I haven't been on here in quite a while so let me refresh your memories. I have a son who is in the Army Reserves, he went to basic last summer but he's a senior in high school and has to do his individual training so he's not in Iraq with his unit. I haven't heard anything from my family since last July when I told them what he was doing. So my phone rang this morning and it was my sister who lives with my parents. She said, "Can I ask you just one question?" Sure. "Where is Sean?" I said, "He's in school" Where? "High school, in Fort Ann." She said, "So he's not over there?" Me, "No, he hasn't graduated highschool or finished his training so he can't go anywhere" Her, " Oh good, we were worried." Me, "Well you could have asked me that when the war started, actually if you hadn't stopped talking to me you would have known all along and nobody would have been worried." Her, "Well OK, We love you, you know." Me, "Yeah, unhuh. Bye." I suppose I was rude but I feel like they don't have the right to worry about him when they don't even talk to him or remember what grade he is in. He's mine and he doesn't need their kind of love. Neither do I. els

My mother had a stroke
by acsot inhaven't been on the forum much lately, been running back and forth to the hospital.
she's getting better now and will probably be able to regain use of her arm and leg, but it's been exhausting and nerve-wracking.
i was fortunately there when it happened so got her to the hospital right away.. anybody have experience with this type of thing?

acsot, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you are coping OK. Strokes are frightening because you don't know what the long-term effects are going to be. I hope that your mom has a full recovery. My mother-in-law had a series of mini strokes a few years ago. She recovered pretty well physically but it really affected her emotions. It has been hard on Dad because she doesn't want him to be away from her at all. She gets very disturbed if he's gone for more than an hour at a time. She gets weepy and then very angry if we try to distract her or tell her it's OK. I don't mean to scare you, with Mom it's hard to tell how much if the effect of the strokes and how much is because of her age, she'll be 91 this summer. I just think you should be aware that depression and emotional problems sometimes follow a stroke and they can be harder to deal with than the physical problems. Try to take care of yourself and line up the help you need. I'll be thinking of you. els

shunners in hospital
by ChrisVance inwhat noidea is going thru got me to thinking what i'd do if one of my family members who shuns me, that's most of them, were really sick and in the hospital.
several years ago my daughter was really sick and in the hospital.
i didn't go see her and i've often wondered whether i did the right thing.

For years now my family has been kind of ignoring me unless I take the initiative and get together with them. But everytime one of my parents is sick then they want me around, partly because I have a flexible work schedule and can provide rides to doctors, etc. It's really hard though because it's like they expect me to be able to turn my feelings on and off depending on whether they need me. Now I am being shunned and I don't know if they will call if something is wrong. It hurts to know that they might not but maybe it's better if they don't. els

Bizarre Dream
by els ini had the strangest dream last night.
there was a wedding and some of my family was at it.
afterward we were outside and there was a ufo in the night sky, a long skinny one like the one in the news a few weeks ago.

Mr. Moe, I guess I was on the mark in how I interpreted my tiger. Maybe controlling it was a good thing, although deciding to let it loose could be good too.
I wonder if reading up on the meanings of things in your dreams could influence how you dream. If you know that a certain thing symbolizes a feeling or a part of your life, would your brain start to use symbolism more. I have read that if you have a recurring dream, that if you think about the outcome of that dream before you go to sleep, you can change it. And in changing the outcome of the dream you can change things in your life. Interesting idea anyway. els -

I don't know about the chain restaurants but where I am most places serve Pepsi. This is because The servicing dept. for Coke used to be based in Albany which is about 45 minutes away. If your soda machine broke down or you needed something you often didn't get any help till the next day. So most places went with Pepsi cause you could get fast service from them. Now the place where I work still has Pepsi cause the head of the sales gets my boss the most freebies; merchadise, golf games, tickets to events and local attractions, you name it. els

Swan, I think the tiger represented my feelings about the truth, my anger I guess. I never would talk about it much because it just didn't do any good. But in a family group situation the subject of my inactivity was bound to come up, probably in the form of stories about the good times we had and what a good witness I was. I thought I could handle it but my dream warned me that I couldn't, that I would have to get ahold of my feelings and stuff them back in. Maybe I should have gone to that party and let the tiger loose. els

I remember a dream I had guite a few years ago. I've been inactive a long time but have managed to have a relationship with my family. There was going to be a family get together and I was scared about going because I felt like I might get ganged up on. This is the dream I had. I was going to the party but I had a tiger with me, on a leash. Ken kept asking me if I was sure I wanted to go. I told him it was fine, that I could control the tiger. So we went and I tied up the tiger to a tree near the picnic tables. So it was OK for a while, but then the tiger started snarling and trying to get loose. The whole time no one was saying anything about the tiger. So finally it got loose and was running around and I had to catch it and stuff it in my car and leave. After this dream I decided I wasn't going to the party. els

Coke classic definately. No diet, no vanilla, no lemon. But you're killing me with this thread cause I'm trying the Atkins diet and I haven't had any Coke for 2 days. I want one soooo bad. els
