  They came back and went away perplexed!

  some of you may remember my post about sending a couple of jw's away to research 1914 (they are calling on me and do not know that i am a fade-away).

  they sort of did do some research (from the wts publications, even after i specifically asked that they look into publications outside theirs).

  they came back and we did have a discussion.

  Hi

  Some of you may remember my post about sending a couple of JW's away to research 1914 (they are calling on me and do not know that I am a fade-away). They sort of did do some research (from the WTS publications, even after I specifically asked that they look into publications outside theirs).

  They came back and we did have a discussion. The 1914 question turned into a 607 question. Thanks to a post by Farkel about how easy the 607 date is sorted I had a really great visit by them. They had the "Thy Kingdom Come" and "All Scripture is Inspired" books and of course the bible, (which I had to ask that they get out). The Kingdom Come book says in the preface, that the assention of Nebuchadnezzer was 605 (however, a page or two over it says that the start of Neb's reign was 604, of course I pointed out the contridiction to them). I then directed them to 2Kings 25 8-10 where it states that Jerusalem fell in the 19th year of Neb's regin = 586/587 BCE, not 607. I said that the explanations about neo-Bablylonian tablets etc still did not change the fact that their books and the bible and every other historian points to 586/587 being the year that Jerusalem fell, and therefore making their date of 1914 (a very pivital date in their religion - as confirmed by them several times) as wrong.

  Well, then I got the whole A to A sermon. I let them finish, and then said again that really the point of my enquiry was that their important date of 1914 could not be correct as just pointed out using their books and the bible.

  They were perpexed to say the least, and they promised to go away and "research" more and come back. They are both very nice people, I do not hope to "slam dunk" them, just to get them thinking and looking into the WTS. I look forward to their return.

  And Farkel, thanks, I could not have done it without you. Your post was great, easy to use and very effective.

  Yup (yip), but as I recall, most the notorious criminals were sent to Aussie from the colonies, and the really nice, incredibly bright ones sent to NZ!

  Just goes to show that the Kiwis are smart cookies, they exchange their coins for Aussie coins and make about 10% profit in the process! That's bright!

  Sent them away to research 1914!

  hi all, i have not posted for some time, to bring you up to date, i recently moved, the local jw's do not know me.

  they do not know i am a fade-away.. as luck would have it, a couple of weeks ago two 50-somthing jw's, husband and wife, knocked on our door while doing normal house to house work.

  i got the standard presentation, with a strong emphasis on 1914 and the last days.

  So after a very long wait they came back and what did they say/do?

  They brought me the "let you kingdom come" book and the ... wait for it.... "all scripture is inspired of God Book" when I saw this I almost threw up.. I absolutely hated studying this at the service meeting.

  So, this was their independent, secular books that they had to prove the date of 607 is true. They are really nice people and true Dubs, I truely feel sorry for them. They even marked the pages that I should look at, that is right, they left me the books to read and look at. The pages that they marked are:

  Let you kingdom come: page 126/127 and appendix to chapter 14, pages 186 and 187.

  All scripture is inspired by God beneficial: pages 280/281 and 284/285.

  I have yet to read them (again!) but if any of you have counter aurguments please let me know.

  why did you hate it?

  for me, it was probably that damn pink great teacher book.

  I don't know if I really hate it but the revelation book, I remember we were studying it AGAIN in book study when there was bit that tried to explain a scripture, something about sun and moon and stars or celestial things and the revelation book attributed satellites and space junk to that scripture!

  I remember thinking "you have got to be kidding"! It was from then I started to question things, so I don't know if I really hate it, it "set me free" so to speak! But I sure did hate book study and meetings and field service.

  There's a good chance I will never have children

  you know, i have the lingering suspicion i will never have children.

  that's right, no little bradley's or bradettes to worry about.

  here's my logic: i left the dub's two years ago (almost) and am still a couple years away from a degree.

  Logan, by not to have kids would be denying the rest of the world of a mini you, the joy the frustration the fun, can you do that to us!

  It is something I too am tyring to deal with too, and I am way older than you (still within child bearing years though) the WT robbed me of having a family in my 20s, you know, "putting the important things first - the kingdom" - "there will be plenty of time in the new system to have families and alike" well that just is not the case. The thought of now having sleepless nights and later ratty teenagers is not something I relish! But I have a new husband (not JW, somewhat agnostic really) and the thought of having a child with him is not a bad feeling.

  Things work themselves out by themselves sometimes, maybe we just cope with what life deals us.

  Joe, yes by her saying that she would look elsehwere for the turth, I did feel that she would in fact do some research. I do have a feeling that her hubby will vito it all when she starts to discover the real truth. She will either return with loads of WT explaination on the 607 date, (which I think I am ready for) or they will simply not return at all and we will become a "do not call".

  He did say that if something is 99% right then that was good enough for him. I said that might be OK but when a fundamental belief is so obviously at the very best doubtful then surley they have to question the rest of it, he did not have a reply.

  I will continue to keep you updated. But if any of you have had this debate please feel free to send me information to help.

  BB, yip, it was great. I stood there and knew exactly what they were going to say next. I thought, my god, I used to do this, I used to rabbitt off exactly the same things, I actually felt really sorry for them, they were just like little WT clones, with all the cliches and lines, the reasoning book came out (not the bible) and she (she is quite nice and uses reason) was clearly stumbling over trying to explain the 1914 thing, poor thing, I really felt for her.

  I asked her "what will you do if you find out that the 607 and 1914 thing is historically speaking wrong" she said that if they were wrong she would search elsewhere for the true religion.

  Well we will see if in fact they come back.

  As luck would have it, a couple of weeks ago two 50-somthing JW's, husband and wife, knocked on our door while doing normal house to house work. I got the standard presentation, with a strong emphasis on 1914 and the last days. The left me with "jehovahs Witnesses, Who are they? What do they believe?

  They returned this morning, I told them I had read it and that 1914 seemed to come up a lot. So I did some research on the internet and found out how they arrived at 1914 (you know the whole 607BCE thing). They were very happy about this but added that using the internet to research JW's could let me to getting a lot of "miss information".

  I told them that being a history buff I did not remember 607 as being the year that Jerusalem fell and that I am sure that it was 530 something and that I did not believe that their calculation for arriving at 1914 was correct. He (an annoying type of a person, who easily gets agitated) said that their "organisation" had done a lot of deep research for them and that he was sure that they had it right. I said that maybe they might like to look into history books for themselves and come back to me with a history book that categorically states that Jeruselem fell in 607, they agreed and told me they would return.

  I can't wait!
