  What is God doing?

  this is a genuine question... i mean no disrespect to anyone...especially to my heavenly father....but i have this gnawing question in my head that just wont go away...... okay... with that out of the way.... let's take the holly and jessica story that hit the headlines in the uk recently...two innocent kids, murdered and left to decompose in a filthy mud trench....;or worse than that, the story about the two people in the usa who have been busted for running an internet child porn site that features pix of children...babies as young as five months... five months!!!!!!

  !.....being sexually abused..... if i start to think about what these poor kids went through it drives me mad!

  and then if i start to think about what some kids are still going through even as i write..... welli can hardly bear it!.

  Double Edge... Thanks for the comments... One thing sprung to mind as I read them...

  It's just a thought.

  I have no problem with believing in something that is a minority view! I guess in his own time Christ was viewed as the progenitor of a set of believers who were definitely in the minority.. I don't think that 'size' is important in this setting!

  Millions of Germans believed in Adolf Hitler didn't they? But that did not necessarily mean that what he said or did was true did it? ( does that make sense?) Millions of people adhere to the Watchtower Societies' understanding of the Bible... and that definitely doesn't mean that they are right according to many who post on this forum.

  Just because something is believed by many or a few is not really relevant is it? It is whether, in the final analysis, time proves the belief true or false...

  Noah believed that Jehovah had commissioned him to build an ark for the saving of his family... the fact that only seven other people believed him ( or at least went along with 'the old man' ) was not important... and in time it was, in fact, the minority view that proved true....Well that's how I see it.

  One way or the other I guess one of us will finally end up in a canoe with no paddles!!

  i have a question that has puzzled me since i got my large print bible...... in genesis 2:17 it states.... but as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.".

  the footnote reads.... lit.. " dying you will die.

  " okay i understand that... .

  Thanks for the reply....

  Just a couple of points...

  As am still a firm believer in the Bible based view of the state of the dead... i.e. Conscious of nothing.. asleep... awaiting the resurrection etc,etc,etc... I obviously could not agree with your view of a hell where people are conscious....regardless of who did the punishing... but it's certainly an interesting 'take' on the subject.

  What I did find facinating was the idea that Satan tries to fill some void within his own being by using us... and then dumping us as so much garbage when he has wrecked our lives by his machinations... or perhaps more accurately he has facilitated our destruction of our own spiritual side. Hermmmm! Now that is an interesting thought.

  I take your point that the assets are probably included in the figures... but I would need to see 'proof of that' to verify!

  Secondly... the figure quoted, as I understand it was for just one of the WTBTS 'Companies' in the U.S.

  You seem to have missed the point of the question (with respect).

  The whole point of the question was to ascertain the level of income,assets...call it what you will.... when seen in the light of the position of other similar Organisations! As yet no one has addressed that comparison! Fiscal assets are obviously tied to the number of adherents/contributors and so there might obviously be some apparent anomily...i.e. an organisation with 20 million followers might have more income than one with 6 million!!! But using simple mathematic logic it should be easy to work out some sort of per capita figure.

  And last of all...! I certainly don't lose sleep over it! Nor will the truth of the matter affect my contributions one way or the other.....

  Ah well... back to my lowlyl life of suffering!!!!

  I have already mentioned this on another thread but got no answer... perhaps someone here can help...

  It has been reported that the WTBTS 'made' (what ever that means) $931 Million in 2000. What does that mean? Is that Gross Income or Turnover or Profit or what...

  And secondly... if that is so what do we have to compare the figure with? For instance... what did The Latter Day Saints gross in the same period or what did the Catholic Church make? You can't condemn a Society in isolation. Would it not be wiser and fairer to make comparisons with others to see the differences etc.

  For instance I heard on a 'DISCOVERY' documentary recently that the Catholic Church has $Billions in Artworks, money, real esatet and the like, and no doubt other religious organisations have what might seem huge sums of income...

