what is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?
we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.
for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.
a District overseer (slave master), told the sisters in the audience with unbelieving husbands that God would reward them with new husbands in the new system.
Boy.....
I bet that went over well to those sisters who in trying to "win their husbands over" talked them into coming that day.

what is the idea behind the sisters wearing a head covering when they lead a group for field service?
is there something written in the bible new world translation about this?
women should have Long hair, most women will say short hair on another woman is cute well not to us guy's.
Uhhhh........hope you're speaking for yourself.......forgive me for saying this but I wholeheartedly don't agree with the "cave man" mentality of that statement.

i can remember numerous talks and study articles about how the preaching work would get more and more intense as we near the end.. one so called prophetic illustration that stands out in my mind was when joshua and his men marched around the city each day and then just before the city fell they marched seven times signifying a quickening of the preaching work.. it seems starkingly obvious that the preaching,is in decline amonst jw's,the jw's are seen less and less often in my neighbourhood,it is very rare to see them out street witnesing around the town centres and railway stations,the average jw spends far less time preaching than a decade ago.. it seems like their chief brag is definately on the wain,in favour of other recruitment methods.

My wife pulled that one on me. At the time I was basically fliping burgers for a living. If I had listened to that crap........
i wonder how many times an elder approached you before the meeting to say, "after the meeting, we would like to talk to you about something".
you know that feeling-----remember???
the entire meeting you tried not to think about whatever it was they needed to talk to you about.
when i was maybe twelve...i sat through the whole meeting in a daze, worrying myself sick! as it turned out they just wanted to interrogate me about my parent's pending divorce
INterrogating a kid to get the goods on his parents pending divorce.....

i've always wondered why it was ok for jesus to wait until he was 29 to get baptized in symbol of his dedication while jw's are pressured at such an early age.
do you suppose joseph was always on his case...jesus get up its time to go to the temple.....why didn't you comment today?.......when are you going stop hanging out in gallilee with all your friends and get baptized?.
is this just another control aspect of the wtbts, handcuff you to the org while your young and make it almost impossible to leave later when you mature?

I'd say, for myself, that they'd most definetely have to be self-sufficient. I've seen to many JW kids use "studying" or the JW mantra "taking in knowledge that leads to everlasting life" as crutches for not displaying any initiative or ambition to do things with the aim of taking care for themselves. I successfully thwarted any attempts by my wife to pressure our children into baptism before they were of age and independent and as they grew older, they eventually saw through the WT smokescreen. I had no intention of taking care of them forever while they "pioneer" for the WTS.
I have a neice who blurted the "knowledge leading to everlasting life" programmed response to me when I asked her about going to school. Right away, I recognized it as one of their conversation stoppers when they are asked about doing anything outside of WT guidelines. How surprised she and her parents were when I responded that on the slim chance that one day she'll have to support herself that I hope she's equipped with more than WT interpretive biblical slogans to offer a potential employer.

Hell....I even know faithful JWs who aren't df'd who shun each other. My mil and her sister has made it a point not to speak to each other for years.
as my name suggests, i'm from nyc.
i've lived in every borough of new york and spent time at most of the local congregations until i finally decided that it was all for nothing (my recent posts on this forum explain why).
during this time, i noticed an interesting pattern - the jws only preach in poor to middle class neighborhoods.

You must really love that man to endure sitting there listening to that nonsense whenever they get worked up.
I never ask my wife anything WT related....she's well aware of how I feel about the Soceity. And when she's in one of her JW groups and try to put me on the spot it only takes a few well placed questions for them to give me that "deer in the headlights" look and change the subject.
i looked at our little local paper today and saw a young man had died.
he was the 20 year old son of jw's that used to be very dear friends.
i noticed that the funeral is to be held at the local funeral home and not at the kingdom hall.
a brother’s conscience might allow him to give a Bible talk at the funeral home or graveside, to give a witness to unbelievers and to comfort the relatives.
Yes....first and foremost is the opportunity to hijack the ceremony of the deceased and use it as a commercial for the WT God in "giving a witness". Everything else, even giving comfort to the bereaved comes secondary.

I can remember a brother who spent all night shampooing the carpet at the KH for the Memorial only to be counseled by an elder that his T-shirt had a logo on it and he should have turned it inside out.
Not only the love I remember, but also the type of "love" I see practiced currently amongst all the JWs in my family.
