a couple of days ago there was a fuenral at the hall for a gentleman who was the grandfather of my former best jw friend.
this was a kind old man, who i had enjoyed talking to; a real sweet guy.. yet, when it came time for the funeral talk, i couldn't bring myself to go.
everyone (including this old gentleman) had abandoned me (besides my family) when i had left the jws (not df'd).
Hi Ash,
My wife and I have discussed JW funerals and have come to the same conclusion.
While one may have loved the person who has died HE/SHE won't even know you're there, obviously, because they're dead. Persons who WILL know you're there, however, are the same old thought police (elders!). The talk would be 90% JW garbage and about 10% about what a wonderful person it is being laid to rest. Even relatives of the deceased are likely to look down their noses at you.
Ash, we have to face facts - cold that they are. We have nothing in common with JWs now and, callous as it may seem (it isn't being callous, by the way), that includes baptisms, memorials, conventions, assemblies, meetings and funerals. This is one thing I do agree with Jesus on: "Let the dead bury their dead." JWs are dead from the neck up!
Ash, it's right to feel sad and to grieve about someone you loved or thought highly of. But those feelings can be expressed far better and without any hypocrisy by staying at home.
Sincerely,
Dansk

i know that many of you gave me the advice to wait until i'm done with school, but what can i say, i'm stubborn .
please share your pre-pregnancy and pregnancy tips that either made things smoother or things you wish you has done to make things easier.
i also want opinions on such things as epidurals, circumcision, nutrition, breast-feeding, money saving tips, etc.
Hi Stinky,
Claire's given birth to four children and I attended all but one. Claire (Physio) is a professional person and we had our first child while she was a student. The point is, some could say "Leave off having children till after college". That's good advice - but then, after college, you'll get "Leave off having children till you get your career." Fine, that's good advice - but then you'll get "Leave off having children till you've been promoted."
In other words, if you and hubby feel the time is right now, then go for it!
Regarding circumcision, it's a load of old tosh to say ALL women are put off at the sight of a fully intact willy! I'm still intact, had no complaints (Physio thinks she owns it as much as me ) and I'm very clean with it. Farkel is absolutely right.
Love and best wishes,
Dansk - of the fully intact, unembarrassing and clean class!

organisation/religion
Yeah, sorry Ozzie - but it was intended. You see, I'm suspicious of the whole 'Christian' caboodle these days - though I respect the likes of Little Toe. If he's happy, fine!
BTW Little Toe, when you're next Manchester way please let me know. You're welcome to come round.

ymrah has actually started a good thread, because I'm often perplexed as to why an exJW would become a 'Born Again' in the first place. I am amazed that so many do. Is it because when one leaves the Borg one feels the need to be some kind of Christian?
I've found that some BAs can be as heavy as JWs. When I first came out of the Borg I contacted 'Reachout Trust', which has a website. It was very helpful, but I found out my telephone number had been bandied about and I was then bombarded by BAs telling me I was being drawn to Christ. It got so bad I had to ask for the calls to cease. I guess the callers meant well, but one doesn't need to receive such heaviness - at least I didn't - at such a traumatic time. And leaving the Borg CAN be traumatic!!
I believe BAs believe in a literal hell fire (?). If that's the case, you can keep it. Many of the people themselves are really nice and friendly, but I believe there's a real danger of coming out of the frying pan into the fire, so to speak. One needs to chill out for at least six months after leaving the Borg, to be able to take stock of matters. Then, if being a BA is for you, fine! Personally, I don't trust the Bible and, therefore, by implication I don't trust any organisation/religion that purports to abide by it.

a question: how does an elder move ahead?
what i mean is my father has been an elder for over 20 years and as far as i know he has never been offered any high profile jobs, co etc, never gotten to give the big talks at assemblies, etc, i was just wondering is there some type of politics that goes along with it?
how does an elder move ahead?
He leaves!

i've just been visiting an elderly client on business, in her home.
as i was being shown to the door, i was stopped dead in my tracks by the sight of the wbts' book, "is there a creator who cares for you" sitting, innocently, on a table!
well, you can imagine the uncontainable sadistic glee that was spinning through my head!
I am surprised, Dansk, that you didn't get a bit closer to guessing the answer, knowing my background, and all!
Oh, it wasn't than, Span! It was the fact that I didn't want anyone else to know! One can reveal a little too much about oneself here! Depends how one feels about the Borg or relatives knowing.
