Something to do with Besty's hobby, whatever it is, should always go down well. In the past I've been bought good, thick shirts and wooly jumpers for winter, CDs, DVDs, books, an electric shaver, boxes of chocolates - yes boxes of chocolates (I love the stuff) - Irish whisky (I don't normally drink, but that stuff is lovely) and I've thoroughly appreciated them all.

Claire doesn't need any more jewellery. Oh, don't get me wrong, it's not diamonds but Swarovski crystal! She has plenty of ear-rings, necklaces and bracelets. She also has plenty of Swarovski ornaments.
I thought about gift vouchers - really did - but decided to get some things on-line (as I'm too weak to shop just yet). I've parcelled them up where she can see them and she hasn't a clue as to what they are. Claire asks: "Can I wear them?" or "Can I eat them?" To which I respond "You'll wear them on your head if you don't shut up!" It's lovely knowing she can't wait to rip the wrapping off.
Books? Claire's got plenty and is getting through them all - at night before we drop off to sleep. She likes thrillers and romantic novels.
Please keep the ideas coming in. If you're not helping me you are undoubtedly giving ideas to others reading this thread.

Well, I'd like to save to get away AND get her a pressie. In fact, I've got her two pressies - but it's getting harder every year to know what to purchase. Any ideas? (N.B. vacuum cleaners, washing machines and microwaves, etc., are OUT because everyone benefits from them. I'm talking about personal presents)
Oh, and no "Black stockings and suspenders", etc.

is it just me, or has everyone noticed many more lurkers and newbies posting now?
i have been reading way too much lately, in light of the nbc broadcast, and it seems as if each time i read a new thread, there's someone posting their first post, or third.
right offhand, i remember leaving-jws, rmcgill_leader, jwdonotcall, confused and lost, xfdwg97, and another post i just read from mom--something or other.
While we can't generalise as to age, I've always thought the younger generation of JWs will not tolerate anti-internet propaganda coming from the Borg. Many are being educated. Many look to science. Watchtower's days are really numbered.

she's gone back into the hospital again, complaining of her symptoms worsening (they said get in if that happens) so a long couple of days turns into what is going to be a nightmare week, hopefully she gets out tomorrow.
i'm alright but things are difficult without real support.
megans mum is a clown, megans stupid brother tried messing with meg's mums head by asking if she was sure if i didnt push megan off the ladders (good job he lives in ireland) - then she has the cheek to tell me today he asked after megan, who hates him for the abuse she suffered (sexual unfortunately) when she was just 12 and he was 18. my mum and stepdad are being as helpful as they can, but when your alone at night with a crying baby and your stressed out about everything from moving, megans health, your own and financial situation it does make you realise just what the wife/mum has to manage.
Good News IS...Megan is feeling 80% better today and despite Specialists, Surgeons and all sorts of people seeing a fractured skull on Tuesday, Wednesday the believed it had gone and today as said, she is feeling much better.

seems a 54 year old british school teacher who is teaching grammer school classes in the sudan has committed a despicable act by blastpheming and showing no respect for the prophet!
can you believe it; she actually allowed the children in her class to name a teddy bear being used in a class project muhammad!!
the sudanise government, carrying out its god given duty is putting her on trial.

Many muslims in this country (UK) have come out in support of the woman. Not for naming the teddy Mohammed, of course, but for the fact that she didn't realise the gravity of what she had done. They are openly condemning the woman's punishment and are seriously considering sending a Muslim delegation over to try and get her released.
So many of these stories stir up anger and hatred of Muslims when the majority are completely innocent. As Hilary pointed out, the Christian religion doesn't exactly have a pristine record. Sudan is a still a backward nation but one cannot condemn all muslims on what it does no more than we can condemn all Christians because of "Christian" atrocities in Africa and some of the baltic states.
What I'd like to know is how a boy can be named Mohammed and not cause offence? One would have thought that in the Muslim countries such a name would be too sacred to use for anyone else.
