed so archaic and old-people-ish.. i did read the awake from cover to cover almost every time.

  LOL Bad Seed! I didn't care much for the WT, but I occasionally read articles in the Awake. Just the ones on every day living and suggestions stuff, not any of the heavy duty stuff. Those were "yawners".

  i have finally extricated myself from my jw parents' house.

  i'm living on my own, and on a college campus!

  now i can visit the forum whenever i want to!

  Congrats on your getting out of the family house! Like everyone else has said, concentrate on your education and visit here whenever you can. Those of us who were never allowed to even consider college possibilities are really pulling for those of you who get to go! So study hard, we wanna see that report card too! LOL

  Seeking advice on official DA

  for a very long time, i have held off on making my departure from the jw's official (though, i am as far removed from them as i can be) because of my mother.

  i did not want her to feel she must shun me when there would be no one to replace my presence in her life.

  this was for practical reasons as well as well as emotional.

  Hi Bridgette, I understand your comment about not wanting to be linked in any way to the Borg. I sent my official Kiss Off letter back in '95 and was df'd that same week. I told them I didn't want my name on any member list, etc hence the df'ing. Whatever you decide to do, make it official or not, just make sure you only do what you WANT to do, and understanding the consequences of whatever you choose. Good for you to make sure your mom is taken care of. It still blows my mind thinking about my own parents who have no retirement plan, no savings etc, and struggling. Geeez. Good luck to you in whatever you choose to do hon.
