Antony Moris III and GB
by Gorbatchov inyesterday my wife and i watched the antony morris iii show on tv.jw.org.
our shared opinion was: what a hypocrisy loud and clear available.
antony speaking with a republican accent.. plummers, nurses and carpenters are the standard.. brumley selling his soul to who?

This is how it was for me with my parents, except I never vilified higher education. When people asked me about it, all I would say is that its not for everyone. Each person has to decide for themselves, not the elders, not the GB. And there are definitely valid concerns. It is a personal decision.sir82
It's pretty much par for the course for JWs.
At our congregation, there is a college-educated young guy whose unbelieving father paid 100% for his college education. This guy was raised in the "truth" by his believing mother.
At every, I meanĀ every, meeting where education is discussed, his is the first hand up, and he condemns higher education expansively, verbosely, and vehemently.
Meanwhile, he continues to enjoy the 6-figure income his college education allows.I would neither recommend or discourage someone from a university degree, but I would tell them that I'm glad that I was able to do so, given my circumstances.

The Faithful Slave - An Obvious Question I Haven't Heard Asked
by berrygerry insince the big 7 have appropriated this "blessed" title for themselves, and disavowed the existence of this slave prior to 1919, an obvious question comes up.. was it not the apostate maria russell that proffered that ctr was "the slave," and was the coiner of the term "the faithful slave"?.
if the slave did not come into existence until 1919, then how was it possible that prior to 1919 that anyone knew that it existed, or would have been able to foretell that it would come into existence?.
was maria a prophetic apostate?.

"The governing body at that time..."
by OneEyedJoe inso i'm listening to the regional manager give his mid week talk and he's going over acts 15 where they're dealing with the issues that arrose from the jewish christians wanting the gentile christians to adhear too the mosaic law, so some of the apostles gathered to hash it out.
it struck me, though, that he kept using the phrase "the governing body at that time" to describe the apostles and older men who decided on the matter.
once he even slipped up and said apostles, then corrected it to the gb.. i'm thinking that they've actually gone so far as to put it in his outline to make sure its beaten into the r/f that the gb's power is somehow based in scripture.

New requirement to become an Elder or Ministerial Servant!
by hardtobeme init has been a few months since i hear this from an elder.
he said that the c/o told them this new requirement.. "men that wanna be an elder or ministerial servant has to go out to field service on sundays.
if there is an elder or ministerial servant that is not going out to field service on sunday can lose the priviledge".

Although this was never a written in my congregation, as a MS I was expected to take the group out in service on a scheduled rotation. All other elders and servants were in the rotation. We were also told that in addition to the schedule, we had to set the example in being exemplary in field service by supporting Sunday field service. It was inferred that we were supposed to support the arrangement a couple of times each month, even if only meeting for field service and stopping by a gas station on the way home to get a few minutes with the family. It seemed like it was more for show. On the few times that I did support it, everyone already had their groups of two or gas station they wanted to stop by with their family.

does God read our minds, or should we pray out loud?
by sowhatnow ini always wondered, can god read our thoughts?
if he can then why cant satan?.
i was told by my mother that god can read our minds, but satan cant satan can only hear our words and see our motives and what we do,.

You're making a whole lot of presuppositions there.
Here's a question that got me well on the road to waking up and finding it was all a big lie: How does prayer actually work? (that means the mechanism, not any perceived "results")
It's a simple question, but by being totally honest about it you will find it eye opening.
I've often wondered this very thing. I've been doing a lot of thinking about this from a scientific standpoint. From a scientific standpoint, a prayer is simply a thought, one that we have directed to what we perceive to be God. If prayer is simply a thought, this can be measured somewhat by the instruments scientists have to measure such. However, scientists have yet to figure out how to intercept a thought to know its contents. We have identified certain parts of the brain that react to certain stimuli and emotions, but we can't decode thoughts. This does not mean that it is impossible though. Just like all the other discoveries in the scientific communtity that we believed were impossible only a few years ago, we are learning as human race to do incredible things. The human genome project is one of those things.
I believe that it is possible to read human thoughts, but we just haven't learned how to yet. We don't yet have the intruments or the knowledge on how to do so. But I believe we will figure this out someday (or at least people much smarter than me will ). This leads to the conclusion that if humans can figure out how to read thoughts, then God (assuming he/she/it exists) can read thoughts since he is our maker and aware of our make-up. This also would follow that Satan (under the same assumption that he/she/it exists) has much more familiarity with our human makeup than we do since he has observed us since our creation. It would be reasonable to conclude that Satan has learned how to read human thoughts as well, since it is purely a neurological metric of electrical pulses among the neurons in our brain.
If God doesn't exist, we can probably safely say, someone in the future will be able to hear our prayers (or thoughts), once we, as humans, figure out how to decipher this neurological process.

As an update, last night something really went off in his head. This is more then JWs, there's something really wrong with him. I called a mental health place this morning and we are going to the emergency room to get him evaluated.
Considering your last post, I hope things are going as well as can be for you and your kids. It sounds like you are dealing with an incredibly difficult, mentally-abusive situtation compounded by your husband's own mental instabilities. Dealing with someone in this state can be tough because you never know what they are capable of or what they are even thinking. Please be on guard for the safety of you and your kids.
Keep us updated, and we'll try to offer as much words of encouragement and support as we can. Helping each other through our difficult times encourages all of us because we see that we can get the commraderie, love, and support that we need outside of the Watchtower even though we were told we couldn't.
