ejm,
No....he made the statement during his 2000 congressional testimony related to trying to pass a law weakening the Americans with Disabilties Act (ADA). He thought he should get a "warning" that a complaint was coming....the person went to his place of business and found it inaccessible....3 months later they send a request that he fix the problems and comply with the ADA....when there was no response...they filed a complaint 6 months later. I think nearly a year is time enough to fix the problem or at least respond to someone. That is to say nothing of the fact that the law had been in place for 10 YEARS prior to the complaint and they had not complied.
Do you notice the problem...the ADA has now been a FEDERAL LAW for nearly 15 years...there is still very little compliance as businesses take a "wait and see" attitude...they hold off on making changes until someone complains....and then when we complain...they whine that we should have warned them that we were going to complain. LOL
There are no "Wheelchair Police" who enforce this law...disabled people like me have to file complaints and lawsuits when we see a violation and thats fine...if we want the rights then we must "stand up" so to speak and fight for them.

My mom was just rushed to the Hospital....
by rwagoner in.
and you know how i know...... not because my dad called me or anthing like that..... thanks to years of working in law enforcement/public safety i'm pretty nosey and have a "scanner" in my house that monitors police, fire and ambulance calls.. just heard the ambulance go to my parents house because my mother wasn't breathing properly..... she has renal failure and must go to kidney dialysis 3 times a week.
sometimes for no reason her body simply stops processing fluids and she "fills up" and basically begins to drown from the inside.. i can only assume that this is the case tonight....of course nowdays hospitals wont tell you anything without the patients permission...... keep her in your thoughts....she may shun me but i can't help but worry about her.....

My heartfelt thanks again to everyone for your thoughts and prayers....it means a great deal to me that at least one of my "families" cares so much.
I was able to contact a friend at the hospital and learned that my mom seems to be out of danger at this point. This is sort of a reoccuring problem as I mentioned. She fills up with excess fluid and basically begins to drown...she was in respiratory arrest when the ambulance arrived but they got her to the emergency room and performed an emergency dialysis to remove the fluid. She was resting comfortably this morning when I spoke to my friend.
I decided not to visit as she has enough going on atthe moment without the added stress of dealing with her obnoxious aposto-son. I did send flowers however and a brief note....offering help...reminding them that DA'd relatives CAN be contacted during "Family Emergencies" and reminding them that their only son loves them and remains, as always eager to hear from them.
I'm putting together a letter...sort of a follow up if you will for once she is sent home. I'm using the example I saw here recently about buying a new car. They would never buy a new car based solely on the word of the saleman...they would think that was idiotic. They research the car online...read consumer reports magazine...look for the bad infomation as well as the good so they can make an informed decision. That is all that I have ever asked them to do with the dubs. If after at least listening to both side, they still want to remain in...so be it...of course we all know that they won't agree to it. LOL But it is worth a try right.....

So How Does Your "Never Been A J Dub" Partner Cope With All Of This?

she reckons it's all about control and power.

My DW is very supportive but thinks that I'm a little obsessed. She feels that since I've been out for so long (15+ years) I shouldn't still be so worried about what they do.
It is hard to explain it to her...that since my family is still in and shunning me...that it still effects me in some way. I feel the need to keep trying to find a way to free them....sort of like the psycological effect of a soldier leaving a buddy behind in battle. There is that constant nagging that you failed them and should have found a way to save them.
She also finds it hard to grasp that I could ever have believed their BS.....hates the shunning....would NEVER have put up with the wifely submission rules (LOL)....
She stands with me and supports me at every turn....I find her truly amazing. *stops before the real sap rears its ugly head*

He is carrying out her wishes because in this country doctors and hospitals will prolong your dying as long as po$$ible. It's an act of love.
An act of love ? Possibly but one base on misinformation and stereotype by both parties that living with a disability is a fate worse than death.
I take it you believe a person is making the wrong choice if they choose not to live anymore under the character's circumstances?
I do...most definitely. The person is not terminally ill...they are feeling grief over the loss of their former life, in their eyes. This is a very normal feeling following becoming disabled later in life. They have never been disabled...in fact they may never have known, closely, anyone with a disability so all they know is the stereotype of society that being disabled is somehow being less than a whole person.
Once a person has time to grieve and adjust there is a whole world of possibilities and resources available to them. Everything from continueing their education to mountain climbing or bungee jumping depending on the level of disability. Some very severely disabled folks can do increadible things, Stephen Hawking is one example, Franklin Roosevelt is another..
As I mentioned before, if I were terminally ill with no hope of treatment then I would not want to prolong the inevitable. I also respect someone's right to chose to end their life, even though I don't personally agree. However just like anything else....the decision should be based on facts and not fear or stereotypes and should take place after the person has the opportunity to work through the grieving process if it is related to a recent disability.

1 John 4:1
by mjl inwent to the meeting this morning and stayed for the talk.
the speaker used a text that i thought was very ironic, 1 john 4:1 which reads " beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they origanate with god, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.
" i found this ironic becuase we were trained not to test anything in the publications and never question what we hear from the platform.

Somebody recently used the example of buying a new car....
You wouldn't just talk to the salesman and trust what he said....or the factory rep for the car manufacturer...
You'd read "Consumer Reports" and research online for recalls and check "carfax" to see if that car was a junker....
Why then would anyone blindly accept just one side of the story from a printing corporation who claims to be God's voice on earth and dishes out religious advise....just saying it even sounds comical.
I mean I know I believed it for about 20 years but even I smartened up eventually LOL

Blondie,
Believe me I've tried to go over those examples with them many times...even told them to go look it up on the Official WT site themselves but I think they believe that my Aposto vibes will reroute their computers to some awful aposto site like this one....thanks though
CW,
I'm obnoxious so unless they have told the hospital not to let me in, I'll make contact somehow...there was a suggestion of flowers earlier....or maybe I will go visit and hide her nurse buzzer and read her a few chapters of CoC while she's stuck there in bed ! LOL I shouldn't run into many dubs...the last time she was in the hospital for 3 or 4 day and not 1 showed up to check on her.
under74,
Thanks...

Women and children as young as 11 held at Abu Ghraib
by Simon indo you think it's acceptable for the us to imprison children as young as 11 years old ?!?!.
does the behaviour of drunken us soldiers assaulting a 17 year old girl make them undisciplined yobs?.
this comment is particularly disturbing imo and should result in prosecution.. in her interview, she said maj gen walter wodjakowski, then the second most senior army general in iraq, told her in the summer of 2003 not to release more prisoners, even if they were innocent.

These are likely the same people who rushed to the polls to re-elect Bush. They probably still have Bush bumper stickers on their cars. Thank goodness that at least half the country doesn't support this insane presidential admin and its very bad war and diplomatic policy.
Wow ! Checked my palm pilot back in November, yep it was right there..."9am - Rush to the Polls to Re-Elect the President" and have a box full of Bush stickers to replace the ones on the car when they get ratty...