  So just what is the 'balanced' facts of the matter... I weant to see lots of figures not just one taken in isolation and then roundly condemned with no comparison to others made...

  Any ideas on this one?

  I have a question... perhaps it might concentrate our minds a little.... Someone says... I read it somewhere in here... that the WTBTS made 931 million dollars last year... What does that mean?

  (Sorry if this is a little 'off topic' )

  Does it mean that they had that much donated... or that much income generally or that much 'profit' ?

  And just as a point of interest.... How much did the Latter Day Saints or the Catholics gross during the same period... I am told in a 'DISCOVERY' documentary that the Vatican has so many priceless artifacts that most of them haven't been properly catelogued yet! And yet Catholics starve all over the 3rd world don't they? As far as I know it's only the LDS who have a 'social program' to help their members. (Is that true?)

  How can we make a judgement about the WTBTS in isolation? Wouldn't it be fairer to compare them with other religious groups before we start accusing them of anything?

  A billion dollar income might seem excessive in isolation but perhaps not when measured up against the income of other religious groups.

  And finally........I've only been contributing for a little while... but I have to say that you (regular and long-standing0 contributors) are a pretty 'touchy' bunch of folk, when someone raises a point that rankles you... wow you really are vociferous in some of your comments... I know you have every right to express your views... but heck.. you really do get mad a lot of the time!

  Hope that doesn't open the floodgates of similar comments... After all I am only trying to raise a question and make what I feel is a valid (albeit a personal) observation.

  Sorry about this.... I don;t want this all to be me talking back to back with myself... but I had athough just after I pressed the 'send' button on my PC.

  The way I cope with the terrible things that happen to people all over the world is to think that once they are dead they are 'Out of time'

  In other words they no longer exist in this time frame and so are not aware that they are dead!

  That being the case... if death is really just like being asleep' ...they will wake up and what in reality may have been a thousand years since they died or just an day, will be as nothing... just like sometimes you wake from sleep and it feels like you only just nodded off! It's not as if they are awar of the length of time that they are in the grave is it.

  Another thought too occurred to me.... Perhaps God sometimes allows people to die to ''take them of the board' ( like a game of chess?) It's not that they are destroyed forever - it's just that they cease to play a part in 'the game' of life until they are revitilised when the 'new game' is started in the New System that the Bible promises...

  Does that make any sense at all?

  That's what I like about this forum... you can ramble on to yourself and whether it makes sense or not you know that people will have some view on your thoughts....

  CRAZY151 DRINKER.....Ouch ! Ouch! Ouch!

  I'm not worried about my loved ones dying... the ones that have died are dead! Worrying one way or the other would make 'one h'apeth of difference' as they say here in Lancashire! But what I do experience is HURT! and a great sense of LOSS and an almost overwhelming sense of ANGER..

  Yes of course I lay back sometimes and let it all roll over me.... chill out and have a beer... (well a glass of Scotch in my case!) but in my moments of remembering........

  There are places I'll remember all my life though some have changed

  Some forever not for better

  Some have gone and some remain

  All these places have their moments

  With lovers and friends I still can recall

  Some are dead and some are living

  In my life I loved them all.....

  It's when I remember that I miss them - and all the chilling out in the world doesn't take the pain away! It's probably true that God is having fun 'up there' ... but he too knows what it's like to loose someone (albeit temporarily and with the sure hope of seeing him moments later back in heaven!) and I'm pretty sure that he empathizes with us in our dark moments of grief.

  My hope for the future is sure and strong... but in the meantime I still miss the ones who are no longer a living part of my life... That will only stop when we are together again... one way or the other.

  i'm not sure how to put this news gently to the community here, but regarding my post yesterday regarding chantelle.. thankyou for all of your kind messages and warmth displayed on your parts.. chantelle was only 16 when disfellowshipped.

  only 18 years old with her whole life in front of her.

  she took her own life this morning at 0400hrs.. i am so sorry not to have been in a better position to get your letters to her in time.. take care all of you & kindest regards.
